Looking for a nice piece of Catfish. Was told of one place that had tasty fish by several media outlets, but when I search for it on google, nothing comes up.
Any thoughts? Was the restaurant that the media kept slobbering over real? Could the press really keep reporting on something that nobody actually saw (don't answer that, Mitch Albom)? If the restaurant was fake, why and who created the faux dining establishment?

What shocks me is the reputation on the line. If this soulfood never existed it ruins the restaurants reputation and the reputation of the media outlets who ran with the story. If the soulfood is real it totally destroys the Yelp like entity claiming it never existed.

Turns out the soul food place
Turns out the soul food place exists, but is actually a rib joint called "FreDonna's '51 Cafe". They serve you ribs but call it catfish. It's delicious but heavy food, tends to slow you down.
South Bend officials are calling FreDonna's "fried catfish" a cruel hoax perpetrated on unsuspecting restaurant goers.

Did Albom fabricate stories other than something about former MSU players at the final four a few years ago, or are there other confirmed instances? I'm not familiar with what the OP is referencing. I'm not defending him, since I've heard he's, um, very difficult to deal with.

The MSU final four story was what I was referring to. He went so far as to describe what the ex players were wearing in the stands (was it Peterson and Randolph, can't remember). Problem was the guys didn't actually go to the game. Oops.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an isolated incident either. It's funny to see a guy's ego grow to epic proportions during my lifetime. When I was a kid, my dad would take me to see his live "Sports Albom" show from some rib restaurant in Farmington Hills and he was a genuinely nice guy and was very knowledgeable on Detroit sports.
Then sports became too good for him and he wrote human interest with only the occasional sports story. Then came Tuesdays with Morrie and the recognition that comes with a New York Times bestseller, and an Espn gig on sports reporters and his Free Press writing seems to have become his lowest priority.
He went from a must read to a guy I purposely try to avoid reading.

Drew Sharp allegedly flipped on the TV in the middle of Verlander's last no-hitter after getting a call from the editor and fabricated just a tad of what he saw. Though I hate Drew, I can't help but put a lot of the blame on the editors. Both that and the Albom piece show poor judgement on the editorial staff.
