OT: AMC reveals trailer for upcoming "Walking Dead" series

Submitted by Crime Reporter on

The zombie apocalypse is coming this fall. I hope you guys are well-stocked with food and ammo. These Z's appear to be the lumbering variety, but nevertheless, they will eat you.

I can honestly say I am looking forward to this show, although I am paranoid that this is going to happen in real life some day. Enjoy.

Looks epically awesome.  With this show, plus the potential World War Z movie, maybe zombie apocalypse is the new Vampires, but without all the tween angst and shirtless men in jorts.

I think it's been pushed back once or twice.  Great book though.

Have you read Day by Day Armageddon (and its sequel)?  I liked the first one better than the second, but they're both excellent zombie novels.  I'm looking forward to seeing how he takes the series in the future.  There has to be a follow-up novel with how it left off.

Oh, and I can't wait for Walking Dead.  My wife and I have been looking forward to it for months.  Yes, I married a zombie fan, so I've got that going for me.

Looks great!!!  I tried following the comic series but kinda trailed off.  I'll definitely be watching.

although I am paranoid that this is going to happen in real life some day.

Hey man, that 2012 stuff?  No environmental disaster is going to happen, it's gonna be zombies.  You've been warned.

I sat in on this panel at Comic Con. The cast and crew all seemed very excited about their work. I'm just glad this is a show and not a movie. The story deserves to be told over time, it's so complex. I anticipate this being my go-to show that will replace BSG.
Thanks for posting.

The trailer makes this look so great.

I read most of the trade paperbacks, and while the writing was always pretty good, the art took a nosedive after the first book (probably by issue 5 or something of the comics). I don't know who the replacement artist was, but he actually appeared to get less talented as time went on. When I stopped being able to tell the difference between the 60 year old man and the spunky 20 year old girl...I kind of lost interest.

is the artist, and has been since issue 7.  Tony Moore was the artist on the first 6 issues.  It's funny because Charlie Adlard has been around a long time, since the early 90s, and the Walking Dead was some ot Tony Moore's earliest stuff.  The difference between the two is a little jarring if you're going from the first trade to the second, since their styles are a little different.  Being early Tony Moore work, he might even admit he looks back on it as being a little rough.

I'm actually a fan of Charlie's art, but I can see it not being to everyone's taste.  I think his true gift to the series is the mood he sets with his layouts...he can also draw a pretty mean zombie, IMO.  So can series writer Robert Kirkman, who drew me a zombie sketch at a convention one time.

As a fan of the series, I'm really looking forward to this show.  Hopefully they maintain the character interactions, and the anything can happen at anytime aspects that make the book so enjoyable.

and I can't wait for it to come out. It's about time they came out with a horror show that looks like they actually put an effort into making it, and caters to adults. I just hope it's not gonna end up being some huge, CGI fuckfest.

Pumped for this! I'm in a zombie movie this week. I just got the new The Devil Wears Prada CD (called Zombies) and last night I watched a really terrible Norwegian zombie movie called "Dead Snow" that involved Nazi Zombies from WWII.

Super, super excited for this.

Love the comics (yes, I am a nerd) although I agree with a poster above that the artwork has seriously declined in recent years.

Plus after the conclusion of LOST and the cancellation of Flash/Forward, I have very little to watch outside of True Blood, Entourage (though it's getting painful), Psych, and Futurama.

Started too late on Mad Men. Don't have Showtime (Dexter/Weeds).

This looks badass. The little girl in the parking lot and the lady crawling in the yard creeped me out the most. I was waiting for Woody to bust in with Bill Murray and complain about Snow Balls, lol. Just kidding, but seriously this looks amazing and creepy as hell.

the little girl with the teddy bear.

Because sometimes, you just gotta pop a little zombie girl in the head. Normally I don't go in for Zombie stuff as much. I dunno. The concept of losing my identity and control of myself horrifies me. But in show format, I think I can take it. Especially being that, if they're the lumbering type, it should be more horror and less, "Jump out and go BOO!", which is better.

I'm setting on a (numbers classified) fuckton of weapons/ammo plus I have access to many boats/supplies to ride it out so when you find me the safe word will be "GO BLUE" or "long live MGoBlog". Also I am the only UM fan that I know of in my area so your more than welcome to come along so we can debate what the Conference would have been like and who would of started at QB if it wasn't for the fuckin zombies.

Edit: I will miss football season.

You anchor out and take the small boat in (with heavy fire 240B/M2HB if necessary) for resupply. Take over a warehouse(Cosco/Sams) if needed. Firepower will not be an issue, plus as in the book you only have to worry about your anchor line when anchored.

We've planned this many a night standing the Mid Watch (0000-0400). Find a nice inlet (no heavy seas) anchor and observe and save fuel. Only go in when you have to for food and medical. Plus the inlet would be off a military base (small Navy/CG with good perimeter fence) is a plus for a good landing spot.

For example when I was stationed in Miami. The only land access was a bridge off the Miami Beach/South Beach causeway. Destroy/barricade the bridge and you're on a island with only boat access so there's good security. So now you would only have to get U/W for food.

32ed street in San Diego would be a good spot for resupply from the bay between the Navy base and Coronado. Same with the Sub Base up in Bangor WA. That’s my plan anyway plus my wife will be the one going ashore with me and my boys supplying cover if she doesn't make it....;)

The inherent problem with CostCo/Sams Club/whatever is that you're not the only one with that idea. While the zombies are the primary threat, other groups of survivors aren't exactly going to play nice/be smart (ie they'll get bit and come to you for help instead of separating themselves from the group) and you'll eventually have to defend against them as well.

being better armed comes into play. Also, remember you're only going in to resupply. You don't need to occupy the space.

On important, oft overlooked item for things like this are mechanical and electrical components. You want to make sure you're anchoring somewhere not TOO far from industrial equipment and facilities, because if  the zombie plague stretches on for more than a couple of months, you're going to need repair/replacement equipment.

I would probably try to make port somewhere where there were lots of other easy access craft to cannibalize and heavy equipment in abundance, for the recovery. After all, the first thing you're gonna want to do once the Z threat subsides is to carve yourself and your people a secure domain from the pirates and ravagers that are sure to follow. The proper equipment, and you can found the nation to spearhead the recovery.

No argument there, you absolutely cannot occupy one of those places (consider the location; there has to have been some form of society nearby) without infinite resources.

if  the zombie plague stretches on for more than a couple of months

Is there any reason to assume it wouldn't? If we assume immortality, then the only end of the plague will come when all life (or just all humans, if it doesn't affect animals) has been zombified, or the virus itself has been not just contained, but eliminated.

Also I find your discussion of rebooting society afterwards intriguing but cannot comment on it. I've always considered the act of surviving Z-day over actually getting things going again should the plague be defeated.

Also, your sig fits quite well in this sub-thread discussion. Hope you brought gloves to the apocalypse.

to the point that normal wear, erosion and breakdown of non-regenerating tissues results in pile of dust zombies that can neither bite nor infect anyone.

Though certain books, films, and Hollywood disagree, I put the numbers at anywhere from 6 months to three years after Z-Day for the breakdown of tissues to the point that zombies are no longer capable of moving/performing any function and 5-7 before you could call everything clean.

That's assuming all people that die AFTER Z-Day are automatically cremated to prevent a relapse.

After a while, I might consider taking refuge in an abandoned aircraft carrier just offshore.

Maybe something similar to Rivet City in Fallout 3. Could set up a pretty solid government and make a long retractable bridge that connects you to the mainland.

Risk vs reward, if the place is occupied/guarded he with the biggest stick wins. Darwin/luck will win the day.

Edit: to Blaze, hence the anchoring off the military base...spare parts and most bases are loaded with food to feed the troops/sailors.

Double edit: Why the hell are we still talking about this? Oh Yeah, were eight days and a wake up from UCONN.

Why the hell are we still talking about this?

I wont lie; I find this more interesting than whatever the latest Free Press article has to say, or "omg this dude says Denard is starting" or etc etc etc that has been rehashed over the last 3 weeks.

At this point, nothing will sate until 9-4-10 hits.

I'm not sure why, and it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one, but this topic has always intrigued me. What would I do if this ever happened?

I like some of theories above, and I completely forgot about the decomposition of zombie tissue over time.

Like others, I believe the problem would be complicated by pirates and others trying to form new governments. Hell, some of the survivors would be worse than the zombies themselves.

If it happens here, I am truly fucked, being in the media and all. They would send me out to cover the epidemic and I'd be running for my life when I realized what was happening.

Great discussion guys.

Man, I know it's cable but I really hope there is sufficient blood, guts and general gore.  A zombie tale without those just doesn't seem like a zombie tale at all.  Other than that, the trailer looks excellent.

I saw the first episode, but I cannot tell you any details about it because I would get some people fired and maybe thrown in jail. What I can tell you, though, is that it is going to be on par with Breaking Bad, The Wire, and the other upper-tier shows. It is sweet.
