Tonight ESPN is indicating that the Big East is offering potential membership to five schools...
Boise State (football only)
Air Force (football only)
Houston (all sports)
Southern Methodist (all sports)
University of Central Florida (all sports)
With the 22 team monster MW/CUSA merger occuring (various internet outlets are identifying Big East leadership was taken by surprise on that move) one wonders what the likelihood of all of these teams jumping might be and/or where the Big East goes from here. In other analysis, apparently Temple is both off and on the radar of the Big East depending on who you want to believe.
It is alleged that the basketball only Big East schools want to show how the league is 'together' and up the departure fees to 10 million dollars but the football powers in the conference (West Virginia, Louisville) vehemently oppose such a move even though they would pay it to join the ACC easily. Apparently, the common sense move to add Temple for all sports was blocked by basketball only school Villanova who will also not see their team elevated to FBS status following all these moves.
