OT - Boise State Nike Pro Combat Unis Released
The design for Boise State's Nike Pro Combat uniforms to be worn against Georgia in their season opener have been released:
Two thoughts: 1) They are not nearly as obnoxious as some of the NPC unis of the past; and 2) Even if they were over the top, BSU is not exactly known for being understated. I kind of like them - at least for BSU.

So you can't see their uniforms on their field and now Nike has found a way to make their faces invisible too? I would be seriously pissed if I was another WAC team.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
I think the WAC is more pissed at Boise for being in the Mountain West Conference now.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
I thought they started play in 2012? If not, my bad, MWC.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
.....it's either the light or this dude seriously needs a trim down there.
August 25th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
I was lost in the mountain of manhood. [wipes drool off chin]
August 25th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
They are 920% better than anything Maryland will be wearing....
August 25th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
course, thats not saying much...
August 25th, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
You really think that looks much better than this? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150355898571287&set=a.92677861286.118893.8741241286&type=1&theater
I mean I am biased being from md and them being my second favorite team and I know some of the combinations are pretty ugly but the all blacks are sick and nobody can convince me otherwise.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
If there's one thing I'm sick and tired of already it's the "design on the gloves" thing. Good lord did that get played out fast.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
And this one doesn't even work. You don't overlap your hands like that to catch a ball
August 25th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
You laugh, but the Mountain West has already decided that they can no longer wear their blues on their blue turf. Of course, Colorado State is still allowed to wear green on green turf. Is the MWC afraid of the newcomers?
August 25th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
This rule is dumb. I actually got to see the blue turf this summer. It's actually a much different color than it appears on TV (it's a much lighter and brighter color in person). It always seems on TV that the color of their uniform is virtually the same as the color of the turf, but it really isn't (the blue they wear on their uniforms is definitely a darker blue).
August 25th, 2011 at 11:09 PM ^
As ridiculous as some of the Pro Combats have been, I actually like this one. By the way BlueTimesTwo, which league and team do you play with at the Cube? I also play there.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
I used to play for the Ambulance Chasers there, but now I live and play in Boise.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
... but to me they just look like football uniforms with glorified lighting for the photoshoot. The only thing that looked at all interesting was the gloves linking to make the horse. That's clever, but has been used before, and isn't it a penalty if a player flashes a hand signal like that after a big play?
Anyway, I just don't see these things as being a big deal.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
those... actually look pretty slick. certainly better than most of the shit nike has been calling uniforms.
August 25th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
Those are pretty tight! Like them! Now who wants stripes on the shoulders? Adidas = FAIL!
August 25th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
Cod piece?
August 25th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
I remember thinking that the baselayer shirt from last year's BSU NPC uniforms was pretty cool and would be good as workout gear (e.g. under hockey gear), but Nike never made them available for sale. They could have sold a ton of them here in Boise had they made them available. I thought that the people at Nike were supposed to be marketing geniuses that specialized in milking every penny from the fans of their sponsored teams. I guess not.
August 25th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
the gloves are sick
August 25th, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
Wonder how many of these NPC players will lose TDs or get penalized for taunting with these new gloves?
August 25th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
Further proving my theorem that any time someone calls something on a uniform "sick," it's actually stupid, hackneyed, ugly, or all of the above. In this case, it was clever once upon a time.
August 25th, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
probably one of the illest sets of gloves out there in the game today.
August 25th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
I like the helmet. That looks pretty slick
August 25th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
I like the helmets a lot actually. Other stuff is fine.
August 25th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
I love Tron. /s
August 25th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
I seriously don't understand them. If the uniforms are so technologically advanced then why don't teams wear them every week? I'd understand if they picked a few schools to have alternate uniforms and called that pro combat, but I don't understand why these uniforms that are supposed to be better than everything else are only able to be worn by a few teams once/twice a year...
August 25th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Love them

I surprisingly think the boise state's nike pro combat uni's are sweet this year. (oregons...not so much)
August 25th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
I noticed that all of the NPC prototypes that have come out this season have the team's name on the back instead of player names. Is this how it's gonna be on the field or is that just for display purposes?
August 26th, 2011 at 11:03 AM ^
I assume that is just for display. They also had a very muscular black man wearing Kellen Moore's #11 jersey, so it seems that authenticity was not their goal as much as visual impact.
August 25th, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
Boise's are better than Oregon's, but im seriously over these nike pro combat uni's... they're all starting to look the same
August 25th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
Senior cornerback Jerrell Gavins: "It amps us up a bit. Being a DB or receiver, you want to look pretty out there. Once you feel like you look good, it adds confidence to your game. Prior to (the game) it's all good but once you're out there you forget about what you've got on."F'reals? I was under the impression big, strong football players didn't generally worry about looking "pretty". Hopefully the pants don't make his butt look big.
August 25th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
Lots of guys want to look good while they're kicking your butt (not yours specifically Rye LOL). It's not new. just like there are those guys who want to get dirty and mix it up. some guys refuse to wear cold weather gear despite the temperature. I don't have a problem with it as long as you're not spending more time on how you look than how you play.
August 25th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
but I've got my torch and pitchfork ready in case Michigan ever tries to make alternate uniforms an annual tradition
August 25th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
I like them. Just wouldn't like something similar for us.
August 25th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
I think the Freep should be all over this.
August 25th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
I like the helmet design. I'm always a fan of big, obvious and noticable helmet designs. (See Michigan...) The different colored shoulder thing is just weird, and Nike has done it for both ProCombat iterations this year. I'm not sure where they're going with it.
August 25th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
Like the unis.
Like the team.
Like the coach.
I even like the turf (probably in the minority on this).
If it's not Michigan, I hope Boise wins the whole freakin' thing.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
I agree on all counts. These things work for BSU. Of course they did fire their long-time AD over the NCAA violations, and he was really close with Petersen. Some speculate that in the long run that could make Petersen more likely to entertain offers from other teams.
August 26th, 2011 at 1:08 AM ^
These are pretty sweet uniforms. The folks over at UA need to take some notes here. After seeing those god awful Maryland jerseys the other day this is refreshing.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:20 AM ^
I don't understand the need for gradient colors and asymmetrical designs... on any uniform, not just these.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:34 AM ^
I liked their blue ones from last years VaTech game better....but still I think they are pretty decent.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:53 AM ^
nike will forever be greater than adidas.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
Grey helmets put them over the top for this football fashion showdown. Still the game must be played -- Let the Big Dawg eat.
