OT: Are the New York Rangers for Real?

Submitted by WingsNWolverines on
I'm shocked how New York has taken over this game right now but I am even more shocked that the Rangers are actually awesome right now? For their fan base sake I hope this team isn't peaking too early. The Rangers are never a cup contender style team. At least not lately.

Die hard Rangers fan here... They are absolutely for real. They aren't a dynamic offensive team by any means but are one of the best defensive teams in the league. They roll 3 above average lines and have on of the best goalies on the planet. They are so consistent and disciplined it's amazing. They are eerily similar to the Bruins. Built for the playoffs, for sure.

Definitely. Three very good lines, one of the top group of defensemen in the nhl (which goes 8 deep in case of injuries) and the best goalie in the league. As Torts keeps saying, you don't win anything in January, but if they are playing like this come playoff time the league should be on notice.

Nutz! They blow and are in the East. Penguins got lucky and the rest blow. The Campbell Conference will crush those bitches. For you Ranger fucks the Cambell Conference was Detroit's old conference name. NY Rangers suck!

Hey everyone look at the savvy comment from the little Ranger bitch. Wow you won a cup in the last 50 years with beatass Messier. You are the reason people hate New York. I don't hate the city, but many feel it is full of arrogant pricks. So fuck you and the really shitty eastern conference.

You like a shitty team so you pick on me. I don't pick on those that rip the Lions. The reason is because I have enough sense to know they are probably correct. Until the Rangers make the conference finals in the weak east just be quiet please.

Your hatred and dislike of the Rangers is amazing. They have been an irrelevant, middling team for about 16 years. For a NY team, they get no pub in virtually any media locales. Perhaps your enmity towards them developed because they violated someone close to you.

I'll take the Red Wings that have beaten the Blackhawks twice in a row now. Seriously though, recent Red Wings and Hawks hockey has been the best non-playoff hockey I've seen played.

That said, I do think the Rangers are for real this year. Especially when the Penguins and the Capitals, the two recent perennial powers of the East, are having down years. Don't know if I can see NYR taking Boston, though.

I'll believe it when they do anything in the playoffs.  This team has a nasty habit of getting everyone's hopes up before falling flat on its face in the postseason,  Since 1994, they have only gotten past the 1st round of the playoffs once, despite coming in as a high seed at times.

I'm happy for Carl, but Idk how far they can go. The west is sooooo much stronger than the east, so the rangers may be a bit over-valued....that being said, if the west keeps beating up on itself, whoever wins the east may face a battered and bruised western conference champion in the finals

The rangers had 50 hits against the bruins with 27 alone in the 1st period...There are teams out west with more skill but the Rangers will outwork everyone in the league to make up for their talent

if they can win in the playoffs.  Tortorella is a profane version of Larry Brown; he certainly has the ability to move a team into the playoffs and he has his name on the Stanley Cup.  Like Brown, though, I think he starts to wear on a team over time.  They certianly are firing on both sides of the puck this year, and with the exception of Boston, no one else in the East seems deadly -- Philly, Pittsburgh and Washington are all havaing problems of one kind or another.
