I find this especially relevant with the Alabama recruit being urged to transfer schools in order to be eligible being in the news as well.
I cannot say that I am at all surprised that this is going on in the SEC. I am highly skeptical that Auburn did not know that his transcript was tampered with, or at least have some sort of inkling that something was fishy. IMO this kind of neglect for education is worse than paying players. Perhaps not from an even playing field stand point but certainly from a moral one.
