So. Batman is great when he has time to prepare (have to read Grant Morrrison's JLA run for background). In the Tower of Babel story arc, he developed dossiers on every JLA member in case they were mind controlled by white Martians. It was red kryptonite for Superman.

Thing is...Batman is smart as hell. He knows Clark through and through. Knows he really doesn't want to fight and would prefer to talk it out. Knows how to attack him. In Dark Knight Returns, he lured him to an open field to fight. Knew Superman would be cautious; knew he would scan using his X-ray vision. So he sets up missiles that are X-ray sensitive. He used the city grid for more power to deal with Clark's strength. Used a sonic gun to disorient him (sensitive ears).

Same thing in Dark Knight Strikes Back; had Green Arrow hit him with an arrow tipped with liquid kryptonite; had The Flash put little kryptonite bombs on his person; had The Atom shrink and dance on his eardrum (to disorient him). Then told him to him to get the hell out of his cave.

Long story short, the entire JLA considers Batman to be the biggest threat if they had a battle royale because he knows each of them and knows precisely how to defeat them. He will work around their physical advantages.

Yeah, comic book nerd from 1981.

Superman and Batman have opposing ideologies with respect to fighting crime. Batman will grind your kneecaps into dust to get an answer if need be; Superman far prefers to give someone the opportunity to come clean, and will still try his best to avoid any sort of violence if he can. They crossed paths in Frank Miller's graphic novels a few times (Dark Knight Returns in the open field where Batman faked a heart attack; Dark Knight Strikes Back when Superman came to talk but Batman roughed him up and kicked him out). The costume and illuminated eyes come right from the costume design in Dark Knight Returns (the armor he used to fight Superman).

So they have traditionally argued while acknowledging what hey both bring to the table. Grant Morrison is responsible for the entire "Batman is almost unbeatable with prep time" philosophy, hence him being the go to for tactics and strategy (this is fleshed out in Mark Waid's "Tower of Babel" story arc). Superman is, of course, the brawn. Superman = born a "god" (the scene in Kill Bill 2 where they discuss the Superman mythos is awesome); Batman is the embodiment of peak physical conditioning. Superman is computer calculation smart; Batman is identify trends/analytic smart (second best detective in comics; Sherlock Holmes is tops).

Lots there over the years, but they're borrowing heavily from the conflict in Dark Knight (Frank Miller).

I'm not sure which is more pathetic. The fact that they've run out of ideas so they decided to pit these two against each other, or Ben Affleck as Batman.

This looks absolutely dreadful. Will set the Batman franchise back for years.

You often wonder about that? That's happened enough that you honestly spend time wondering about that? Really? That's really fucking sad and hilarious.

Yep,  great comic book success correclates 100% of the time to a great movie, thanks for your opinion.

Don't let the box office numbers fool you, this movie is going to suck and Ben Affleck is going to make a horrendous batman

I just have 0 faith in Zach Snyder doing anything competent these days. Man of Steel was destruction porn at best.

God I hope for the sake of DC's movie universe that Snyder doesn't fuck this up...

Always liked DC better than Marvel and it pains me to see them fail so hard over the years. Ugh...

Superman killed General Zod at the end of Superman II. Christopher Reeve the big blue boyscout himself kills all three of the Krpytonians after he depowers them at the fortress of Solitude during the climax of Superman II.

Thats not the only time Superman has killed either.

Anyone who has read the comics care to explain how this would even be a fight? Wouldn't Superman kill Batman whenever he wanted? The powers between the 2 isn't comparable.

In the original graphic novel Batman gets some help from Green Arrow who uses a kryptonite tipped arrow to weaken Superman. I won't give anything else away but that's what evens the scales. Honestly the original graphic novel was great partly because it played with well-known characters who had been established within the DC universe and showed one future of how things could play out. I'm not sure it's the best source for a movie especially if these are characters they plan to build a universe and various franchises around. This trailer doesn't do anything to change my thoughts about that. Also Snyder's MoS was an abomination. That's not the guy I'd go with to helm things.

The biggest issue DC has with establishing their own cinematic universe is trying to catch up to the massive head start Marvel established. DC needs to continue their own thing and not worry about Marvel. Their TV universe is much better than Marvel's. I love arrow and the flash. I am looking forward to the villain spin off from the arrow and the flash.

I enjoyed Arrow for some time, and still do to a lesser degree but damn they take basically everything they can from Nolan Batman movies and use it. Flash on the other hand is incredibly fun, now obviously that's the character more in a nutshell but the Flash has a vast amount of cheesy villians that are fun to see come to life on the tube.

While DC does have those 2 shows and Smallville they all pale in comparison to what Netflix's Daredevil just did. Granted I'm going to assume that Daredevil had a vastly superior budget but they truly brought Frank Miller's version of Daredevil to life in just 13 episodes.

Agree. Daredevil and Carter were hits straight out of the gate unlike Agents. Agents was confused at the beginning until Winter Soldier. The conflict between hydra and shield was great. It also allowed the build up of the inhuman story.

DC got it right straight from the beginning with their TV universe.

I was a big fan of Smallville, and before that the cartoons and comics. I think Man of Steel was a good superhero movie but a bad Superman movie. While watching it I kept thinking "Superman would not have done that" or Jonathan Kent would not have said that." This new movie seems to be taking it even further. maybe it will be good but I am skeptical.

Pick up the Dark Knight Returns. It's one of the more highly revered stories in the Batman mythos. Excellent book. It's where this fight takes place. The thing about Batman is he's always got a contingency plan. I believe the Justice League animated movie "Doom" is based around this idea. And also a really fun watch.
