Well this sucks for the Lions. At least we still have the best WR in the game!
at least it's not just us?
Well this sucks for the Lions. At least we still have the best WR in the game!
Look two threads down. A whole discussion on NFL free agency.
To be fair, this is a trade.
True, but still.
To be fair,
we still discussed it two threads down and it is not worthy by itself
Anyway, the other thread title was about free agency and this is a trade. Plus, how is the OP supposed to know it was discussed in a thread titled something that isn't inclusive of all NFL player personnel decisions? Are we all supposed to peruse all if the contents of every post before sharing something? This is just about as relevant as Moss signing with the 49ers and Howard making coaching decisions. At least it was labeled OT. Did this thread actually annoy people that much?
because now the bears are on the same level as the Lions and I don't like it
Were they not on the same level last year? Barring the massive injury train, the Bears were on track to have equally as good of a season.
Barring we didn't have injuries to Leshore and Best, no
apparently he has gotten an early start for St. Patrick's Day.
Didn't know it was an open thread, thought it was just an "announcement" of sorts.
For 2 3rd rounders? Bears got a steal on this one, Marshall is definitely worth that price tag.
lol it is just crazy how fast this board brings the new news to the table.
This isn't a news site, if you want Breaking News go to CNN, if you want MgoBlog, then come here. That is all.
that was a compliment on how this board covers all sports and at a fast pace. So SamirCM please stop hugging these please
Strange that Miami, in efforts to lure Peyton in, trade away their best WR for peanuts. Unless they sign Wayne and Clark they aren't going to get Peyton now.
I've heard in months. Obviously I'm a Bears fan... DA BEARS!!!!!!
You suck. Bear down!
as you as you guys have cutler, i will never worry about the bears!
Wooo! Also, apparently they're looking into Jason Campbell for a backup QB. That would be nice too. There's even some talk about Mario Williams but I doubt that they'll be a serious contender for his services.
We need to have Lovie stand outside of Mario's house holding a boom box like John Cusack.
they can get Payton Hillis as well and finish 8-8 like the 2008 Broncos!
Lol, Brandon Marshall is not anywhere near worth the trouble. He only shows up half the time and if I had to put money on the next player to end up in jail, it would be him. Jay Cutler + Marshall = most overrated QB/WR pairing in the NFL.
Now if Sheffler went to Chicago they would have the 3 cry babies like the Denver days.
Bears fans aparently don't like hearing the truth. Downvote it if you want though.
As I said in the other thread, you can't be too mad about the move since you didn't give up much, but I wouldn't really want BM on my team for any cost.
In 2007 and 2008 when Cutler and Marshall were together, here are Marshall's stats:
2008: 104 Receptions for 1265 yards with average yards per game at 84.3 and 6 TDs
2007: 102 Receptions for 1325 yards with average yards per game at 82.8 and 7 TDs
That sounds pretty damn excellent to me. Some people apparently don't like hearing the truth. Downvote me if you want, but your post is bad.
Stafford > Cutler
Megatron > Everyone
...still a very good deal for the bears, though.
True, but the better comparison would be Pat Tillman to Chris Houston as Houston will have to cover Marshall. Or just Bears's scondary > Lions's secondary.
Bigger concern is my friend was telling me apparently there are rumors about the Bears getting Mario Williams, which would complicate things for Stafford's health if that happened. Dont know how likely this is though.
It's surprising that it's taken this long for the Bears to get a WR. As a Lions fan, I'd prefer them getting Marshall over Vincent Jackson. I've seen Marshall make some incredible catches but he has also had some serious drop issues. Still, good pick-up for the Bears.
Considering you couldn't sign free agents until today, I don't know why you're wondering why it took them so long. This seemed pretty quick in my opinion.
I think he was referring to the past couple of years. They have been trying to make things work in Chicago with subpar receivers, but finally realized they need at least one big playmaker to complement Forte and the running game.
Chicago is only one year removed from winning the division and playing in the NFC championship game, so the more assets they add, the worse news it becomes for the Lions. We do have to play them twice a year still and I would much rather play a Bears team that has as few big play guys as possible. It is going to be a pretty strong division this year With Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit.
I'm a big Bears fan, and from a talent and need standpoint this deal makes a lot of sense.
But Brandon Marshall's history makes it clear to me that he is a horrible, reprehensible human being. If I owned a football team I would never employ him.
This is the dumbest thing I've heard from a Bears fan today. Sure, he has had past off-the-field issues but he's been much better behaved in the past few years. The man was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which I urge you to read up on so you can understand where some of those issues have come from.
Jerry Sandusky is a horrible, reprehensible human being. Brandon Marshall is an athlete who had issues in the past.
And I urge you to read up on his relationship with women in the past (and I'll leave it at that). I'm fully aware of his condition, and I'm also fully aware of his past. And in consideration of my knowledge of both, I still think he's a horrible, reprehensible human being.
Also, I think we need a new version of Godwin's Law that replaces Hitler with Sandusky. I'm not allowed to think anyone is reprehensible unless they're as awful at life as Jerry Sandusky?
I'm fully aware of his past. But I don't think Marshall qualifies as a horrible, reprehensible human being. Using such inflammatory language to describe a person in this way should be reserved for people who truly deserve it. Considering his condition and the difficulty in treating it, I believe he deserves a tiny amount of understanding and credit for admitting his problem.
Well, word just came out that he just punched out some woman in a night club and gave her a black eye. Not a good first impression with the Bears.
maybe she has an adam's apple.
I, for one, am shocked. #notshocked
Seriously. I got negged and insulted last night for saying that I wouldn't take the risk with BM. Well he has not even been on the team for 24 hours and news like this is already coming out. I understand the mental issues, but that does not excuse him for anything.
....this trade does unease me just a little bit, especially since you're reuniting Marshall with the QB that rather put him on the map,and now this will make Earl Bennett just that much better while Marshall gets the coverage. It may not pan out so well necessarily, of course, but I think the possibility of this clicking should be of note to our friends in the Lions' head office if your conference rivals are making these sorts of moves. They did, on paper, get better.
As for the questions about Marshall's behavior, he has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and while that excuses nothing, it does put certain things in some sort of perspective. As long as he is continuing psychotherapy and making an effort to mitigate issues rooted in this particular problem, I would take the risk if I were the Bears if the upside is a Pro-Bowl quality receiver potentially.
Now, the real question - to whom shall Matt Moore pass in Miami?
is going to trade for Tim Tebow when Denver signs Manning and go back to the days of running the wildcat!
Fuck the bears, i was at that trash tornado at chicago last year and i had to listen to their stupid fight song every time they scored.
High point of the season before the wheels came off the track. Great first move by the new GM, now gotta get Forte locked in to a long term deal.
Locking down a RB to a long term contract is one of the worst things you can possibly do in the NFL. I'm ok with them franchising him and letting him play year to year. It sucks but RB's have been horrible investments in recent years.
He probably doesn't mind the trade because he's obviously still upset about not being able to play with Henne anymore.
Reggie Wayne stays with the colts ? I thought he'd be a package deal with Manning
Thats why it hurt, I was there for the high point of your season
