OT: Ale to the Victors Update

Submitted by Eric on
So, I may not have a batch ready for the home opener. My wife and I are adopting 2 children and it is taking up nearly all of my free time. Between visits and appointments, I have hardly any time. If I can get it brewed this Saturday, it will have enough time to ferment before the game. Hopefully, most of you are understanding! Go Blue!

My wife and I will be adopting someday soon (we hope) but she is terrified that we won't get one, or that we'll get him/her and then they'll take it back. I want to go where we have a good chance of success. Also, I've been hearing about $10K so far from most places, total. Is that about right?

My wife and I are foster parents.  There was a situation where they had an 18 month old boy and a, not yet born baby.  We were asked if we were interested and we said yes.  There are hundreds of people to choose from, for some reason, we got lucky. Since we are a foster parents and went through Children's services, it won't cost us a dime. If you use a private agency, it will cost at least $10K.  Also, don't expect to get a newborn from the hospital without a sibling or siblings.  There are too many people out there that are willing to take sibling groups and they won't split the kids up if they can help it. Unfortunately, your wife's fears are all too real. It could be years before you get a child and there is no guarantee that the parents, or a family member won't step in at the last minute and change their mind.  It just comes with the territory I guess.  The parents of the children we're adopting had their parental rights terminated and there have been no family members that would qualify to get them. Like I said, we got lucky.  Good Luck though. Also, if I remember correctly, you live in the Toledo area.  If you ever have any questions, let me know.  I'm in Toledo as well. My wife is a Social Worker and we're pretty familiar with the process. We'll help out as much as we can.

Elaine: You yelled that time at the movies. That's why you're not getting the baby.

Arnie: Oh my God. How am I gonna tell Beth?

Elaine: Look, I'll go down and talk to this adoption guy and I'll make sure that it all gets worked out.

Arnie: All right, just don't screw it up this time! (He exits)

Elaine: See, again with the yelling. Not a fan of the yelling.

First of all - I respect you and your wife for what you are trying to - adopt.  There are so many kids out there that need you.  Best of luck.

My son, his friend Andrew and I also brew.  Would it help if we brewed it for you?  It would still be yours - I'm not trying to steal your idea.  But it is such a great idea that I would like to see it succeed.

Edward and Andrew have had their beer sampled by brew masters from Budweiser and got an "Excellent" rating.  I say this only to assure you that we would do justice to your brew.   I can brew up to 100 bottles.   We have traditionally brewed from scratch, but can do whatever your recipe calls for.

Let me know how I can help as we need to get going on this ASAP if we are going to do this for the opener.

Focus on the adoption and we'll find some brew.  If anyone is passing through the Cleveland area on the way to the game, I'll donate a case of home-brewed ale in honor of Chewer D's generosity.

BTW - My Chinook hops are ripe and I've picked about 7-lbs so far (I use six-twelve oz to brew)!  It should be a brew-tastic fall.

I forgot one very important fact.  The biological parents of these kids are Buckeyes and I will be quickly making them Wolverines!  How many MGoPoints is that worth?

Infinity +1 if either of them goes on to attend M. Infinity +2 if either of them goes on to attend M and plays a sport there. Infinity +Infinity if either of them beats OSU while playing a sport there.
