Submitted by Michigan248 on

Title says it all, two lions on back to back covers with denard getting one on NCAA. It just shows what great fans we have up here as all 3 were won by fan votes Here's a link to the cover art

Ya buddies!  Good for him.  It's amazing he is still getting the attention and accolades so many years (decades) later.  A lot of respect out there for this man.

The State has both covers locked up and could not have picked two better representatives of the game of football. Humility and toughness were displayed by both.

First time the same team has been on the cover two years n a row, and Barry was on the cover of NCAA last year. Our state is well repped on the covers of football games!

This is great. Barry was always one of the most talented, and humblest players ever to play. Pretty sure he invented 'act like you've been there before' reactions after touchdowns

Best running back ever to play IMO

Even after years of ineptitude from the Lions, Barry was always worth watching. Everytime the offense had the ball, I just couldn't pull my eyes away from the action for fear of missing just one of his runs. He was an amazing talent, and could create plays out of nothing more than any other player in recent memory. I still miss watching him.

The greatest runner of all time makes the cover almost 15 seasons after he retired.  Amazing and a fitting tribute.

OT... Barry used to come in to restaurant that I woked in after college back in the 90s.  I would speak with him from time to time. He was nice and pretty reserved guy.  One night, he went over to my girlfriend at the time who was a hostess...and chatted her up for about 20 solid minutes...really turning on the charm.  After he left I asked her what he said and she said that he was just asking what she did outside of work etc...uh huh... nice moves Barry but he didnt score that night.

When they played at the silverdome the team would order food from my step moms catering business for meetings and stuff like that. At the time I was like 10 years old and Barry was a god to me, he would chit chat with me on occasions always a nice polite man. About a year after he retired I ran into him at finish line, he was buying his wife a few pairs of Nike shoxs, I approached him at the counter and nodded to my shock he remembered who I was, we started bsing and I got up the courage to ask him of the Miami rumors were true, he simply stated I love it here in Detroit I'd never leave this city or the organization, I retired because it was my time to hang it up and I will never look back. Simply a class act on and off the field

You can never go wrong with a 10-time Pro Bowl and 10-time All-Pro selection on the cover of Madden, not to mention the image of someone who was the NFL rushing champion four times as well. I still have my Sports Illustrated Kids poster of Barry Sanders, which has him standing with an actual Lion. I recall not being terribly cocerned, however, for I knew Barry could outrun it if necessary, he was that elusive.

I was watching the unveiling last night, and they were going through Barry highlights and an announcer stated,

"When God created Barry Sanders, even he didn't know what he made."

I thought that was the best decription of a player I have ever heard. Barry was something special, and while he may have retired before he could officially go down as the best ever, in my heart he always will be.

its just a shame that the perpetual Lions ineptitude forced him out of the game early.  If the Lions had ever mangaed to put together an average line or an above average QB, Barry would have shattered every rushing record by a mile.  Imagine him on Dallas instead of Emmit....
