OT: The Ann Arbor Marathon

Submitted by KingsWolverine on
Any other fellow MGoBloggers running tomorrow? There's a 5k, half, and full marathon and was curious if anyone else was participating. My father-in-law, brother-in-law, and I are all doing the half-marathon, and my wife and son are doing the 5k. I've never ran this particular race before, but it should be pretty fun right??? So IF there is anyone else running or you know of friends or family running, good luck!!

Did the half marathon last year, and I'll be running it again tomorrow. They completely changed the course from last year so it should be interesting.

I did a half at the University of Illinois a couple months ago.  The finish line was the 50 yd line of the football stadium.  I may or may not have taken a leak on the "Illinois" in the end zone markings...

But best of luck to all those participating tommorrow in AA.   PR's for you all!

I did ironman wisconsin in 2010. It runs through camp Randall twice. Both times I screamed go blue as loud as I could, as I've been harassed as a visiting fan for 3 um games there. Cool story bro, I know.

I don't know where you can get one. I have a um cycling top but its more of a club fit than I prefer. at imwi there was a guy in a Spartan one piece tri kit a few minutes ahead of me on the run. closed the gap but didn't quite reel him in because I wasn't willing to risk blowing up my whole race just to pick off lil bro. ended up 30 seconds behind that a hole.

This is IM #4 in 4 years and with two little kids I think I might retire for a while after this one. Looking forward to it...bike course was pretty nice and should be interesting running through camp Randall.
It was really tough to register for this one knowing I would miss the Notre Dame game but I guess I can watch it the night before...not like you sleep the night before anyway right?

Not running this race, but I'm training to build up to a half mar in Sept. I've always just run 5K but I'll be doing my first 10K 4th of July, then building from there.

5Ks are painful aren't they?  10Ks and halfs are really nice as you can settle into your groove rather than just gunning it the whole time.  I haven't done a full marathon yet, but plan on trying Detroit in the fall.  That will probably be an all new kind of torture.

Yes. I live in Saginaw, so I'm running the MCVI Run For Your Heart. My 10K will be the Vaulkslauffe (SP?) in Frankenmuth. I may do a few others. Also planning to run the Warrior Dash this year for the first time.

I'm running the full marathon tomorrow. Having already run the Lansing and Kalamazoo Marathons this year, I'm very much looking forward to this one (despite the 6:30am start). The course should bring back memories of undergrad, which is never a bad thing. However, the hill around the medical campus (at mile 17/18) should be interesting.

Good luck to all those runners out there!

I ran the Dexter-Ann Arbor half last weekend and I really wish this race was NOT the following weekend.  I'm too old to string these back to back and have to coach baseball later in the morning....  If Big House Big Heart is not going to happen anymore I'd like this to be the Ann Arbor Fall Marathon and stop stepping on the more traditional DXA2 weekend.

I ran the half marathon today. A guy was running in an OSU hat. There was a point where you had to do a 180 degree turn with a volunteer pointing where to go. The person there to direct you was just heckling the OSU guy, and never said anything to him about where to turn. The OSU guy just kept going and never did the 180. I heard him talking after the race and he said he went another half mile down the road before he realized he screwed up, adding an extra mile to his race. I thought it was hilarious.
