Totally disagree on this. Hippie Hash is the last thing I'm ordering at Fleetwood while drunk. However, I can't think of too many other things unique to Ann Arbor that exist after 2am.

Yeah, post 2 AM you have backroom pizza, pizza house, cottage inn, BTB, jimmy johns, quickie burger, etc. Nothing really as original as Hippie Hash in the late hours, but I still don't see it as a major drunk destination for students unless they live off campus.

Yeah, I agree with this assessment. I think mostly of the South U places and may be NYPD or Quickie. I don't think of a place FOR STUDENT DRUNK FOOD (this being the key part, since this is related to the schools) that is PASSED Main Street as a destination for students late night, unless they've been on Main Street to begin with. I feel like most people hang out on South U though, but I might be South U-centric.

I mean, BU is third because of some food truck...but you could pick any place around their campus which literally covers a long stretch of Boston. Hell, you could pick any drunk food place in the city near a bar that students hangout at. I feel like the criteria is pretty ambiguous.

Also, I am getting both hungry and sick looking at these pictures.

Really? Ann Arbor has cliqued up like that for a reason. South U bars are appealing to undergrads because they are dives with cheap booze. Seriously, I have never been able to get as drunk for under $10 than the mason jars at Charley's. Rick's is a shining display of undergrad frat culture.

When I was an undergrad, I would gripe at any beer that cost over $5. I wanted my pitchers for less than $10.

Now as a young professional, the Main St. and downtown bars are much more appealing to me. I don't want to be surrounded by undergrads, mostly underage, trying to get as drunk as they can before last call.

No offense to Zingerman's, but I am really happy that they didn't get picked. I get kind of sick of seeing every reference to Ann Arbor food being Zingerman's.

That said, Yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy Fleetwood!

If you look at all the other schools' entries, they're all weird, wacky, out-of-this-world concoctions (at least if you want to get a good "ranking").  So, I support this choice, although backroom pizza, Charley's pepperoni sticks, or Mr Spots might be more popular.

And damn, I'm hungry after looking at that list!

I won't disagree. Bells Greek Pizza was the choice for people who wanted to do tasty body destruction after the bars closed.  Pizza so greasy that it would melt through the dollar store paper plates they'd serve it on in less then a minute.  You got it by the slice for 79 cents back in the day.   http://thebellspizza.com/ I think they messed this choice up.

East Lansing is fine, but it is an outpost with very limited choices in most categories like this.

I was a student when BTB opened too, I think I was a sophomore, so was it like 2004?  Anyway, I always liked it because it was local, but as for the best burrito, I always preferred Panchero's.

Still, Jimmy John's might be what I miss from campus the most, living somewhere that doesn't have any.

Unique? Maybe not.  Absolutely ESSENTIAL on the walk home at 2 in the morning from South U? Absolutely.

Beyond that, my vote for "shit you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole sober but becomes worth its weight in gold once your BAC breaks 0.12%" goes to Backroom Pizza, with an honorable mention to Bells.

BTB is easily the best drunk food in Ann Arbor.  Not only is it delicious but it is super fun to throw the but end of your burrito at parked cars!  Try it next time you're stumbling around state street at 3:00 am, I dare you!

Don't get me wrong. There's fantastic late night food in Toledo. Great individual stuff. But RIGHT next to the majority of the dorms on campus there was a Taco Bell. Drunk at 2AM? You were staggering over for a bean burrito.

If you could find somebody sober to drive you though, there were better options.

Man, this thread makes me hungry.

and a UT grad, but Im not sure there are that many options late night, in town. Cottage Inn, Steak-n-shake, Waffle House...all pretty generic. I cant think of many places close to campus that are open late with good drunk food. Wish we got the Paninis they talked about...where on earth did you find this "fantastic late night food" at UT? Im jealous.
