OT: Bo Kimble visits Fennville HS today

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

This is the kind of story that gets to you.  Bo Kimble drove from Philadelphia to Holland, Michigan to speak to the team today.

I was in first grade when Hank Gathers died, so my memory of that is a bit hazy.  But I get choked up every time I see Bo take that left-handed free throw.

Also, kudos to Tom Izzo who also reached out to the school and the kid's family.

Ah, Tom Izzo, king of the self-serving gesture.   He didn't just reach out to them - he gave a speech before the game.  It's always got to be about him.

the President of the United States showed up, you'd kick him out too?

Also:

""I did call the coach, and I'm talking to the parents today," Izzo told the Detroit Free Press Monday. "It hit me because of Dorian Dawkins and what we went through here."

Dorian Dawkins, the son of Saginaw High School basketball coach Lou Dawkins, passed out and died in June 2009 while playing in the Tom Izzo Spartan Shoot Out at an intramural facility on campus."

Other than the fact that 2 yrs ago Lou Dawkins kid died at his summer camp...I guess Izzo would have no connection. Never mind that Dawkins is a real good friend of Izzo and of course Draymond GReen went to Saginaw High as well.

So while not family someone who Izzo knew very well died at his summer camp in a way that is close to the way Wes sadly passed away.

Wow man, do some research before you speak.

He's reaching out to a community that needs it. I'll be the first to say that he can be a whiny, arrogant douche, but if you can't pat him on the back for using his standing to try to help those close to a certifiable tragedy, what can you ever give him credit for?

Yes. He's reaching out a community that needs it. Then telling the media all about it, as is his custom.

The "poor economic downtrodden state of Michigan is being propped up by the Spartans!" national media meme of the 2009 Final Four was one of the most offensively idiotic things I've ever seen. And media whore Izzo ate it up with a spoon and actually enhanced it.

The guy truly is all about himself.

for good reason.   A single year of owning MSU doesn't diminish his place on the stage.

I dislike State as much as anyone, but if Tom Izzo reaches out to the Fennville community to offer support or sympathy, we need to stfu and let him.

Without comment.

And no one will listen to Michigan fans if they point to him being a jerk through this gesture. They'll turn on idiots like you, actually. If you want to magnify Izzo being a jerk then you can point to multiple instances but pointing to this incident of all incidents is not only asinine but self-destructive.

Izzo is an arrogant putz, a whiner, and a crybaby.  Even his own players and fans are turning on him now.  And he is not the face of basketball in Michigan.

But consoling those kids was still a class move, no matter what else he has done.

I listened to the final quarter of the game on the way home from work. You could just hear the emotion of the crowd through the speakers. Hats off to Lawrence for the class and sportsmanship they displayed (So I heard). They even rocked warm ups that were dedicated to Wes's memory. And much respect to the Blackhawks for coming together and pulling of a emotional and gutsy win. I wish the Blackhawks the best of luck at the Breslin.

That's great that Tom Izzo did that.  He does not get my Kudos because he gave a speach not his kidney, but regardless it's a good thing.

It's probably hard to be the opponent of Fenville, mixed emotions right there.  I'll keep the community in my prayers.

Some of you people who are ripping on Izzo for reaching out to this school and this family need to check yourself.  I suppose then, that you agreed with the idiotic theory that RR let Brock Mealer lead the team out of the tunnel as a cheap ploy to fire up his team before the home opener last year (as someone theorized on RCBM last).

You should be ashamed.
