Eat em up Tigers. If it's anything like last year series against the A's, then it should it be great week of baseball. Oakland has a great playoff atmosphere.
OT- ALDS GAME 1. TIGERS @ ATHLETICS
Is Jonah Hill still on staff? I think I have seen parts of Moneyball about ten times in the past two weeks as FX has it on every day
Eat em' up.
I, selfishly, want it to go 4 games...cuz I'll be at game 4.
I've got game 4 tickets as well. Specifically if they could win in Game 4 in epic fashion, that would be even better. And I catch Miggie's game winning, walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 9th. Yeah... that sounds awesome.
Pretty crappy that game 3 (Monday @Comerica) is at 1pm, and game 4 (Tuesday @Comerica) is at 5pm.
That does seem like horse shit
Red wings game with some great action!
Zetterberg with the game tying goal with 16 seconds remaining!
Mickey Redmond and Kenny Daniels just flipped...if you missed it. Wings scored with 17 seconds left to tie it.
I'm an old man!
PS: Go Tigers!
Is anyone else hearing a breathing noise for the announcers? Sounds like Redmond breathing
WEISS! Wings win!
Big moment early on, way to go Miggy!
Picture perfect start
1-0 Tigers. 2 on, no outs.
2-0? After a half inning? I'll take it
Yup. And now Max shuts em down
Game starts, you blink 3 times and we're up 2-0. Nice.
Avila has monster numbers against Colon, would be nice to pick up one more run here. 4-8 with 2 HRs
Hitting sixth! I haven't seen that much. Has he been hitting that high in the lineup lately?
No he's been relegated to 7th or 8th but he's swung a hot bat in the 2nd half with solid power. Good move by Leyland flipping him and Dirks.
Great start. That should be enough for Max. But the A's are scrappy, you never know
quite a few home runs this year. I wouldn't be comfortable with a 3 run lead, even with Max on the mound.
Does not serve up homers very often.
Knocking on wood.....
uuuhh two pitches right down the middle called balls?? Could be a long night.
Maybe the ump is telling him to locate better? As no ball should be right down the middle. Max will take to that and just paint the corners all night.
Is that Henrik Zetterberg on Oakland's bench? Quick turnaround.
To put Peralta in for Dirks?
Looks like Colon took some testosterone between innings.
First time I have seen that type of foul tip.
with the word "athletics" emblazoned on his chest is super ironic.
suck it, city in California!
Chris Sabo, Jr.
Way to strand that runner that Dirks allowed. Good thing Peralta isn't out there since he's so inexperienced....
Dirks allowed? The guy hit a rope over his head.
With the bats going, we're golden tonight
You sir, knock on the nearest wood.
As you were
Lets go Victor keep this inning going
Ugh. Baseball is so boring.
Then kindly find the nearest door (thread.)
You fell for his trap. Don't feed trolls.
Scherzer strikes out the side. He's on tonight!
I had to ask the guys at the pub to put the game, I'm the only one who cares about it in the bar ha! nice :D
Do we have serious concerns for Miggy over the grind that is the postseason?
No more concerns then we had over the last month and a half, he's not going to get healthy until next year. Just hope he's able to give solid AB's here for (crosses fingers) the next 3 weeks.
I do. Also, great camera work to end the inning. The one shit replay we got from a shit angle looked like Hunter may have got his hand in.
I don't think he'll be 100% again this year, but he's what he is, pitchers will respect him and I don't think his OBP will suffer much
he is about 60%. The Tigers rolled the dice by not putting him on the DL, which may come back to bite them now.
In essence they needed to keep playing him. We only won the division by a game, obviously take the Miami series into context that we rested alot of players, but the division got real tonight because Cleveland abuses sub .500 teams.
Yeah it was a tough situation. Ideally he would have sat the last 3 weeks. I think they could have sat him longer when he first got injured though about a month and a half ago. Would have made more sense to sit him for at least 2 weeks rather than sit him 2 days, play 2 games, sit another game, play 3 games, DH a game, play 5 innings, sit, play 4, sit... you get the idea. It probably would have amounted to the same number of missed games and actually healed him up some. Don't know what the injury is obviously but it seems like something that some rest would help. Also, the fact that we played an interleague series to end the year is absurd.
lead at one point. My line of thinking is they should have nipped the issues in the bud early on, instead they kept on rolling the dice. Eventually they reached a point of no return, where he wasn't going to be 100% healthy, no matter what they did. He basically missed almost the same amount of time as two week DL stint anyways, considering the games he had to leave early. He is just trying to get by with all arms right now, even for as a talented as he is, that is going to cause a drastic hit in production.
Their record with Miggy wasn't too bad either. They still could have won games without him.
Obviously hindsight is 20/20 and I'm even willing to agree with you about sitting him, but at the point he was playing hurt he was still raking in early August. Hard to sit a guy that is still incredibly productive, even if he is playing at 70%. Now obviously it lead to other injuries but I don't think there was really a right call to make whether it be to sit him or play him.
"He was safe, but the throw beat him and that was stupid, so he was out." WTF kind of statement is that announcers.
Announcers just lost all respect from me with that nonsense about the Hunter steal. "He was safe, but the ball beat him there, and that was just a stupid play, so... you're out." Excuse me?
Yeah, that may have been the stupidest thing I've ever heard an announcer say.
Did that announcer actually just say that even though he was safe the fact that the throw beat him to the bag means he should be out anyway so no prob on the bad call? WTF!
Evidently he did. I just thought I had taken one to many bong hits tonight. Wow. What an idiot.
These announces are really annoying.
Wish we had Joe Buck. Wait... what?
Are they worse than Ernie Johnson,Ron Darling, and Cal Ripken...and lts not forget Craig Sager?? Watching the Braves-Dodgers game was terrible.
Another gripe while I'm at it, the TBS pitch locator sucks ass.
Max looks filthy, with a pitch count at 79 I'm hopeful he can go 7 possibly 8 innings tonight.
I want to see some complete games from our rotation in the playoffs if games are close. They're our best options and there's no need to save them anymore. Especially with such a low pitch count.
the dumbest statement I have ever heard an announcer make. Hate the whole ball beats a guy, so he is out line of thinking. You see it all the time from the umps, in terms of missing calls. Don't often see announcers try and cover for it, by making idiotic statments though.
And how do they figure that was horrible decision by Hunter? The 2nd basemen and pitcher weren't paying attention. That is heads up thinking on his part.
The fact that he was safe alone makes it a good decision in my book.
That pitch tracker must be off right? everything to the right, Max looks nasty tonight.
Why did the reds fire Baker? Glenn Mason anyone? also Leyland the leader in Ws among active managers? nice
I live in China and have not watched much of the Tigers this year. I just read a lot and always come across stories about how Scherzer should not win the Cy Young (advanced stats).
Small sample size is obvious but if tonight is representative of his year, give him the Cy Young.
Sort of like the Cabrera / Trout MVP "debate" last year.
Dude has been dominant. I'm fine with him getting the award.
I don't see how you send victor there. Bad call by the base coach
I disagree. Remember how LaMont would never send anybody? It took a perfect throw to get him.
Squandered an opportunity for add on runs.
They shouldn't have sent Martinez there...
a turning point in this game. Tigers have outhit Oakland 10-1, but lead is still not in safe territory.
At first I thought sending Victor was a horrible decision, but after seeing the replay it was literally a perfect throw. A slightly offline throw and he probally scores.
I'm blaming you if they come back :)
Scherzer might go 8 tonight.
of that Dodgers/ Braves game before they showed that highlight. Interesting call to end that game, would need to see it again.
At least the announcers gave some shit about this strike zone tonight
I'm getting annoyed at the color guy basically cheering on the A's. Not buck Martinez, the other dude
Ugh Dirks, come on buddy you gotta make that catch.
Weird strike zone tonight.
Not sure what this announcer has against holding runners at first. It's the second time he's bitched about it.
He is sharp tonight.
96 pitches through 6, might have to get 2 innings out of the bullpen tonight.
Veras and Benoit? or do they use a lefty?
I might even go with Porcello for an inning, but basically matchup Veras and Smyly in the 8th and Benoit in the 9th.
Is the rotation down to 4 for the playoffs? sorry I've been kinda disconected
Yes the rotation is down to 4, no need for a 5th starter in the playoffs so Porcello goes to the pen and hopefully fills the Rondon role since he's out for the series.
Yes, four starters in the playoffs. Porcello has been moved to relief.
That last pitch was dirty.
The choices are Dirks, Kelly and a guy in Peralta who hasn't played the outfield before the last couple of weeks. Against righties I think Dirks is probally the best option
Not sure why people were on him for that triple earlier in the game. That was a rocket by Cespedes. He reached for it, but it was way over his head.
He does seem to get to a little stiff around the walls and tends to have a gator arm sometimes.
Not sure if I should still be anoyed about the muaic at the bar not letting me hear the comments at the game... sounds like a blessing in disguise
A beer per inning isn't shaping out to be a good idea...
My broadcast just went to a Seinfeld rerun for a few seconds and then immediately back to the game. Weird.
What's the deal with cable tv?
Was it one of the Keith Hernandez episodes? Maybe TBS is cross-marketing.
To the pen now?
Gotta try and stretch him the rest of this inning as the the A's are at the bottom of the order. Try to matchup Smyly to Sogard and Crisp next inning if possible.
Well he did it, let's wrap this up
That was a no doubter.
was thinking there. Should have gone offspeed, Cespedes was way out in front of that previous slider. He was clearly geared up for a fastball.
Typical Tigers down the stretch. 10 hits garners only 3 runs. The other team now has 3 hits and 2 runs. Un-fucking real. Our offense better get it's head out of its ass.
Did Coke make the playoff roster?
Obviously only having one lefty is a concern, but having unproductive lefties on the roster does no good either.
Alvarez is out as well then? will Rondon come back if the Tigers advance?
Actually, Alvarez is also in the bullpen as our 2nd lefty.
He's not on the active roster.
Pinch hit Peralta for Dirks when he gets up. Then pinch run/defensive sub Don Kelly for Peralta.
Decision time for Leyland, if you put Smyly in to start next inning Melvin will most likely pinch hit Callaspo. I'd rather see the Sogard-Scherzer matchup but doubtful Leyland plays it that way.
Cabrera's lack of speed (in general) and his injury mean fewer infield singles. It makes his batting average all the more impressive. The guy practically has to hit a double to get on first base.
they can't let this series become a bullpen contest. Oakland has a good sized edge there, though Smyly, Veras and Beniot are solid. Everybody else is the problem.
Starters are going to have to be at the top of their game in this series.
Let's hope the mouthguard fad doesn't catch on in baseball.
and the dirty man fad
That may have already happened
Geez we have no wheels....
Make their asses pay!
Pretty please with sugar on top: get an insurance run.
Drive him in Alex, need to tack on a run or 2.
Bullpen time. Everybody hang onto your butts.
of confidence in Smyly, Veras, and Benoit (despite blowing a couple saves late in the season). Everybody else is heart attack city though.
Edit: And just when I say that Smyly gives up a walk.
The problem there is you only said decent. I will be on edge every pitch from here on out.
Even in cases where a team has a great bullpen, a one run game is always going to have you on the edge of your seat. The Tigers key in this series (and the entire playoffs) is for the starters to go long enough to get Smyly, Veras, and Benoit in the game, and minimize the usage of other guys.
Don't put him on for God's sake.
Crap... good thing the beers cost about a dollar here....
4 out save attempt? please be good Benoit
I like how the bullpen is on the field. Old school.
Split finger change up in the mid 90s, I'm intrigued.
3 more outs! I'm on my last beer so this game better not go to extras.
Crisp's walk should be made a gif
When I'm nervous, I drink a lot! It would be great to take this first game!
Crisp's walk should be made a gif
A-Rod is a dick
Doolittle looks like someone Walter White took out in the penultimate scene of Breaking Bad.
I'm amazed how stupid announcers are all the time. They're going to put Kelly in for defense after Jhonny's at bat....it's a pretty simple move.
of the three are guys who have played/managed in the game. I guess that is Buck is announcing instead of still managing.
I miss Todd Jones :(
LET'S DO THIS!!! C'mon Joaquin!
We need to hang on here. Losing this one would be a bad omen - especially since the offense is back to being garbage again.
Everybody's giving me a weird look...
Did you throw up? Because that will do it.
Nope but it was a good thing that the game ended because they're kicking out people now, closing time.
1 down, let's go Benoit.
Props to Willy Wonka for calling the Dirks/Peralta/Kelly swap. It was funny when the announcing team were confused about it.
And boom goes the dynamite!!
Awesome game! Goodnight everyone.
16K. I like that!!
Dieciséis chocolates! yum
The tiger could come back home up 2-0.
Sanchez going at Comerica. I like that scenario.
What are you all doing? I guess it is a good time for mulch and an early start at sucking.
tastes the best tonight is Tom Brookens.
Great night. Huge win. Scherzer was great!
