OT - Boise State Nike Pro Combat Unis Released

Submitted by BlueTimesTwo on

The design for Boise State's Nike Pro Combat uniforms to be worn against Georgia in their season opener have been released:

Two thoughts:  1)  They are not nearly as obnoxious as some of the NPC unis of the past; and 2)  Even if they were over the top, BSU is not exactly known for being understated.  I kind of like them - at least for BSU.

So you can't see their uniforms on their field and now Nike has found a way to make their faces invisible too? I would be seriously pissed if I was another WAC team.

You really think that looks much better than this? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150355898571287&set=a.92677861286.118893.8741241286&type=1&theater

I mean I am biased being from md and them being my second favorite team and I know some of the combinations are pretty ugly but the all blacks are sick and nobody can convince me otherwise.

You laugh, but the Mountain West has already decided that they can no longer wear their blues on their blue turf.  Of course, Colorado State is still allowed to wear green on green turf. Is the MWC afraid of the newcomers?

This rule is dumb.  I actually got to see the blue turf this summer.  It's actually a much different color than it appears on TV (it's a much lighter and brighter color in person).  It always seems on TV that the color of their uniform is virtually the same as the color of the turf, but it really isn't (the blue they wear on their uniforms is definitely a darker blue).

... but to me they just look like football uniforms with glorified lighting for the photoshoot.  The only thing that looked at all interesting was the gloves linking to make the horse.  That's clever, but has been used before, and isn't it a penalty if a player flashes a hand signal like that after a big play?

Anyway, I just don't see these things as being a big deal.

I remember thinking that the baselayer shirt from last year's BSU NPC uniforms was pretty cool and would be good as workout gear (e.g. under hockey gear), but Nike never made them available for sale.  They could have sold a ton of them here in Boise had they made them available.  I thought that the people at Nike were supposed to be marketing geniuses that specialized in milking every penny from the fans of their sponsored teams.  I guess not.

I seriously don't understand them. If the uniforms are so technologically advanced then why don't teams wear them every week? I'd understand if they picked a few schools to have alternate uniforms and called that pro combat, but I don't understand why these uniforms that are supposed to be better than everything else are only able to be worn by a few teams once/twice a year...

I noticed that all of the NPC prototypes that have come out this season have the team's name on the back instead of player names. Is this how it's gonna be on the field or is that just for display purposes?

Senior cornerback Jerrell Gavins: "It amps us up a bit. Being a DB or receiver, you want to look pretty out there. Once you feel like you look good, it adds confidence to your game. Prior to (the game) it's all good but once you're out there you forget about what you've got on."

F'reals? I was under the impression big, strong football players didn't generally worry about looking "pretty". Hopefully the pants don't make his butt look big.

Lots of guys want to look good while they're kicking your butt (not yours specifically Rye LOL). It's not new. just like there are those guys who want to get dirty and mix it up. some guys refuse to wear cold weather gear despite the temperature. I don't have a problem with it as long as you're not spending more time on how you look than how you play.

I like the helmet design. I'm always a fan of big, obvious and noticable helmet designs. (See Michigan...) The different colored shoulder thing is just weird, and Nike has done it for both ProCombat iterations this year. I'm not sure where they're going with it.

Like the unis.

Like the team.

Like the coach.

I even like the turf (probably in the minority on this).

If it's not Michigan, I hope Boise wins the whole freakin' thing.

I agree on all counts.  These things work for BSU.  Of course they did fire their long-time AD over the NCAA violations, and he was really close with Petersen.  Some speculate that in the long run that could make Petersen more likely to entertain offers from other teams.

These are pretty sweet uniforms.  The folks over at UA need to take some notes here.  After seeing those god awful Maryland jerseys the other day this is refreshing.
