OT: Better Call Saul /K-Strass Yo Yo master
Breaking Bad was one of my favorite shows ever and I never thought any spin off could approach it. Last week's Season Premier of Better Call Saul reminded me of how much I like that show almost as much. The clever writing, risk taking, and great characters make for must see TV as Slippin Jimmy become Saul Goodman (and then Cinnabon Guy).
I chuckled last week at Mark Proksch (from The Office) who played the drug dealer,hummer-driving (license plate: "Playuh"), aka Kenny "K-Strass" Strasser, the Yo-Yo master who pranked morning news shows across the country in 2010 with his masterful skills and environmental wisdom. If you think Andy Kaufmann was funny check this out. If you are too young to know who he is Google him and "Man on the Moon".

I don't see those lapses here. While the highs may not be as high, those lulls make re-watching BB unbearable for me.

Yeah, but just like when Brann's storyline/chapters in GoT, you just have to skim through because everything before and after is worth the drivel of magic kids and insipid wives.

You're missing out. Bran is one of the most interesting characters and may end up being one of the most important.

I agree. I feel like Breaking Bad is the sensationalized version and Better Call Saul is the realistic version of the the same sort of character progression. The fact that they exist in the same world and you know while watching Better Call Saul about his eventual relationship with Walter White, makes the parallell all the more pronounced. I love it.

To each their own, but BB was my favorite show. I can't argue with your reasoning.
My only issue with 'Saul is that I'm not a big fan of the actress playing his significant other. I think she's rather boring, possibly a below average actor, and for some reason her voice bothers me. I'll even go as far as it's a bit distracting. That character seems a bit poorly cast.
Other than that, really enjoying the show. Still waiting for some prequel camios. Maybe Walter/Skylar in the produce section at the grocery store or seeing Gus Fring getting his fade hair did around town.

You mean like Frodo and Sam walking to Mordor.

I binge watched Breaking Bad last year and I'll be honest, it didn't do much for me. I think it is a good show, but so many people made it sound like it's the best show ever, which is so far from the truth. The best show on TV right now is Game of Thrones and nothing is even close.

Don't forget the brother-sister banging PAWWWLLL.
No, but I like Game of Thrones.

No....no. That is wrong, sir.

I agree. The Americans is up there for me too.

The UFO stuff kinda ruined season 2 for me.

Breaking Bad "didn't do much for you"??? Go back to Australia, you commie bastard... :-D
Now, if you like GoT, please read the books. The show is excellent; the books are almost 100% better than the show...

Nah. Reading books is not for me, mate. I prefer TV shows and movies. I think I have read maybe five books my entire life and that is quite possibly stretching it.

I weep for the future...

I'm 34. Why do you weep for the future? Reading books is simply a leisure activity. It also does not interest everyone. There is nothing wrong with that.

I've heard from multiple sources that the books are just way too boring to get into. My mom (avid reader and lover of all things with a Renaissance Fair Flair) tried them, and my best bud tried them. Hard pass I think.

I could not disagree more. I read the first five books in about 6 weeks. 6000 pages and I couldn't put them down...

Yup. I have a friend who raved about Breaking Bad, so I decided to give it a go. Plus I did not want anything to be spoiled, so I just blitzed through it. After it ended, I just thought "meh."

Really? I tried watching that but it was so boring. I thought nothing ever happened. It was just watching someone live their life in the 50's.

Heard it was all about a Coca-Cola commercial

BB is, it was 63 episodes of perfection. GoT is not my thing. Espically when Emila Clarke decided to stop getting naked in it.

but it progresses really slowly, kind of boring at times. No where near the same drama and intensity as BB.

"Fly" nearly killed me.
Vince Gilligan claims that epidode was the result of considerable budgetary restrictions-- and it showed.
February 18th, 2016 at 11:45 AM ^
but at least it took place in a secret underground mega meth lap run by a high school teacher who had cancer. Nothing cool like that happens on BCS.
The best thing that happened on saul is how he and mike recovered all that money from the people who were hiding it under their sink. enough said.

he plays a sleezy lawyer/con artist, what's to love? I'll admit the story on how he became saul seemed interesting, but the writing so far has been disappointing.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:16 PM ^
I think you went into this show with some weird expectations. The show was never pitched or presented that it would be the Breaking Bad drama level. In fact it was presented as very different from that.
You're looking for something that was never intended from this show. It's developing the back story to how Saul came to be. The whole reason for the show is the part you're asking them to gloss over.

entertaining show, and you have to admit those moments have been few and far between. All I'm saiying is BCS is kinda lame and that's with out comparing it to BB.
February 18th, 2016 at 2:24 PM ^
It's your opinion, so no neg for it, but I disagree. I enjoy the show quite a bit. I also think the show will start to develop more this season. This was episode 1 of season 2 which is episode 11. By comparison "Fly" was episode 30 of Breaking Bad. They've established the foundation for his character now they're starting the transformation.
Breaking Bad didn't really blossom until the later seasons in my opinion, so this doesn't surprise me that much.
I happen to be an attorney, so I suppose I could enjoy it more for that reason too.

To each their own I guess. Fly is one of my favorite episodes of television.

Gave that best episode of the season. It was a love it or hate it episode.

I eaglerly anticipated S2:E1 of Better Call Saul...and then was disappointed. The NYT review resonated with me: when are we going to see SAUL. So far, we're seeing a lot of Jimmy.
Regardless, I'll continue to watch. I like the writing, enjoy the characters, and am still interested in the story.

what happens to Kim and Saul?
Sure they took their friendship to another level and had sex, but she was absent from BB.

By the time Jimmy is Saul in BB about six years later, he mentioned he has gone through a few ex-wives.
It's Saul good.
