OT And Geeky

Has anybody read any Star Wars novels? I've seen quite a few references to the movies here, so I assume I'm not the only fan. My interest was piqued after reading a book in the New Jedi Order series, and I have been sold ever since. There are many others to choose from, but I highly suggest the NJO and Legacy Of The Force series.

but some channel had Episodes I thru III on yesterday. I forgot how truly god awful the acting was. Especially epsiode I. I was quite a ways behind real time thanks to DVR and I would skip past huge chunks of FAIL in acting and dialogue. It's truly painful to watch the majority of non-action scenes in those 3 newer episodes.

What you want are the books by Timothy Zahn. The Thrawn Trilogy, Allegiance, etc. I wasn't a big fan of the Vong and newer ones. If you want real crap writing go dig some of the 1980s era novels and some of the early 90s. I'd avoid the Jedi Academy trilogy and the Black Fleet trilogy myself. The X-Wing series is also worthy of a shout out I guess, they're kind of written on the young adult level (like 13-14 y/o) but they're amusing. /my girlfriend on moving in with me and seeing my novel collection: "Well....at least it's not porn..."

I used to read them, but when they found some threat from outside that wasn't Jedis and Empires and such, it started to just become basic Sci Fi for me. Which is fine, but not what I want out of Star Wars. That, and it seemed like they were coming out with 3 books a month too. Though I do have the SW Books IPhone App. :-P

Yep! I've read all of them, including the new Fate of the Jedi series Backlash that just came out like 5 days ago. I lovem all, although reading the new ones hasn't been as interesting after I found out about the Legacy comics that take place 130 years after the Battle of Yavin where Luke and everyone are dead and the protagonist is Luke's descendant "Cade". It's just not as fun when you know whats going to happen.

I enjoyed the Zahn novels too. I didn't include those because to me, they seem to be obscure so I didn't think a lot of people read them. I've always wondered why he didn't do any of the later novels.

I agree, Michael Stackpole is my favorite Star Wars novelist, he wrote the X-Wing series, I believe. If you're into Star Wars "non-fiction," I would read the New Essential Chronology, it covers everything from the dawn of the Rakatan Empire to the birth of the Jedi and Sith, to the Yuuzaahn Vong invasion. Very interesting stuff.
