OT: Bars to watch the World Cup in Metro Detroit

Submitted by sarto1g on
I was wondering if any Metro D wolverines had had a good experience at any local bars while watching the USMNT on Monday. Just looking for something more than watching the game as background noise. Any suggestions for Sunday?

My first thought:  How could this be OT?

My second thought:  Cool, I'd love to watch the world cup in metro Detroit with Blake Bars!

My third thought:  How does OP know this?  Did Bars tweet it?

My fourth thought:  ...I didn't get enough sleep last night.

"Offensive Tackle (Football News!) Blake Bars is watching the World Cup".

It was one of those situations where I teemed with excitement over my potentially witty remark, only to be beaten to the punch. Touchee, young man, you have defeated the Space Coyote. You now possess a voice as soothing at Johnny Cash and an ability to act as a spirit guide. Congrats!

I'm doing my summer internship for grad school here in DC and the World Cup experience has been incredible. Walked outside of my apartment the other morning and there was a group of Mexicans and a group of Brazilians on opposite sides of the street yelling at each other. It was incredibly fun to watch. I keep thinking every day how lame it would be to be back in Ann Arbor/Detroit right now for this incredible experience. That said, I know of a coffee shop in Clawson on 14 mile that is all about soccer. My guess is that place gets packed and is a blast to watch it at. It's on the south side of the street right by Main.

in Michigan. I work at UM and it is as diverse as you can get. Brazilians, Arabs, Mexicans, Costa Ricans, Guatemaulans, Ethiopans....to name a few.

When it comes to soccer all of the US is lame. I'd much rather watch the WC in Brazil or Europe than here. Those people actually know the game unlike Yanquis.

Was going to mention the Red Fox as well. In downtown Royal Oak on top of a tex-mex joint that is rather subpar. But the Fox is a nice place to get some shepherds pie and watch the soccer match. They show UEFA matches throughout the year as well, sort of the local soccer bar.

is always a good spot to watch soccer. Did not play with Blake Bars but played soccer with Ali Haji-Sheikh. West Quad owned South Quad back in the day!

Thomas mcgee's in Detroit. I got there two hours early for the USA game, and it was already packed full of AO hooligans. It's a solid bar, lots of tv's. But only go if you want the hooligan experience. Red Fox Pub in royal oak is a great bar for the game. Lots of tvs, solid bar food, cool scene.

In Detroit will show the game, maybe with sound if there's no tigers game on, but there won't be many USA watchers there. They are pretty much only tigers bars this time of year, which is shitty on their part. Haven't tried bdubs but I'd assume it's better

Surprised to see no one has said The Claddagh in Livonia yet. There were easily over 300 for USA-Algeria in 2010 and for Monday's game as well, it was great a great atmosphere.  They've got plenty of TVs and a big projection screen if you're lucky enough to get a centrally located seat.
