OT: Arizona Cardinals hire first female to be a coach
You are a very naive person if you truly do not think that public relations is not at least partially behind this hire.
Its not about being naive, your premise just doesn't make any sense.
What the hell do the Cardinals have to do with Ray Rice beating up his girlfiend while playing for the Ravens?
I'm sure that the Cardinals recognizes the positive attention of having the first female NFL coach -- but that's an entirely different premise than the idea that the Cardinals somehow hired her in order to rehabilitate the image of the entire NFL due to actions of players of other teams.
The Cardinals is a team that wants to win football games. PR aside, they are not going to hire someone as a coach (even interim coach), just to make up for some other team's fuck ups.
If this is a PR move, it's not going to work. As a woman who likes football, I could care less whether a woman is coaching or not. If they're going to change perceptions, stop the domestic abuse and violence towards women. Hiring a woman coach isn't going to make me feel better about the misogynistic behavior.

I can totally see a certain female demographic rallying around this. For me, personally, it doesn't further "our cause" at all. Women don't need to be hired because they're women; they need to be hired because they'll do a good job. And she could do a great job - she seems to have impressive credentials. But her gender will probably always precede her performance.

I doubt very much that the NFL would be so foolish to hire a noob.
That's pretty much what they just did.

When Harbaugh was putting his staff together, was there anyone discussing where Drevno or Durkin or even Mattison had played?
I don't remember one, and the only reason I know that/where they did play is because I just looked it up.
How about Jay Harbaugh?
That's exactly my point. It's not an analogy, it's a claim that if you can coach, nobody cares one iota what your 40 time was twenty years ago or how many tackles you had at Wisconsin- La Crosse.
Jedd Fisch never played and I learned that tonight (h/t to Mr. Miggle). Almost all of the talk, IIRC, was how Harbaugh had managed to land a guy who was an NFL OC immediately prior to taking the WR job.
The list of successful players who are also successful coaches is pretty short. Being a good player doesn't mean being a good coach.
Instead of guaranteeing it, how about you prove it. With some data. Quantify your claims. That's what makes MGoBlog different from your average college sports blog.
Nevermind that just because someone with playing experience might or might not have a higher chance at success than those without, it isn't a requirement, so your line of argument here is pretty dumb.
This is just a theory, but it might have something to do with the fact that she already has experience coaching the same position in professional football.

Additionally, while this is certainly no reason for her to back down from the job, I'd be concerned about the potential lack of respect she'll get from some of the players. You'd like to think they're all professionals, and I'm sure most of them are, but I wouldn't be surprised if she meets some resistance this season.

No matter the position, still very cool. Wish her the best of luck.

Agreed. Women are qualified enough to coach football but it's going to be hard to find a female who has the experience to do it compared to sports like baseball or basketball where there's a female equivalent in playing it.
People are not always hired for qualifications. She might have had a dynamite interview or sterling references from people the coaching staff respected.
Unless you're in the Cardinals' heads, any speculation about whether it's simply a PR move is only speculation.
Her ten years of professional playing experience, her years of coaching experience in professional ball, and her PhD in psychology.
That you assume she's utterly inqualified without doing the barest bit of research says some things, but none of them are good, and all of them are about you.
Wish I could upvote this post.

Given the oppurtunity to inform people of how smart she is or how athletic she was in high school. You choose to degrade her by calling her a chick and tell everybody your best friend dated a women who used to be hot. Thanks for the cool story bro.
Sorry, I dont consider calling her a chick to be a downgrade, and knowing her, she wouldn't think its a downgrade either. I wouldn't think youre downgrading me if you call me a guy. But as far as your question and to answer some of the other questions on this board:
She was and i'm assuming is still very smart. Like I said, she went to boston college and got a doctorate.
No she didn't play football in high school allthough one girl did. However, for those of you that say she has no experiance you're wrong. She played many seasons with a womens semi pro team, and no its not the lingerire league. She won two gold medals as a member of team usa. Afer that she played and coached with the Texas Revolution which is a professional mens indoor football team. And she was a linebackers coach with that team. So i'm guessing she probably knows more about the game of football then most of the people on this forum. Sure, it may still, at least in part be a PR stunt. And sure, its likely this job doesn't last that long. However, good for her. She is an incredible person and she deserves everything she has and/ or gets.
you want to refer to her as a chick when you see her while sitting with your "boys" at a bar is one thing, calling her a "chick" in the context of her professional career is, well, inappropriate at best. The fact that you don't see the difference is problematic.
So you think she's hot and a cool chick. Great info.
I dont see men weaseling into QVC, the bachlorette, the view or other totally female spaces.
Feminization of America and the American male.
