OT - Best places to live for rich and single. AA#21

CNN Money posted a list of the top25 places for rich and single places to live. Ann Arbor ranks in at #21 with a 47.7% single and median income of $92,992.

The University of Michigan Wolverines may be a rowdy bunch, but Ann Arbor has plenty to offer beyond sports nuts. Bookworms might find romance at Borders' flagship location, which namesake brothers Tom and Louis opened in 1971 as a used book shop in the academic community. On one of the town's frigid winter days, check out Ann Arbor's Hands-On Museum, which boasts nine unique galleries of more than 250 interactive exhibits, then stay warm at one of the local microbreweries such as Arbor Brewing Co., which takes an eco-friendly approach to making beer. --H.Y.

Link here: http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/moneymag/1007/gallery.best_places_ri...

However, I don't think this is a proper list. Sure the median income is high, but most of the single people are poor students. Perhaps college towns should not be counted. But thought I'd post it anyway to share.

If you have money, prison isn't that bad.  Even if you don't get sent to Club Fed, you can use your cash to buy smokes, Ramen noodles, and Flamin' Hot Cheetohs.  These can then be traded in exchange for not getting anally raped.  Once that worry is out of the picture, you are pretty much just sitting around a tiny room, doing push-ups, or watching Maury Povich with the fellas.

Sure beats Ohio in my book.

I disagree with this quite a bit.  I lived in Hermosa for a few years and there's a pretty big difference between Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan, especially between Redondo and the other two.  It's much cheaper to live in Redondo, and it's the only one where everything isn't walkable.  The school district in Redondo is worse than Hermosa/Manhattan, the pier in Redondo is much worse than the other 2 and the beach is set up differently as well.  People who live in Redondo go to Hermosa and Manhattan to go out, rarely do people go the other way.

For this list, if you picked one of the three, I would pick Manhattan first, Hermosa a close second and Redondo a distant third.  Any South Bay folk care to back me up on this?

Well, I used to live in the South Bay. I agree that for the young nightlife, Hermosa and Manhattan have more to offer, so I guess that feeds into the whole 'single and rich' argument against Redondo. When I did live there though I wasn't in my young 20s and instead with my parents so I guess that is skewing my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love Hermosa and Manhattan (probably Hermosa the most) but Redondo is a pretty nice place to live. But also, I always thought of the South Bay as a bubble away from LA proper, and it's not exacty impossible to get from Redondo to Hermosa to Manhattan for nights out.

is a strange one. Moved there from the city when I got married, and my wife and liked it for the family friendliness. But single? Can't see it. Every single person I knew there spent all their time in the city.

I live adjacent to Sandy Springs, GA now. Another puzzler. Though for single men, the Atlanta area has it's perks. Not sure if it's still true, but single women outnumbered single men here by a pretty good margin a few years ago. All those pretty southern belles you see in the stands at Ole Miss, Bama, Clemson, Auburn, UGA games seem to have ended up here. Alas I'm neither single nor rich.

I can't think of many creepier places to meet ladies than Borders and the Hands On Museum. Unless you're into picking up homeless dudes and 7 year olds.

Wow, a bookstore AND a brewery! How amazing!

Seriously who compiles this shit? Ann Arbor is an amazing town but not because it has some touristy bookstore and a museum.
