OT - For all "The Players"
Eldrick - Every week.... is he back? Is this the week? Will the old Tiger Woods please stand up? My take - Nope. There are a couple more majors left in that science experiment that he calls a golf swing, but I don't expect much at this point. He makes the cut, possibly stirs the echoes for a moment, but the product is too unfinished right now for the Stadium.
Rory? His mind is already in San Francisco. Don't think he dials it up here.
Phil? I think Phil is simply enjoying the good life right now. I think he is one of the few players out there that still can have fun when he doesn't win. Phil is going to play 4 "fun" rounds of golf this week and still cruise to a Top 10, but not the winner's circle.
Ricky? Take your Puma and get off my lawn.
The winner is........ Adam Scott. Won here in 04, under the radar year after flashes of brilliance in 11. Been a while since a competive round but will be well rested and ready to go.
(Don't put is past Sergio to get something going either. He has been sneaky good all year.)
Agreed on Woods. He has been up and down, and seems to be heading along one of the troughs at this point in the cycle.
I haven't followed golf very closely recently, but like what Westwood has been doing and think he may take it.
his problems were as simple as the putter right now.
he won't have to hit his driver much. Bad news is he still has to putt. He has always done well when he putts well regardless of other aspects of his game. But when he doesn't putt well, then ouch.
Can't help but like Ricky and Rory and the way they can bomb it with accuracy. Maybe old Sergio will find some comfort since he won here a couple years ago and catch lightning in a bottle.

I agree that Tiger probably doesn't win this week but I still like his chances to break Palmers major record. Something inside me just can't forget how dominate he was. You just can't count him out in any tournament he is in. Also, with the way he trains, he should stay in good shape for a long career, assuming his knees hold up.

Hey he was right you know. I like Tiger's chances to break Palmer's major record too. And I like the Celtics chances of breaking the Clippers NBA title record, the Yankee's chances of breaking the Cubs World Series record, the Canadian's chances or breaking the Blue's Stanley Cup record and Johnson's chances of breaking Patrick's Sprint Cup Champtionship record too.

There's a difference between bringing up a topic that is "OT" and throwing out random thoughts on a board, about an already random topic, for the sole purpose to invoke discussion. My response has nothing to do with the topic of the post. It has everything to do with the way in which it was brought up. I dont think this place is, or ever has been, a board where you can come and just spout off random thoughts on random subjects, like "OT- My thoughts on Chocolate Chip Cookies. They're great when newly baked, but then they get hard after a while and I don't like it when they're crunchy".
OP's original post is more akin to a comment on an overall discussion. It does not appear to me to be a discussion in and of itself. Saying things like "Rory's mind is in San Fran" and "Phil is simply enjoying the good life right now" are wholely irrelevant to any sort of discussion about the PC. He brings up no news, cites to no sources.
Please tell me how it is anything less than a random Bleacher Report article?

Please see "OT-Walking Dead" and "OT - Mayweather v. Cotto" for examples of things way more off topic and way less insightful that drew the anger of....... nobody. Your in a bad mood, that's fine. Don't take it out on this post.
Just because my thoughts on your post are critical does not mean that I'm "in a bad mood". I'll look at those suggested threads once you take a look at the MgoBoard tab and see how many of those posts deal with mere irrelevant conjecture in their original post (hint: out of 15, yours is the only one).

I don't have a dog in this argument, but I will say one thing. It's the off season and new links about anything OT or otherwise are what keep me coming back to read. Having said that though I honestly didn't know what this post was about until I got to Tiger Woods name in the second sentence. I think that is where the problem lies. just my .02
Pompous, given your point total. It's the offseason. Don't click if you don't want to read. I enjoy a bit of golf talk. At least it concerns the results of a sporting event as opposed to buying Petrino's Harley.
The difference, in my opinion, is that I knew I wasn't interested in Petrino's Harley without clicking on it. With this one, I had to click and read a few sentences before I knew that "For all 'The Players'" was refering to golf. For anyone interested, it may be obvious, but for those of us not interested, not so much.
I see your point. "The Players" immediately clicked in my head because I was looking at the leaderboard just minutes before heading to mgoblog.
I think Woods can contend, as it's not a particularly long course so he can get away with that great stinger 2-iron on some of the tighter holes. It's not to say I expect him to win or anything, but I'd be surprised if he's not playing on the weekend.
I think Hunter Mahan's got a good shot this week. He's pretty accurate off the tee (8th on Tour in driving accuracy), and he gets on the dance floor even better (5th in GIR). If he can get the putter working, he's got a real strong chance to be right in the mix of things on Sunday.
I know he won here before, but that was when he was winning everywhere, and it didn't matter where he played. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I think he just plain quit when he withdrew from the tournament. I've never liked Woods, I could care less what he does in his personal life, I've just always hated the way he acted on the course. I just think he's an asshole, plain and simple.
Lefty- I'm a lefty fan and my doctor knows that I am. He told me that psoriatic arthritis is no joke, and that lefty is most definitely playing through pain. He also said the meds that you have to take to combat the arthritis weaken your immune system.
Fowler- When I first saw Fowler I didn't like him, the clothes, the hair. However, when I saw the stones that kid has in those last 4 holes at the Ryder Cup, he instantly became one of my favorite players.
I don't know what it is about Rory, but sometimes he displays a cockiness that rubs me the wrong way. Of course, if I was 23 with a US Open under my belt, I'm not sure how I would act either.
take Rory as cocky or arrogant. He has serious game and he knows it, but it does not come across cocky to me. That guy is going to win some tournaments, a lot of them.
I don't dislike Rory, his swing is a work of art, but I was definitely rooting for Rickie last week. I didn't really care for how he and Sergio were acting in the final round of the Masters this year.
Plus I really want the US to win the Ryder Cup.
I think that, when you're an athlete who is one of the best in the world at your sport, you have to have a certain degree of cockiness. He knows he has the game and so does everyone else. Cockiness is a good thing as long as he's not an ass to the fans, media, and other players.
You see the same cockiness in someone like Bubba Watson. He knows he has the ability to hit some ridiculous shots, and he gets himself in a lot of trouble on the course because he wants to hit 30+ yard hooks and slices all the time when it's totally unnecessary. But he's an all-around good guy in all his interactions with media and fans, and the players seem to like him a lot.
psoriatic arthritis who is taking the same meds as Phil. It VERY definitely is no fun and painful. Phil was "lucky" in that they caught it early, but that is all you can say for it. It is a HUGE deal for sure.
I still like Ricky Fowler, fresh off the win last week, to do really well but it's less of a sleeper pick. Rory is a safe bet too, he tasted the win last week and has finished in the top 5 of the last couple us tournaments he has played in. I think the potential of winning last week is going to cause him to play extremely well
Tiger has not lost his putting stroke but his hoes. Tiger just go back to being a sleaze, your'e not married. Play it up like a single guy with a billion dollars and let loose, it's not like your'e fooling anyone with 'trying' to be cordial and nice. I just want to see you play golf and play it well.
It's clear that this isn't Tiger's year (again)... If he doesn't win another major before next year's end, I really think that he's done. Watching this at the Players, it's really pathetic to watch. He has just about no game right now!
Tiger will not win another Major. Age and injury have caught up with him. But, more importantly, the other golfers no longer fear him or his game.
