I'm getting hammered for my sarcastic post. I know these kinds of news stories about Ann Arbor are considered proper "OT" material but I submit that there are a lot of people living outside of Ann Arbor don't really care about news like this. Not only that, but there's a slipperly slope when allowing posts about breaking news in Ann Arbor. When does news become "news" ??

That said, I should have kept my "mouth" shut and just moved on to the next thread . . . my bad.

Comparing a confused young kid that has committed a variety of relatively non- serious crimes to a serial killer. Nice. Your compassion knows no bounds and your argument is bullshit. Keep up the good work, and may you never have a lapse in judgement or self control because society will just laugh and judge you for throwing it all away.

See, that's where you're wrong.

I said the same things about Boo Boo as I did Winston in the early going. "What an idiot?" "How could he waste this opportunity?"

However, I think his trajectory has taken a turn for the worse, into someone who will never recover. He seemed to be grasping at straws and doing anything to get by. This doesn't seem to me to be one or two stupid decisions, but someone who's life, once on a great path, truly spiraling out of control.

To me, there is plenty to differentiate.

BooBoo is an extreme case. how many crimes has he committed? How many chances has he received from our criminal justice system?

My opinion is that if you're in jail already you probably shouldn't beat up a prison guard. It's not rocket science it's common sense.

i'm going to feel disappointed you let yourself fall off the depths of reality when you had a scholarship and have fallen to the dredges of society. nobody's campaigning for his release: they're merely disappointed at how far down he's gone into the muck after being dismissed. you seem to think people want him back or cry at his plight when, in fact, it's merely people noting how far people can fall.

It has nothing to do with the perception of the fanbase, and no one is making him out to be a martyr. Perhaps people are generally concerned for the well being of a young man that we have come to know through the football field, and therefore are aware, on a larger scale than normal, of his circumstances. It seems an unfortunate situation, doesn't it? Also, there are many supposed unintelligent people that don't commit crimes, so let's not chock it all up to natural selection due to intelligence, that's what Phrenology was for, and that theory is long gone, thankfully. Also:

Who's calling him a martyr? You think his fall from grace can somehow be him laying on the sword for Michigan football? That's what a martyr would be, if he did something and got in trouble in the name of Michigan football.

No one is saying he is a martyr. No thinks he didn't waste a prime opportunity in life. No one is saying he doesn't get what he deserves. However, we have a right to feel bad for a kid who's life has gone to the shitter after looking so promising.

Empathy does still exist in some parts of society.

You're right, Plaxico and Winston are probably just as confused or mislead or ill taught or ill equipt or coerced as Cissoko was. In general reasons for criminality are complex and although an easy answer may seem, "that kid fucked up, too bad so sad," more often than not there are numerous internal and external forces that cause deviant behavior. The "too bad so sad" is a apt analogy for the prison system, a system designed not to understand and rehabilitate, but to quarantine and separate, because, after all, they had their choice(s) and they chose the incorrect one(s). The tendency to condemn criminals (regardless of class, race, affiliation to football team) is a problematic one - albeit a predominate one in this society- because it assumes the reason(s) for their action(s) are always cut and dry. The argument is that these people failed the test of supposed morality and broke the law so "too bad so sad", no need to waste thought on them. Just an opinion, but c'mon man, is a battered women who kills her abusive husband a criminal? Did she throw her life away? The story is never a simple one, as I'm sure is the case with Cissoko, or Plaxico, or Winston. Perhaps the reasons Plaxico carried a gun in a club go beyond sheer ignorance, and perhaps it is a question about gun culture among athletes, or gun culture in America, or gun education, or lack thereof?

And at the same time feel so bad for Boo Boo because he threw his life away. You can't have it both ways either:

A: They are all troubled and we should feel bad for all of them

or:

B: They are all idiots let's laugh at them.

Makes us look like hypocrites. I'm actually C. I never think it's funny and I don't feel sorry for them.

I may think it's funny how coaches deal with situations (or absurd ridiculous) but the players should be held accountable for their actions.

Did cissoko screw up? Yes. Did he deserve to be punished? Yes. Is it sad that he threw his life away? Sure in that he wasted his life. But you'll never see me feeling sorry for people who make bad decisions because what about all of the other people in the world who make the right decisions? (or at least not the wrong ones?).

i think most people are saying it's a horrible shame and demonstrates wasted potential. nobody's sending him smokes and cards in jail while counting down the days til he gets out. i'd challenge you to find an individual who went from the top to the bottom so quickly - plax will get out and go right back into the NFL. cissoko is done, not passing jail, not collecting $200.

I totally agree with you. Most people just post crap like that to look good. Honestly I could give a fuck if he changes his life around. It doesn't affect me either way. Unless of course you want to talk about my tax dollars paying for his incarceration.

If the security cameras show a sudden inperceivable blur flashing into the vault and back out of the vault, leaving a trail papers blowing across the floor, I'm going to be very worried about our quarterback situation....
