living there. Not sure about any Michigan fans.
I have a friend who used to live in Singapore, so I can say with almost certainty that at least one person has lived there before.
Let me know if you would like for me to smuggle you some Trident.
is key.
I've been living here for a couple of years. There is actually an alumni group here, partly because the UM b-school is fairly popular. I don't think they're particularly active, but I have been to an alumni reception with about 200 people a couple of years ago. S'pore is a great place to live. If you want to meet up and grab a Tiger, let me know, and maybe we can set something up.
awesome name
about his name. Great name...especially the timing of it, looking at when it was created.
No, no, not serious. I've been around since the haloscan days (First!), just haven't posted. But I wanted to respond to the OP, because I live in Singapore and am always happy to find people out here to talk/watch UM football.
Oh, sorry man. Yeah, it was really cool. It was maybe the third day I was in S'pore. It was at the National University. Full spread of food and drinks. And someone from the Povost's office at UM, I think, along with some profs at NUS gave a presentation. It was amazing to be halfway around the world and walk into a room full of maize and blue ties and other UM gear.

I say killing a tiger lets them bond faster.
Dude, Sweet!
I'd be down to grab a beer sometime. Where do you normally watch games? I bought a slingbox and have it up and running but i'm hoping a few of the night games can be watched locally.
Shoot me a text at 86 (denard) 1 (roh) 7

Cool. I'm in England for work at the moment, but I'll send you a text when I'm back in town. There are some great beer places around (though sadly booze is always expensive here).
Yeah I have to imagine there are a few M alumni there just bc Singapore has so many branches of US corporations

Singapore is a beautiful city, definitely a large expat crowd, especially @ the bars along Clarke Quay. Most seemed to be Brit's/Aussie's tho'.
If/when we go back, would like to stay @ the Marina Sands. The view has to be spectacular.
Shanghai has it's fair share of UM alums. So does Beijing. Michigan keeps Jointly-held campuses with Peking University in Beijing and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai. Little known fact, that accounts for UM's overreaching presence in East Asia.
It kind of sucks that people only know about the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses.
I live in Singapore and was here for the 2011 football season. The alumni group got together for a handful of games last year at a bar on Killeny Road, which I think has since shut down unfortunately. But there are definitely other Wolverines living in Singapore to watch the games with this fall.
Todd (or other Michigan fans) if you want to grab a beer (even a Tiger), send me a text at 9757.7966
Live in Korea, just across the pond more or less. Or more.
For what it's worth, some years ago I was arrested and detained in the Bangkok ariport on my way to Singapore ~ for "transporting human cargo."
At the time I didn't even know what that meant. I was released a day later and given first class to Singapore. Didn't exactly make up for it all, but in hindsight it was a fairly interesting experience. But if it were true, I would have been transporting UM fanatics and created a little community for you to watch the games with. Unfortunately for you, I was innocent.
Woo Korea! You've been here a while, eh?
Is Singapore that great to live in? All I heard from some of the people I know who have gone talked about how many laws and rules there are. Seems like it'd be nice to visit, and people living there probably have a different perspective, but that put me off. And transporting human cargo is illegal? That's some real BS.
Are the airline, railroad and busing industries aware that transporting human cargo is illegal?
Never lived in Singapore - just visited. I have friends there now who are quite happy. For me, I'd much rather go to Malaysia or especially Indonesia.
As for the human cargo... yeah, like I said, I just acted dumb b/c in fact I had no idea what the hell they were talking about. Something about my passport have a wrinkle above my photo made them think I was somehow ... I still don't know, something about illegally bringing people into the country. With my wrinkled photo passport? That human cargo couldn't fit behind my passport photo, I'm pretty sure.
My Sister in Law lives in Singapore but isn't likely to hang out watching sports. She is an early 80's M grad that unfortunately sent her kids to Penn State and Villanova :-)
Visited many moons ago, got a tattoo there.
singapore sends a lot of students to Michigan. There are usually around 150-200 Singaporeans enrolled. The alumni club in Singapore is pretty big and quite active. There are screenings for all the games downtown. That's where I watched the Nebraska and OSU games (while watching the live chat on this blog). It was a good time.
We have a fairly strong contingent of hardcore fans.
Had a beautiful time during UTL.
