OT - Big East To Announce New Members on Wednesday & Thursday

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I've just gotten word that the Big East will be announcing its new members tomorrow.

I work at one of the institutions involved in this "mess" so we've just received a heads up.

San Diego St. and Boise St. will be football only members joining SMU, UCF and Houston. I believe Air Force and Navy will be a football only (named later).

This is crap. Theyre so desperate to keep their auto bid that they're actually making their conference worse by adding these mid-major teams.  I also think that if they actually go through with this trainwreck, they need to rename their conference because San Diego and Boise are clearly not in the east.

Is the auto bid really a big deal anymore? Now that we have a separate championship game rather than it alternating amongst the bowls - the BCS games seem to have lost some of their prestige. This year's Cotton Bowl is a better game/matchup than the Orange. The Cap One and Outback look to be as good.

These teams will never be ranked #1 or #2 so they won't be playing for the MNC.

Ask Boise St., they go from BCS to a TERRIBLE bowl vs. a TERRIBLE team.

It's not just BCS, but Conference Affliation to the other bowls.

If Boise's not in the Sugar, I'm sure they'd take the Peach (Chick-Fil-A) Bowl over what they have now...

no tradition, no geogrphic continuity and hopefully no automatic bids into the BCS.  The Big lEast is exhibit 1A on why the BCS is terrible.

Have fun traveling accross the country all year, boys.  The guys at the biggest advantage are Houston and SMU.  They don't have too big of a hike to go to either side.

What an absolute Cluster F.

There is nothing that glues these institutions together.  No common history, or culture, or geography, or rivalries, . . . nothing.  It is just a random hodge-podge collection of football and basketball schools

Is it any wonder why schools keep dropping out of this "conference" at the first sign of discord or the first opportunity to go somewhere else?

"Hey, Mr. High Profile High School Football Player! Do you want to play for a school in the Big East Conference and partake in some great games? Then come to San Diego State University because nothing says "big east" like San Diego, Houston, and Boise!"

the MWC and Conference USA Commissioners (and remaining school presidents) will put up with members taking their football programs to The Big East while trying to keep their other athletic programs in their original conferences.
