OT: Best Places to Study

Submitted by winged helmet on
As a senior, I'm getting sick of going to Espresso, the stacks, the ugli (death), etc. What were your favorite places to study? And for the fellow students out there, what are your favorite places to study? Any unconventional, unique places? I'd have to go with the 4th floor of the Dana building as my favorite. It was redone a few years back so many of you may not be familiar. The open air courtyard was turned into part of the building with a glass roof and now provides many common areas with natural lighting. Thoughts?

I don't know what it's like now, but before the USB was open to full time classes, that place was sweet. There was this room on the second floor with whiteboards everywhere. No one was ever there because classes were only held in the AM and they hadn't fitted it for a computer lab yet. I also loved Amir's on Church. Quiet with just a bit of movement. For papers or assignments, I'd generally hole myself up in the fourth floor of the UGLi. Vomit. Had to be done, I guess.

I liked the big room with the high ceiling on the second floor of the Grad, especially in the evening, but mostly I just went to coffee shops. I needed caffeine to really get stuff done. Nothing was more frustrating than going to one during finals week (especially during the winter) and finding it full.

The law library was the only place I could study effectively without suffering from sensory underload or completely surrendering to ADD. Perfect mix of inspiration and distraction.

When I was studying for my biochemistry/cell biology and physics prelims for my biophysics PhD candidacy my favorite place to study were the study lounges in Rackham Hall. It is quiet as a tomb in their and it is right next to B dubs for dinner.

Definitely the Dude, there's less distractions on North Campus. I am a bit biased though since I was an engineering student. The aerospace engineering lounge is cool.
