Probably not, but man his stuff looked good the last game he was in before he was hurt.
OT: ALCS Game 6 Open Thread
upgrade the bullpen.Depending upon a rookie and then trying to make up for it with Valverde, Veras, and Benoit was a huge mistake.
The Tigers are at a crossroads. They probably will losr Scherzer after the 14' if they don't trade him by then and they still are stuck with the ten ton stone called Prince Fielder's contract. They will lose VMart and Peralta as well.
Fielder's contract is just awful.
Lumping him in with Valverde is BS. One grand slam doesn't change the fact that he had a good year overall.
I do agree with the overall sentiment though, they should have tried to do more by the deadline in addition to acquiring Veras. Thought they could have taken a gamble on Brian Wilson before LA did, for example.
The bullpen debacle is fair criticism on Dombrowski, but it also doesn't help that Villarreal became a huge liability, Coke disappeared after a fantastic postseason, Dotel's elbow finally exploded, and Rondon didn't make the leap as quick as we all had hoped.
He should have gotten another LOOGY though, once it became clear that Coke was going to be generally awful.
& not all of it self-induced. Al Al was flat unhittable before bonked on noggin in batting practice. Since he finally came back, he's alternated unhittable with 3 walks on 12 pitches then a double.
starting pitching was so good this series, that's usually enough
Well this sucks. Good series I guess, can't believe two grand slams won them the series. So many missed opportunities, but that's baseball. Boston fans are insufferable too.
Who can be hired to replace Leyland?
I'm assuming you mean Joe Maddon....and no he's not leaving his comfy, no pressure job in Tampa.
Crappy players are and that is on Dave Dombroski.
Dude no way. He is the best GM in baseball IMO
The guy has won a WS title and can possibly add a second. Meanwhile the Tigers haven't won a WS since the Reagan administration.
Dombroski has been around since 02' and hasn't won a title yet and I doubt he ever will. He alternates horrid decisions with briliant ones. Strangest job performance GM/President I have ever seen.
The guy just brought this team to ALCS for 3rd straight time. This team that had these million warts & hardly a redeeming quality as everyone keeps complaining about here. Have you seen Boston's payroll? And where were they last year? The angels? Where are they? & of course the Yankees. Sorry, but idea that Leland should go for this is nuts. (Too tired to fight spell on Leland's name...argh!)
But. You know? He was the last coach lions had that led them regularly to winning seasons and playoffs, so maybe... (Ok, might've had something to with #20)
Leyland cannot scheme to cover flaws. What he has is what he has.
lets give a big round of appleause to tigers management for assembling this unit.
I'm not turning on sports except for Michigan and Red Wings'. Hearing about how the Red Sox are healing the city and the city is rallying around them ad nauseum is going to be vomit inducing.
Albuquerque pitched like a BOSS.
Alright, God, let's get a grand slam walk- off for some justice in the world.
Game is in Boston
come on boys. make something happen
that was fun to watch
soft soft soft.
Fuck that bunt
I hate these freakin' Japanese closers.
make up for your error. keep this game going
Oh sure, he misses that grounder
3 straight MVPs, 2 of last 3 Cy Youngs, and a few silver sluggers thrown in the mix. Nothing to show for it.
Man I'm gonna feel awful if Iggy takes the brunt of this. I still really like him.
No way that happens
Meh, he's young and the Tigers have a clubhouse full of good people, he should be fine.
I just meant fan reaction. I'm excited for him for our future.
Only the mouth breathers that call sports talk radio will blame it all on Iglesias, don't bother giving those people any portion of your time.
Epic waste of an opportunity this season was.
I hate the world
Leyland was 1-8 in the World Series anyhow. I guess you could use that in an argument.
Not to mention, he is a complete and utter coward when it comes to dealing with Fielder.
Since winning the AL weve had 15 playoff games and scored 3 or less 10 times. We played in the worst division in baseball with the best roster and had no homefield advantage.
In case you didn't know, the AL Central was not the worst division in baseball this year, actually far from it.
Definitely worse than the AL West and East.
I guess the NL West was pretty bad.
Well the AL West was actually worse, so was the NL West and NL East. Don't forget the Tribe were in the play-in-game and the Royals competed for the Wild card.
This series was lost in game 2.
Agreed... Game 2 was a game we just couldn't completely recover from, imo...
Sorry Mr. I. I just don't think it's going to happen for you no matter how much you spend. You deserve better
yes he does
What in the fuck is up with the "cc" and "vv" bullshit you're always doing
I thought 2012 couldn't get any worse... I was utterly wrong.
So what now in all seriousness??? We are running out of time on Miggy's contract. We have maybe the most useless long term deal in baseball right now with Fielder. Hunter's time is about up... One year left with Martinez... Next year feels like all or nothing to me at this point.
High-face girl in the gif.
That's a whole lot of decisions that I'm glad I don't have to make....but let's pretend that I do.
Re-sign Miggy ASAP, make him a Tiger for the forseeable future
Extend Austin Jackson ASAP (he had a poor postseason but he has all the tools you want as a CF and middle of the order hitter)
Let V-Mart walk after 2014 and move Prince to full time DH and hope he becomes Big Papi 2.0
Either Trade Max this off-season or let it all out and hope we win the WS next year. If the latter is the case then we're only getting draft pick compensation for him, which isn't terrible the Cardinals are sure glad Pujols left because they used that draft pick on rookie stud Michael Wacha.
Use assets to acquire a few bullpen arms
Give Nick Castellanos a full season of AB's in LF and hope he lives up to his top prospect potential.
- $$ Profit $$
has improved this team every year and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again this off-season.
However, to me Boston seems like they have the clubhouse rallying thing mastered. I'll give then credit where it is due: they were the better club in this one.
Oh I hate the Cardinals, I hope they get swept ceremoniously.
Terrible way for the season to end. This series only magnifies the deficiencies we have in the bullpen. Gotta shore that up.
was shoddy when the year began. The price for good bullpen pitching was just too high, everyone wanted Castellanos. Rondon ending the year injured hurt, he was your fireball throwing setup man this team needed.
The bullpen looked strong around August but injuries and inconsistencies caught up.this series was there for the taking, we made too many mistakes and couldn't hit with risp.
Needs reworking, wish we could get out of prince contract, he will be worse each year. I think Benoit is a FA. Resign him, rondon as your setup. Find a lead off hitter, Jackson should be moved down in order, not a lead off hitter, not sure our options for lead off, we can't afford ellsbury, thanks to horrible prince contract. Sign some guys who can move runners and not solely rely on homers...
Long term, why not Nick at third, Miggy at first and Prince at DH? You are better defensively and extend careers.
