OT - Best birth date ever?

Submitted by Voodlezang on
Today is my birthday. It is also St. Patrick's Day. I dare ask, is it the best day to have a birthday? I would argue yes, considering everyone buys you drinks, the bars are always full for St. Patty's Day, the weather starts to warm up around now, and the NCAA tourney starts the week of St. Patty's Day. Anyone have any other awesome birth dates?

I changed my birthday to April 1 once as a joke on facebook about 4 years back... nobody figured out that they had wished me a happy birthday just 3 months prior, and I changed it back about halfway through the day because I started to feel guilty.

Then again, you would think they'd have been tipped off when they saw that my entire profile had been suddenly warped to be like that of a stereotypical blonde girl.

Regardless, I can tell you that the one time my birthday was on April 1, it was wonderful.

November 27 -- I share a birthday with Jimi Hendrix and Bill Nye the Science Guy.  Plus, every few years, I get a delicious turkey dinner.  It's also far enough from Christmas that I rarely get the dreaded double-occasion present.

Shared with JFK and Scary Spice, this day never fails to fall on Memorial Day weekend. Awesome weather, and a long weekend to enjoy it. Also my 21st birthday marks the end of my dad's child support payments for me so he'll be celebrating with me. WINNING.

as this really hot girl in high school who was in the class ahead of me. She used to give me a birthday kiss that would last me the whole year, if ya know what I mean.....!

Today is my birthday as well and yes a St. Patrick's Day birthday is the best as the bars open at 5am with drink specials.  So happy birthday to you and to me as well (unfortunately the bar days are long gone and I am at work and will be here until after 7 tonight so I won't get to celebrate until this weekend).

I was born on Easter Sunday (and every eleven years my birthday falls on that day again).  Jesus Christ didn't rise from the dead to heal the world of its sins, he just didn't wanna miss the party.

I have a buddy from Michigan (the guy who introduced me to MGoBlog no less) whose birthday is today, his last name it Bier (pronounced how you think) and he's from Milwaukee, the Brew City. He was born to drink.

Being born around Thanksgiving allows your birthday to occassionally align with the day (and evening) before Thanksgiving, one of (if not the biggest) bar nights in the country.

That's tough to beat. My bday is beginning of September so every few years Michigan's first or second football game falls on that day which is not so bad. That said losses on that day make for an odd bday, which happened at Washington a few years ago on while at the game.

My birthday was two days ago, and I have to echo your sentiments about the weather starting to warm up.  Every March, it starts to not suck to be in Michigan, and I have this "Yes, my coming has brought warmth, life, and joy back to the land" feeling.  To a lesser extent, March Madness is also cool because I feel like I have some extra leeway in taking a really long lunch or two.  Meanwhile, the Ides of March seems to be a distinctly amusing day because nothing important really happens but everybody remembers a millennia-old assassination with varying degrees of fondness... so it's just weirdly fun.

HOWEVA, I set myself up for a huge disappointment when I realized in approximately middle school that I would turn 21 two days before St. Patrick's Day.  It seemed like a great week was inevitable: get totally out of control on my bday, have a day and a half to recover, then make my first foray into Kegs & Eggs at some campus establishment and spend the rest of the day playing Green Beer Pong on a front lawn with no fear of law enforcement.

When 21 rolled around, the birthday part went fine, but I was a UM student bus driver and somehow got stuck with a 6 AM shift and then another around 4 PM.  I got to drive up South U in the wee hours of the morning and see everybody else lined up for ridiculousness, then drop by my friend's outdoor beer pong game in the afternoon, just to watch and drink water.  I remember it as the most wistful St. Patrick's Day ever.

- Day before taxes are due (usually), which meant most gift-givers are in a foul mood

- Lincoln shot on my birthday (died the next day)

- Titanic hit the iceberg on my birthday (sank the next day)

It could be worse - April 15 has taxes, the day Lincoln died and the Titanic actually sank.

On the flip side, I suspect my parents celebrated Bastille Day 9 months before I was born.

I was told by my parents I was conceived on St. Patty's Day - in the Drake Hotel in Chicago.  They wanted to name me Drake, which is weird because I don't need to always be thinking about my parents drunk hotel romp that resulted in my conception.

4-20 brah. It is a nice birthday if you partake in those activities. Also have shared with Easter Sunday a couple of times. The downside? Hitlers Bday, Columbine, BP explosion.

I don't know about that, but I wouldn't want it to be on Valentine's or my Anniversary....

Those of you who are married know where I'm coming from.

Well my son's birthday is August 29th. He shares it with my dad and my wife's mom. I told both of them when he was born, "Happy Birthday, here's your present!" He's 12 now and not too happy that Michael Jackson was also born on the 29th.
