OT: Arena showing the boxing match $35

Not sure if they are taking reservations, might want to call ahead but I heard that they are charging $35 cover to get in and watch the fight.

PPV should be dead.

Because you can watch anything of note that's on PPV, on an online stream for free.

I also think the comment you're replying to overestimates how many people are going to value some fraction of $100 more than getting a (relatively) hassle free experience. It's not exactly the same thing but looking at the music industry it seems like paying for content is here to stay, massive price correction nonwithstanding.

I'm headed out to watch the fight tonight. I hadn't really planned on watching, but friends are going, prices are reasonable and the beer and wings are awesome.

I really don't think me paying $15 and bringing a 12-pack is that big of a deal.

Another friend is going $15 and wings, another $15 and pizza, and so on...TVs are 60-70 inches these days and most of us have one or know someone that has one.

It's really not that big of a deal to me. Shit to go to the movies it would cost me more because that's a 2nd ticket. The guys are covering the costs tonight and girlfriends/wives are welcome to join.

If you don't think those companies would fleece you given the opportunity you must not be paying attention to Comcast et al. But yes on your general point, most people will pay for the convenience, higher quality picture, and the idea of a clean conscience.

I read an HBO executive saying they could hit $400mm in PPV revenue. They don't have the same opportunities for commercials that team sports do, and according to Forbes, the combined ads for the 2012 Super Bowl were "only" ~$245mm (whenever Forbes did their list that was the highest grossing).

maybe if ur just sitting around by urself, but if you have guests it's no good since u'll be bouncing from stream to stream as they get shut down, not to mention the lag from all the people on it...there are a lot of fights leading up to it. if bars are charging that much for cover then ur better off just biting the bullet and hope some of ur buddies pitch in.
