OT: Biogenesis baseball suspensions
But if you're so focused on football that you clicked on a clearly titled baseball thread by mistake and can't type correctly you may want to head back to the football threads.
What's so hard about ignoring really well titled threads that you don't care about?
He didn't spell anything incorrectly. Both "focusing" and "focussing" are ok. (The latter feels British to me, though.)
u might also want to check out other football threads than focussing on a clearly-identified non-football thread. Unless u are being held hostage by the evil pageview demon and must click on every link in order to stay alive. If so, click ur mouse 5 times and I'll send help.
There is nothing that can happen in the recruiting world that deserves the phrase "today of all days" and requires tuning out literally the entire rest of society.
Work on some perspective. This thread is infinitely more useful than 100 posts in a Hello thread going OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD, one of which I'm sure would be yours.
The owner of the highest paying contract in American sports is possibly about to be banned for life from his sport. I think it's fine to a spend a little time on this topic.
"A car of the Mondays" - is that a Yugo?
the players association is going to have a field day with this...
why? I heard they are encouraging memebers NOT to appeal and accept all MLB suspensions
Exactly this. From Michael Weiner, the head of the MLBPA:
"I can tell you, if we have a case where there really is overwhelming evidence that a player committed a violation of the program, our fight is going to be that they make a deal," Weiner told the Daily News. "We're not interested in having players with overwhelming evidence that they violated the [drug] program out there. Most of the players aren't interested in that. We'd like to have a clean program."
He has never been suspended before or warned. I highly doubt a lifetime ban would ever hold up in arbitration.
As for Peralta, it will be interesting because no one knows exactly the evidence MLB has against each individual player. Some reports earlier said that none of the Biogenesis documents could actually link Peralta to PED use. Maybe more evidence has turned up since Bosch began cooperating with the investigation.
Yankees want to dump him and MLB wants the Yankees to have that money. He has absolutely no love for the Yankees whatsoever and my guess is that he will take any necessary action to fight this and draw it out as long as possible. A-Rod is washed up and he knows it but he is also a business himself, and a damn good one. He wants the Yanks to pay him his money and if anybody can it is him. A-Rod is the type of guy who will take the whole team and the sport down with him if he can and he may have the chops and wallet to do it.
If the league, the owners and the players association had not let this go on, we wouldn't be here today. After what the powers that be did to the sport, A-Rod is small potatos.
are mistaken if you believe him to be that small.
I'll take a spoonful of those potatoes and be set for life.
Its consistently lying about it, misleading investigators, attempting to destroy evidence and the fact that he apparently takes advice from a team of donkeys based on his actions the last few weeks (and years for that matter). He is dead in the water. He should take his lumps and try to collect 60 something million from the Yankees and never play again.
Ryan Braun lied about it as well last year, and he got a 65 game slap on the wrist. Braun called into question the integrity of collector who ended up losing his job. A-Rod is not the first player to lie about their PED use and mislead investigators. In fact, it has been pretty commonplace among most caught using PEDs. But I don't think I have ever seen anyone get a lifetime ban on a first conviction.
A-Rod has never been convicted and that is the point. A-Rod has never even tested positive unlike Braun. This would be his first conviction as well. Braun may have never been convicted, but he did test positive and only had his case dismissed on a technicality, and in retrospect, he clearly lied and misled during the process.
Apparently not as easy as advertised.
The Yankees definitely want to get out from under his contract and I have no doubts that Selig wants to help them.
As much as I detest A-rod, something seems really fishy with how this and everything else is being handled. Plus, I detest the Yankees even more than A-rod, so I'm bound to think the worst of them.
Yea whats getting lost in this is that the Yanks could very well have signed him to the worst contract...ever...(no but seriously), pay him in his prime, and then get that contract axed in time for the offseason to go aquire whatever else they want. Im not saying it's likely that he gets a lifetime ban and they get outta this, but it sure is looking possible. All the more reason to hate em
Braun was a mini Lance Armstrong in his denial of his previous doping, and he caved pretty instantly. Whatever MLB's has from Biogenesis is most likely very damning evidence. I'll be shocked if players don't take whatever deals they can.
Bartolo better not get suspended. He already served 50 games last year.

Or do a lot of pitches end up improving after multiple minor league stints and a year away from the game when they're 37?
Great. No, I don't think that is normal. The fact is, he used PEDs, admitted to it after getting caught, and was suspended. Unless there is some new evidence besides you saying "he got good all of a sudden!" that proves he continued using after his suspension, why would he get penalized again?
But if he's named in Biogenesis or if he's still using PEDs it won't surprise me.
As a Cubs fan, baseball season ended for me in March. In fact, it might not start up again until 2015 (we'll see how much selling the Cubs do) but that career arc isn't natural, nor is another resurgance. I'll just say that at this point I'm jaded especially when there are Clemens like career resurgances for 35+ year old athletes
Fair enough. I enjoy going to Cubs games, I'm just a couple blocks away on Addison. Hitting up a rooftop on Wednesday actually.
If the documents/Bosch testimony show he was using PEDs after his positive test, he would get 50 games at the minimum and possibly more.
I think he would get even more since that is a second offense. My point is that I have not seen any evidence that he took PEDs again after getting suspended.
I don't think anyone knows exactly what evidence the MLB has because most of it has not been reported yet.
ARod doesn't stand a chance, but I'm interested in seeing when MLB will go after players like Peralta and Nelson Cruz (if they are involved) who play on contenders. 50 games now means these players are back for the playoffs, but pretty soon you'll be really be hurting contenders with no easy way to find stopgaps.
There are no SS on the market worth trading for and would only be a slight upgrade over what the Tigers already have. Alexei Ramirez? I am guessing the Tigers pass.
Well, as of today, the Tigers have 58 games remaining, so.... let's have those suspensions ASAP please.
EDIT: Beat to the punch
Seriously. The way he's been hitting the ball this year, and considering the options we have to replace him, that would be a really big blow if we lost him.
