I wish I could say it was something better than socks, but I can't.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:56 PM ^
Socks to (be) you.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:02 PM ^
To be fair they are really nice ski socks but still...
December 27th, 2017 at 3:00 PM ^
Genius
December 27th, 2017 at 3:20 PM ^
My wife had some custom socks made for me with my dog's face on them. Best present by far.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:27 PM ^
That is awesome!!
December 27th, 2017 at 4:00 PM ^
I agree. Way cool.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:51 PM ^
Gonna be some epic humblebrags in this thread...
December 27th, 2017 at 2:57 PM ^
is either when I got new tires for my Bentley or the new glass backboards for my full sized indoor basketball court.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:04 PM ^
I'm going with the new retractable cover for my indoor Olympic sized swimming pool.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:20 PM ^
I got a bomber jacket for when I'm flying my private jet. (The jacket part is true.)
December 27th, 2017 at 4:15 PM ^
You mean to tell me you have to fly your own jet?
Edit: and now I'm getting banner ads encouraging a career as a private pilot.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:25 PM ^
My husband gave me a DNA kit from Ancestry.com to trace my royal lineage.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:28 PM ^
My wife keeps asking about this. Interested if its worth it.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:34 PM ^
but for some reason my wife insists that I don't?
December 27th, 2017 at 3:35 PM ^
Thats odd. I do know that most people born after 1989 seem to not give a fuck about their heritage/ancestry. Im sure not all of them.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:39 PM ^
if you are just interested in the ethnicity part, probably not. it's cool to look at once in awhile, but it's a snapshot from thousands of years ago and you can't do much with it.
The bigger value, IMO, is connecting with others (3rd cousins, 4th cousins, etc) to confirm your family tree and share stories.
If you aren't willing to put in a little effort about your basic family tree, or to message others the value of your test results will be diminished.
December 27th, 2017 at 8:38 PM ^
My wife gave me a kit for my birthday last year. My mother in law loves doing the family tree part. She has even done mine. Which is a bonus for me. I ended up finding all of my mother's cousins that she and her siblings have never met. Which is pretty cool.
December 27th, 2017 at 4:50 PM ^
My mother was adopted and started to look for her birth parents. She got as far as finding out her mother was a 19 year old cleaning lady in an office and her father was an office worker, and the dream of being from some fancy family was suddenly gone. I'd like to know more.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:37 PM ^
I gave my sons Ancestry.com DNA kits. They thought it was pretty cool, but asked why I got them both kits. Thinking the results would be the same, they don't know why I divorced their mother, YET.
December 28th, 2017 at 8:11 AM ^
Savage.
December 27th, 2017 at 4:33 PM ^
my wife got one if those from her parents. not something I care about but whatever makes her happy.
December 27th, 2017 at 7:08 PM ^
I’m torn between this ski trip to Winer Park I’m on or the brand new 2018 f-150 waiting in my garage. Probably the truck.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:51 PM ^
Abe, watch your back. I got the Lord of the Rings books and movies. Never owned them, but love them.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
Sounds awesome. I am thinking of rereading them soon. This would be my 4th go around.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:52 PM ^
Gift card to a fly shop. Wont cover the entire purchase for a new fly rod, but every little bit helps.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
I received Orvis Gift Cards to get some more tying material. What rod are you getting?
December 27th, 2017 at 4:34 PM ^
Most likely getting the Scott Flex 8-6 in 4WT. Right now I'm using a cheaper rod and reel combo that was around $200.
Fly fishing isn't just a phasefor me so I feel like I should by some better gear. I was able to test cast the flex and it is awesome at mid distance (30-40 ft) which is what I tend to cast the most in the Eastern Sierras.
I should break out my vice right now. I haven't done that at all this year.
December 27th, 2017 at 6:14 PM ^
for life.
mine are old, at least a quarter century, but i love them so. they have seen some stuff, too.
December 27th, 2017 at 6:56 PM ^
is that a click and pawl reel? If you take care of the gear, they should last a long time. Which reminds me that I should probably clean my fly line.
I think some of the older gear looks awesome. Last time I went out there was an old guy using an old glass rod and an old school pflueger Medalist reel.
December 27th, 2017 at 10:46 PM ^
it is old and beat, but still works just fine. and fwiw, my first fly rod was a fiberglass rod that my grandfather gave me 50 yrs ago...and i used it with a hook and worm. no worries about your old glass rod and pfluegger reel. it is nice to have gear you like but the bottom line is that you can roll cast for about 90% of the fish you want to cast at, and the fish don't care what name is on the rod/reel. as they say, tight lines, ken.
December 27th, 2017 at 10:20 PM ^
Very nice. I recently picked up an Orvis Recon in 7 weight and love it.
December 27th, 2017 at 5:06 PM ^
Have you had a chance to fully test them? How well do those stay on?
I've tested one that my coach had and it was really annoying since it was the kind you strap to your goggles. The thing would never stay put unless you tighten your googles to an uncomfortable level.
I would look into getting those if they would stay in place when I do flip turns or push off the wall.
December 27th, 2017 at 5:19 PM ^
I use fairly basic goggles but the key is 2 head straps, I find it very easy to aggrange the headphone with the 2nd strap for extra stability. I will say I don't use it for more intense masters swimming, but if I want to get in a easy mile, it works great!
December 27th, 2017 at 5:28 PM ^
I'll have to check those out, sounds like something I can use when I'm just lap swimming on the weekends by myself and not swimming with the team.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:52 PM ^
That OSU-Iowa game is on BTN...what a thing of beauty.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:54 PM ^
$50 worth of gas gift cards.
As for Michigan gifts (didn't participate in the other thread), the favorite M thing I got was a tie between the new Jordan vest and this bag.
I've needed a duffel bag for a long time and I got this best one imaginable.
December 27th, 2017 at 2:56 PM ^
Cute lanyard and bedroom outfit.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:05 PM ^
That's a pink Michigan lanyard I got my gf.
I bought her a ton of Michigan stuff for Chrisitmas. Every day she wakes up in her room at turns a little more Maize and Blue. Just look at her dog-
December 27th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
Nice! Just poking fun.
December 27th, 2017 at 3:33 PM ^
talking to ourselves again, eh?
December 27th, 2017 at 3:40 PM ^
Yep we are all the same person. You are the only one on this blog... well, and me.
December 27th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
Dude, would 'Honest Abe' lie?
December 28th, 2017 at 8:17 AM ^
For those of us who haven't had the privilege of knowing why you have such disdain for a guy you likely only know from this blog, why such hate for WD? It is a passion of yours. Really an odd and unhealthy passion, but your passion. I, personally, would love to know.
Thanks.
December 27th, 2017 at 4:47 PM ^
Every day she wakes up in her room at turns a little more Maize and Blue
and I'm sure she appreciates your controlling behavior.
