OT: Attn Columbus MGoBloggers looking for Fun Charity Event

Submitted by UAUM on

Dear Columbus MGoBloggers,*

I'm writing to invite you to the Second Annual Berkshire Triathlon benefiting Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  It is a non-competitive sprint distance triathlon followed by a BBQ at our home.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 8th.  A $50 check written out to "Nationwide Children’s Hospital" (which is 100% tax deductible) gets you into the triathlon, a dri-fit shirt, all you can eat City BBQ, and complimentary refreshments (including adult beverages).  The swim is at Devon Pool, the bike is up the Olentangy Trail, and the run is at Beekman Park.  For all of the info, please visit www.berkshiretri.org.

You can do the triathlon solo, only do part of it, or you can do it as a team of 2 or 3 people.  We are also looking for a few volunteers to help out on “race day.”  So if that’s your thing, just let us know.

Last year's event was super fun and we hope that you can join us this year.  Feel free to pass this info along to your friends.  Please email [email protected] by May 23rd to secure your spot.

* Apologies if this is not board worthy, but there seems to be a sizeable Columbus community on the blog and  I figured this might be of some interest to them.  Plus, we're trying to grow the event and its "off-season" on the board.

What a great opportunity, hopefully it is a wild success.

Another fun but less benevolent activity... spontaneous get together for a wolverine wizz in Mirror Lake.

Thanks for your work to support this great hospital.  My first daughter was there for 3 weeks and we had a great experience considering the circumstances.  I'd love to participate, but I fear it would turn into a run for the local EMT's.  Maybe this can be my goal to get my lazy butt in shape for next year!

Hope your situation went well too.  It was great even though our daughter was 7 weeks early.  I can't complain because there were many families in much worse situations than ours. Their facilities were so much nicer than OSU hospital, which aren't bad by any means (it hurts to say that a little).  She was born at OSU and transferred to children's after two days.  The nursing staff there are top notch too.  Even their construction projects are pretty well organized.  It really is comforting to know they are only an hour away in an emergency.

Everything about this sounds great (especially the charity and the City BBQ), and I would normally be running on the Olentangy Trail on a Saturday, anyway, but that particular Saturday I'll be up in Grand Haven, er, getting married.

Sounds like an awesome event, hope it goes really well!  I'll pass this along to my Columbus frisbee friends, some of them seem like the triathlonning type.

Yeah, probably my biggest complaint about ohio is that there are no decent lakes.  Especially in contrast with the gorgeous west coast of the Great Lake State where I'm from.  Couldn't imagine a nicer place to get married than Grand Haven in the summer!

Thats great of you to do.  While I fortunately do not live in that sewer, it is nice to see those who are brave enough to live there are doing some good.
