OT: Anyone here live in Vegas?
So I'm considering a job that would take me to Vegas to live. I've lived both here (Detroit area) and NYC, but not anywhere in that area, and I have two questions for anyone that lives out that way. First, how do you like it? Second, and most importantly, will I be able to catch every one of our games on TV (EDIT: at home, via cable or satellite) or will I have to settle for the interwebs (EDIT: or casinos)? It would be literally intolerable to me to miss even one game. Thanks in advance.
I don't live in Vegas, but have a friend that does. He loves it. He says he always has something to do if he's ever bored. Haven't heard too many complaints other than all the tourists sometimes. You do get nice "perks" if you're a local. And trust me, they know who you are.
Second, think about the football game question for a real long time. .... You'd be in a city that lives on sports betting. Do you really think you'll not be able to get the game? If the cable packages don't offer it, just head to your closest sports betting casino. Heck even put a Franklin on the game while you're at it.
I need to watch it either at home (preferable because I can rewind, scream, etc) or at a bar with sound. Watching one of 30 screens at Bally's or whatever isn't the best.
Once you move out there you should really give the Mandalay Bay's sports betting room a try. It does have about 50 screens but the room is huge, each of the screens is significantly bigger than anything you'd be watching at home, the chairs are insanely comfortable, you dont HAVE to bet to be there (they try to entice you to do so but wont kick you out) and you can be relatively loud.
That said, about the "screaming" if you're really like the Angry German Kid from youtube then it wouldn't work out. Cheering/Rooting/Loud Disappointment wont be a problem though.
can you listen to the game in those settings? I would like the atmosphere, but I really need to hear the announcers if possible.
To be honest I'm not sure, since announcers generally annoy me these days. I'm not a Vegas local so when I go I'm usually with a couple of buddies and sit near the back so we can talk/mess around/drink without disturbing the "serious" gamblers.
That said, you should still give it a try since it's completely free. It's right on the strip and if you show up and dont like it you only wasted about 5 minutes of your time.
They usually have the sound on for the biggest game going on at the time.
But I have buried my fair share of dead hookers in the Vegas desert. Great town for that.

With the BTN I'm sure every game is on TV. I live in SoCal and before the BTN I would usually miss 1 or 2 games in the OOC schedule against the directional schools. Now with BTN I get every game at my home. I'm sure it is the same in LV. You will just need to make sure you sign up with a provider that has BTN as part of its lineup which may mean you have to get DirectTV or DISH. For this sir, BTN is a great deal.
hello..i happen to have been living in vegas for the past 10 years but grew up entirely in michigan. the BTN is a blessing because you are not handcuffed to be in a casino to hopefully catch the game. michigan games are not always easy to find televised in a casino. vegas is decidedly USC territory and it can get really annoying in the sportsbook as a wolverine. we love it here...the weather..no taxes...games end early so you have the rest of the day free...having said that, i am taking my 10 y/o son to his first michigan game this season!

I've lived in the New York area (North Jersey) and Michigan prior to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is by far the best of the three places in my opinion. I would take 115 degrees over 5 degrees every day. We have a few tough months in the summer where you stay inside quite a bit but the nights aren't that bad even on the hottest days. There are nice suburbs with good schools on the east and west sides of town depending on where your office will be. The housing prices have hit rock bottom so you can get a great house for pretty cheap right now. We have low property taxes and no state tax so you get to keep a little more of your paycheck. I tell people that the difference between Michigan and Las Vegas for me was that in Michigan, I expected the weather to be crappy almost every day and in Las Vegas, I expect the weather to be good almost every day.
For sports, you are going to love the Pacific Time Zone. Local cable does not have BTN but just get Direct TV. I don't gamble and hate watching games at a Sports Book for the reasons you mentioned. There is a local Michigan Club that watches games at a bar if you want to go out of the house to see the games.
I don't go near the Strip much so the tourists don't bother me, they just keep the economy going here. There's lots of stuff to do besides gambling. The valley has really matured over the past 15 years as a ton of restaurants and stores have opened up. You can pretty much get anything or do anything.
I can absolutely echo the fact that having grown up in EST and now living in PST that sports are so much better living in PST. Sports in general are usually completely over for the day by 9 or 10pm. Monday night football is usually over around 8:30pm! It's an amazing advantage in watching sports in general if you have to get up for work the next morning.
As far as college football Saturdays, Michigan games are routinely on at 10AM and you can watch the late afternoon games and still have time to go out Saturday night. I can't believe more people don't talk about the advantages of living in PST and watching sports.
The only real downside is if you're a Premiership fan. Those games are on ridiculously early.

No) But I want. I'm a fan of different casino games and I'm sure if I will be here I will visit casino:) Now I play only online, on these websites from aussielowdepositcasino.com, poker and video slots are my favorite games! And what about you, do you like gambling?
