OT - Ann Arbor area fundraiser ideas

Submitted by Blazefire on

Alright, so, again, sorry this is OT. Hopefully it's not TOO OT, because it's in the AA area. I need some thoughts.

I and a couple of people with NF Inc., a group to support research into Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and 2, as well as other associated diseases, are trying to come up with some fund raiser ideas for the group to hold in the AA area. A really fun one I'd like to try, which I think we'll probably set up, is organized through Mongolian BBQ. They offer the opportunity to be a "guest griller" at a fund raiser night. I'll need to investigate more.

I am also thinking of contacting the U of M AD office and seeing if there is any chance they make any of the university held suites available for such things. If it's a cause they'd like to donate a suite to, and then we could auction off the tickets. However, not everybody is a big M fan, so that might not go over as well.

People of AA and the surrounding area, can you think of any other cool opportunities? Would the AA golf course be open to hosting an outing at a deep discount so the money could go to research? What else is there?

I used to work at Buffalo Wild Wings and we had fundraisers come through there all the time. I forget the percentage of sales you get, but most of the organizations made decent money off of it. And if you have someone at the restaurant all day, you can just stop by all the random tables that come through and give them a slip for when they pay. That way you get something from all the tables throughout the day and not just the people who are specifically there for the fundraiser.

I think Max & Erma's also does something similar (same as Noodles).

You can certainly try the AD, but I feel pessimistic because I'm certain they are inundated with requests from many worthy, compelling causes.  If I were the AD I'd probably put a policy in place that refused everyone.  Otherwise you have to give someone in the AD the crappy job of deciding that Kidney Disease and Iraq widows get a "yes" this year and Lupus and Childhood Leukemia get a "no," times 500.

You might see if your organization can become one of the "Big House, Big Heart" beneficiaries.

The usual thing I see around here for local organizations are fundraising auctions.  They are a TON of work but I have seen some neat things offered.
