OT: Artists who you just can't listen to
Because of Darius Morris's top 5?
Actually no. My cousin posted one of her songs on my fb wall, and I responded by deleting him as a friend.
I don't know if I have a specific artist might be Drizzy Drake but he can flow though. Nicki can actually flow too, I don't listen to her or the radio but I have heard a couple joints she was on. There has only been a couple female rappers I would ever listen to spit. Eve, Kim, Queen, Foxy maybe. Nicki spit harder than all them no doubt. I like this thread it provoked some thought. Have a great day.
Of the vast majority of her music, but her verse in Monster (by Kanye) really makes the song.
i freaking hate pop music and especially pop rap. Bahamadia is the best female rapper hands down. She may look like a mack truck hit her, but she has the dopest flow out there for female mc's. Kanye, drake, jay z, wayne, all suck in my book. Give me Gangstarr, Wu-Tang, Jedi mind Tricks, Above the Law, any day over these clowns.
Do you listen to the arrangement and production at all?
Because you just called the production of RZA, possibly the best in hip-hop ever, to Lil Wayne rapping over recycled beats.
I'd say that's one pretty fucking substantial way how listening to Wu-Tang is different from a Lil Wayne mixtape.
Also, Ghostface is roughly 100 times the lyricist.
You're under the misconception that Ghostface didn't drop an amazing album in the last 6 months?
Not to mention Fishscale being insanely good. Shakey Dog is probably my favorite hip hop song ever.
Just want to get your opinion on Bad Meets Evil - Hell: The Sequel. So far I can't stop listening to it.
agree that Dre is washed up now. I have been saying that for years, but it is like that with most hip hop nowadays. Even Wu-tang isn't as good as they used to be. But their older music is timeless. I can pick up Only Built for cuban linx or Liquid Swords and still listen to it from front to back. I could name you at least a hundred great albums from 94, today I can name you a handful at best.
heart over my Lil Wayne sucks comment, but if Lil Wayne came out in 94, dude would be laughed off the stage. Any rapper who makes a song like Lollipop should be denied respect forever. Wu-tang had 6 classic albums from Enter the 36 chamber to Meth, Raekwon, ODB, Ghostface and GZA's solo. What is classic about the Carter....nothing! I don't like a majority of these rappers today because they put the cheddar above the craft and the music suffers because of it. As far as southern hip hop, these new cats suck. Try listening to UGK's first couple of albums, Scarface The Diary, Odd Squad. That is dope shit there.
Think that Jay Hov belongs to pop rap then you know very little about rap music.
is just not my type of shit. Reasonable doubt is no doubt a classsic, but everything else he has put out is just not my flavor. Saying I know very little about hip hop because I don't dickride a POS like Jay Z, shows what a ignorant moron you are.
You've got good taste. Bahamdia is one of favorites and it is a travesty that Above The Law (or DJ Quik for that matter) don't get their props for being the pioneers of G-funk while that poser Dr. Dre gets all the glory.
Pioneers is what ATL are for sure. Uncle Sam's Curse is hands down the greatest G-Funk record out there. 187um's production is sick. Dj Quik is def in my top 5 producers. I love that Jazz Funk sound.
I still find that Vanilla Ice fella to be pretty neat-o...is he still around?
+1 for mentioning JMT... And I really liked Paz's Season Of The Assassin. His album with Ill Bill was disappointing though... Although "The Final Call" and "Splatterfest" were worth the price of admission (the first verse of Final Call is an all time favorite).
Stoupe is one of the greats as far as the beats are concerned and Vinnie's solo was heat. Stoupe just released this album with this chick Lorrie Doriza called Vespertina. I saw them live in NY a month ago and they blew my mind.
Listing the obvious: Creed, Nickelback
Friend had a few tickets to a Nickelback concert nearby...I thought it was bad when he thought I'd attend such an event in the first place...but then he expected me to pay??...I wasn't sure if I was more upset that he asked or embarrassed for him
as Rascal Flatts is country. My idea of rock is Zeppelin, and when I think of country I hear bluegrass. When I expect one or the other and what I get is Nickelback and Rascal Flatts instead it causes me intense pain.
Nickelback? More like here is your ticket back.
Coldy Play and U2 are on the same level of terrible for me.
The Beatles? Those guys ruined music /Beavis and Butt-head
It cracks me up when people hate on the Beatles. You can trace influences from just about everyone's favorite bands back to them. They were operating on a whole other level.
any boy band or Disney/Nick creation
Black Eyed Peas
EDIT: And I was reminded by my girlfriend blaring it on her computer... I also can't stand Lady Gaga. Or most of Glee's remakes
nikki minaj is sexy
she looks like a female Humpty Hump from digital underground.
Getting Dongpunched is quite an image.
Rebecca Black..she may only have one song but it is one song too many
Look on the bright side, she took it off youtube! Just think, it's like it never existed!
Lady Gaga, kesha, all the like will cause me to change the dial instantly
I hear if you play Ke$ha backwards you can hear Satan talking.
Even worse, if you play it forwards you can hear Ke$ha singing.
You use singing where I think you meant "holy shit my ears are bleeding."
That is all
"Dang Boy! Why you gotta be gettin' all jealous Yo? (Wink, point, fingers in hair - wink)"
If you say this sentence in a high-pitched Canadian accent you can't help but agree with a2.
The twang kills me. Glass shards shoved into my ears is a great visual of how I feel when I hear country music.
No offense meant to all the good folk who love country music. I know Radiohead (my favorite) isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea.
Accidentally had iPod on shuffle and my morning alarm was Myxamatosis (sp?).
Worst. Wake-Up. Ever.
Even Patsy Cline? Or Johnny Cash?
So I put Johnny Cash into the Folk/Blues genre since I can then still justify my hatred of the complete country genre.
I love the smell of rationalization in the morning...you know...that making shit up as you go smell....smells like victory.
Johnny Cash is a legend...he transcends the country genre. And really, I don't think his style fits perfectly into any single genre...its some mixture of country with blues/folk, rock, and even some gospel-styles.
I mostly hate country...all the new stuff at least. It's twangy and whiny, makes me think I'm listening to a howling dog rather than music. The only country I can tolerate is the older or classic style of country. Cash is probably the only country artist for which I can say I actively appreciate and listen to.
You might also like Dylan's country period (John Wesley Harding, etc...). Though to my ears it's not full blown country. Not enough twang, and too much brains.
