OT- BCS argumentative research paper

Submitted by da shiz on
Greetings MGoBloggers I am currently taking my last English class ever(thank god), and one of the final assignments is a 10 page argumentative research paper. For a paper this long i need a topic that I'm truly passionate about; and what better than college football? Most, if not all, of us know that the great controversy of college football is of course: the BCS system vs a playoff system I wrote a shorter 6 page paper on this same topic last semester but I'll re-word everything to avoid that whole plagiarism thing. Onto the whole point to my post...I want to improve my paper but don't want to post it on here so my teacher doesn't Google a section of it and find it on a sports blog. (I almost did, that would have been stupid of me) At the moment there are no rebuttals to why a playoff system would be bad but from what I've read around here, the BCS makes a lot more money than a playoff would. Is there any factual data to prove that so I could put it in my paper? Also, I understand that a playoff would remove the student athletes from their schools or homes for a longer duration, but doesn't March Madness do the same thing? So if you could comment on the reasons a playoff system is a better option than the BCS system, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused. Are you saying you don't have any reasons why a playoff system would be worse, or why it would be better? Also, one difference between March Madness and a football playoff is that a football playoff would take place over top of two holidays, and/or final exams. Granted, the bowls do too, but that's for only one game. (Me, I don't see this as a problem, but that's the difference for you. Also, half the teams in March Madness are kaputski before the weekend even begins - football playoffs would probably be all Saturdays.)

Sorry for the confusion. I need a few reasons why a playoff system would be a bad idea so i can refute them to make my position stronger. That, and any useful information relative to the debate between the BCS and a playoff.

"Useful information relative to the debate" is kind of like writing a paper on World War II. There is a LOT of shit you can include. Needs narrowing down. As for reasons why a playoff system is a bad idea, exactly what kinds are you looking for? Competitive? Financial? Aesthetic? And how will you back them up?

You probably wouldn't call it plagiarism but it would be considered academic dishonesty if it's against the rules of the class. While it's probably not listed explicitly in the syllabus which might get you off the hoook in the end, the process of getting to that point won't be fun if you do get caught.

+1 for Captain, it took me a few seconds to realize what that meant. Looking back, this is very lazy of me to ask for information for my paper instead of just looking for some myself. I'm sure if i use the search option I'll find one of Brian's awesome posts about my topic

Do something more interesting and specific to Michigan, like for instance, argue in favor or against the objectionable treatment that RR has received from the local media and even the alum since he's been here. I've just seen the BCS topic come up many times, do what you want obviously.

TA, I can say turbo cool's got the right idea. You'll be doing your instructor a big favor in shooting for something a bit more creative because that person is probably grading 70 or 80 argumentative papers over a weekend. That is grueling work, my friend, because most of them aren't particularly well written, the topics are rarely compelling, and inevitably kids write about the same damn things--i.e., I'd get 4 or 5 papers on the BCS. That makes for a moody grader.

By the sounds of it you aren't in my section as my final paper has to be 15 pages but its good to see I'm not the only one being dragged through yet another English course!

Sometimes it’s so difficult to choose a good topic for your paper, and sometimes it’s not entirely clear what to write in your paper, there’s just not enough ideas. It is in such cases, especially when I have problems with writing a [SPAM LINK DELETED], I use resources where there are examples of such works and this helps me a lot in writing my papers. Reading such college term paper samples, I find ideas for my own paper. And this is very convenient.
