The Tigers are at a crossroads. They probably will losr Scherzer after the 14' if they don't trade him by then and they still are stuck with the ten ton stone called Prince Fielder's contract. They will lose VMart and Peralta as well.
Fielder's contract is just awful.
Lumping him in with Valverde is BS. One grand slam doesn't change the fact that he had a good year overall.
I do agree with the overall sentiment though, they should have tried to do more by the deadline in addition to acquiring Veras. Thought they could have taken a gamble on Brian Wilson before LA did, for example.
The bullpen debacle is fair criticism on Dombrowski, but it also doesn't help that Villarreal became a huge liability, Coke disappeared after a fantastic postseason, Dotel's elbow finally exploded, and Rondon didn't make the leap as quick as we all had hoped.
He should have gotten another LOOGY though, once it became clear that Coke was going to be generally awful.
& not all of it self-induced. Al Al was flat unhittable before bonked on noggin in batting practice. Since he finally came back, he's alternated unhittable with 3 walks on 12 pitches then a double.

Dombroski has been around since 02' and hasn't won a title yet and I doubt he ever will. He alternates horrid decisions with briliant ones. Strangest job performance GM/President I have ever seen.
The guy just brought this team to ALCS for 3rd straight time. This team that had these million warts & hardly a redeeming quality as everyone keeps complaining about here. Since winning the AL weve had 15 playoff games and scored 3 or less 10 times. We played in the worst division in baseball with the best roster and had no homefield advantage.
In case you didn't know, the AL Central was not the worst division in baseball this year, actually far from it.
Definitely worse than the AL West and East.

was shoddy when the year began. The price for good bullpen pitching was just too high, everyone wanted Castellanos. Rondon ending the year injured hurt, he was your fireball throwing setup man this team needed.
The bullpen looked strong around August but injuries and inconsistencies caught up.this series was there for the taking, we made too many mistakes and couldn't hit with risp.
Needs reworking, wish we could get out of prince contract, he will be worse each year. I think Benoit is a FA. Resign him, rondon as your setup. Find a lead off hitter, Jackson should be moved down in order, not a lead off hitter, not sure our options for lead off, we can't afford ellsbury, thanks to horrible prince contract. Sign some guys who can move runners and not solely rely on homers...
Long term, why not Nick at third, Miggy at first and Prince at DH? You are better defensively and extend careers.
