I'm getting hammered for my sarcastic post. I know these kinds of news stories about Ann Arbor are considered proper "OT" material but I submit that there are a lot of people living outside of Ann Arbor don't really care about news like this. Not only that, but there's a slipperly slope when allowing posts about breaking news in Ann Arbor. When does news become "news" ??
That said, I should have kept my "mouth" shut and just moved on to the next thread . . . my bad.
October 28th, 2010 at 11:02 AM ^
but the title indicates that it happened in AA. If you don't care as much as you say you don't, don't read it. Some people still live in and around AA, and may be interested.
October 28th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
not to mention the school we follow is IN AA.
October 28th, 2010 at 11:26 AM ^
Or have family in AA.
October 28th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
I see your point, and I don't really have a huge problem with this being posted, but isn't AA news what annarbor.com is for?

you just stop being a dick/trollish?
October 28th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Watch it with the name-calling, tough guy. Make a well-reasoned argument as to why I suck, but don't resort to immature and inappropriate name-calling. Not cool.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
Just because you got beat up as a kid you have to act like a baby? Sheesh.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:02 PM ^

Man, I feel bad for Boo Boo. There is a lot more going on in that kid's head than just some kid who gets in trouble a lot. His life just spun out of control so fast on him. I hope he gets back on his feet sometime soon.
October 28th, 2010 at 11:14 AM ^
A d players/people who fuck up.

He fucked up. Next you're going to tell me "I feel so bad for Charles Manson he didn't mean to do it he's just misunderstood poor guy".

Booboo had it all. He was a scholarship athlete getting everything paid for at a top 25 university. Excuse me if I do boo hoo him fucking up his life.

In sum: too bad so sad.

Glen Winston or plaxico? Where's the sympathy for those guys! They are just as confused!
October 28th, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
Also a good point. When a Buckeye or a Spartan does the same stuff it's hilarious. When a Wolverine does it, it's just so sad.
So hypocritical.
October 28th, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
See, that's where you're wrong.
I said the same things about Boo Boo as I did Winston in the early going. "What an idiot?" "How could he waste this opportunity?"
However, I think his trajectory has taken a turn for the worse, into someone who will never recover. He seemed to be grasping at straws and doing anything to get by. This doesn't seem to me to be one or two stupid decisions, but someone who's life, once on a great path, truly spiraling out of control.
To me, there is plenty to differentiate.
October 28th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
Let's just call a spade a spade. Dude is obviously not intelligent. Let's not make him a martyr because it makes our fanbase look stupid.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:21 PM ^
you're on a crusade on this. any time anyone so much as brings up an arrest you throw this card down.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
BooBoo is an extreme case. how many crimes has he committed? How many chances has he received from our criminal justice system?
My opinion is that if you're in jail already you probably shouldn't beat up a prison guard. It's not rocket science it's common sense.
October 28th, 2010 at 5:44 PM ^
i'm going to feel disappointed you let yourself fall off the depths of reality when you had a scholarship and have fallen to the dredges of society. nobody's campaigning for his release: they're merely disappointed at how far down he's gone into the muck after being dismissed. you seem to think people want him back or cry at his plight when, in fact, it's merely people noting how far people can fall.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
It has nothing to do with the perception of the fanbase, and no one is making him out to be a martyr. Perhaps people are generally concerned for the well being of a young man that we have come to know through the football field, and therefore are aware, on a larger scale than normal, of his circumstances. It seems an unfortunate situation, doesn't it? Also, there are many supposed unintelligent people that don't commit crimes, so let's not chock it all up to natural selection due to intelligence, that's what Phrenology was for, and that theory is long gone, thankfully. "Let's not make him a martyr because it makes our fanbase look stupid."
I think you're already doing a good job of making our fanbase look stupid by yourself.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:56 PM ^
Who's calling him a martyr? You think his fall from grace can somehow be him laying on the sword for Michigan football? That's what a martyr would be, if he did something and got in trouble in the name of Michigan football.
No one is saying he is a martyr. No thinks he didn't waste a prime opportunity in life. No one is saying he doesn't get what he deserves. However, we have a right to feel bad for a kid who's life has gone to the shitter after looking so promising.
Empathy does still exist in some parts of society.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:08 PM ^
You're right, Plaxico and Winston are probably just as confused or mislead or ill taught or ill equipt or coerced as Cissoko was. In general reasons for criminality are complex and although an easy answer may seem, "that kid fucked up, too bad so sad," more often than not there are numerous internal and external forces that cause deviant behavior. The "too bad so sad" is a apt analogy for the prison system, a system designed not to understand and rehabilitate, but to quarantine and separate, because, after all, they had their choice(s) and they chose the incorrect one(s). The tendency to condemn criminals (regardless of class, race, affiliation to football team) is a problematic one - albeit a predominate one in this society- because it assumes the reason(s) for their action(s) are always cut and dry. The argument is that these people failed the test of supposed morality and broke the law so "too bad so sad", no need to waste thought on them. Just an opinion, but c'mon man, is a battered women who kills her abusive husband a criminal? Did she throw her life away? The story is never a simple one, as I'm sure is the case with Cissoko, or Plaxico, or Winston. Perhaps the reasons Plaxico carried a gun in a club go beyond sheer ignorance, and perhaps it is a question about gun culture among athletes, or gun culture in America, or gun education, or lack thereof?
October 28th, 2010 at 1:33 PM ^
And at the same time feel so bad for Boo Boo because he threw his life away. You can't have it both ways either:
A: They are all troubled and we should feel bad for all of them
or:
B: They are all idiots let's laugh at them.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
My point was that some version of your choice A should be exercised. Not necessarily always feeling bad for the person, but understanding circumstances surrounding actions so that your choice B doesn't occur.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
Makes us look like hypocrites. I'm actually C. I never think it's funny and I don't feel sorry for them.

I may think it's funny how coaches deal with situations (or absurd ridiculous) but the players should be held accountable for their actions.

Did cissoko screw up? Yes. Did he deserve to be punished? Yes. Is it sad that he threw his life away? Sure in that he wasted his life. But you'll never see me feeling sorry for people who make bad decisions because what about all of the other people in the world who make the right decisions? (or at least not the wrong ones?).
October 28th, 2010 at 12:16 PM ^
I completely agree. Some people are calling his downfall a "tragedy".
Katrina was a tragedy. Robbing delivery guys and beating up prison guards is being an idiot.
October 28th, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
When a teenager turns to a gang and then gets killed how that is sad.

But to feel bad for someone who robs people, deals drugs, goes to jail and then beats up a prison guard.. I'm sorry that's serial stupidity. That's just natural selection.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
i think most people are saying it's a horrible shame and demonstrates wasted potential. nobody's sending him smokes and cards in jail while counting down the days til he gets out. i'd challenge you to find an individual who went from the top to the bottom so quickly - plax will get out and go right back into the NFL. cissoko is done, not passing jail, not collecting $200.
October 28th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
I don't think this is the only incident ever. Remember Tennessee last year? Miami?
October 28th, 2010 at 5:45 PM ^
but few committed 2-3 in a series of 8 months that took them from probation to misdemeanor w/jail time to felony in so short a period i don't believe
October 28th, 2010 at 3:58 PM ^
I totally agree with you. Most people just post crap like that to look good. Honestly I could give a fuck if he changes his life around. It doesn't affect me either way. Unless of course you want to talk about my tax dollars paying for his incarceration.

If the security cameras show a sudden inperceivable blur flashing into the vault and back out of the vault, leaving a trail papers blowing across the floor, I'm going to be very worried about our quarterback situation....

Video camera's usually only shoot at 32 FPS, far too slow to catch Denard may or may not be doing on a daily basis. He'd be in and out between frames 1 & 2.

lol. I used to live on Golfside and in the span of a week there was an armed robbery at the Arby's and a gas station. One of which turned fatal. Not to mention the crackies that constantly roamed the area scurrying from tree to tree.
