OT - Anybody play poker at the Heidelberg?

Submitted by johnvand on

Completely OT, but I've been thinking about checking out the Poker room at the Heidelberg in downtown AA.

Has anybody played there? Good experience? Is there a decent number of people playing?

Thanks.

But I played at the bowling alley down miller next to all the car dealerships. It was pretty good, although there were a few regulars with some talent that just went to clear people out. I think they had the standard 10%, capped at $6 per pot rake. They also had weekly tourneys, but I think the rake from those was pretty generous so I tended to avoid them. If they are still doing it, it's definitely worth checking out.

As far as the Heidelberg goes though, I would like to hear some feedback because I'd consider checking it out.

I have been to the charity room in Bellmark Lanes and it was a pretty good room, got nice turnout and I cashed pretty big more than a few times. That room got nicely crowded with about 4 or 5 tables of 8 or 9 players, max buy 100$ min buy 20$. There are regulars there with deep pockets that are not afraid to play stupid so be careful, mix of locals, michigan students (either playing with Daddy's money or are online-type math guys), and drunk old men and women. Rake was 10% max 7$.

I played Hidelberg once and it was just one full table with some regulars from the closed Bellmark room, their rakes and buys are the same I believe. I must have been on my game because I walked home with about 400$ in winnings. I recommend checking it out, I hope it gets popular because when I had disposable income I would visit the Bellmark Charity room regularly to see if I could double or triple it, and it was an entertaining way to spend some time as long as you didn't bump into anyone that was just messing around to get lucky on you. I recommend buying in somewhere between 50-100$ because if you end up sitting at a table where the common pre-flop raise is 10-15$ your limiting your participation significantly.

Also, I like showing up to the rooms around 11:30-12 because IME that is when the better players have been sitting for a while and their stacks are large (few hundred), lot of money to be taken as they have knocked out the fools that have already left and their confidence is high. Let me know if you guys have any more questions, I love playing poker.. for now back to genetics.
