On the bright side, it will be hard for future sports weekends to feature this many consecutive dong punches.

Epic collapse with the game practically in hand AGAIN. Fuck this shit.

Yeah, it's all Leyland's fault.

Leyland has a record of stretching out his starters, so the premise of your statement is already false.
The reason we think 108 pitches isn't a lot is because of the very fact that Leyland does let starters get to 120.
We had a 4 run lead and our bullpen has been pretty exceptional the last few games. It was a fine decision. And if Scherzer gave Leyland any indication that he was tiring, it was the correct decision.
These are clearly the best two teams in the AL and you have to tip your cap to Ortiz. There's no guarantee something similar wouldn't have happened if Scherzer came out.
And I'm saying all this as a guy who totally reemed Hoke yesterday to all of my friends.

Eh, whatever. Gonna be a fun, long series. Big Papi did what Big Papi does.
In Verlander I trust.

that knew how to close a team out?

And they only have four overall. The Lions have four as well and they are a much younger franchise than the Tigers.
The Tigers are the most overrated franchise in Detroit. Four championships in 112 years of play isn't very impressive.

The Lions are experts at choking on apple sauce so it was a bit amusing to see them close out a team while the Tigers and Michigan went pucker, pucker.
Actually, the Tigers have shown a propensity recently for choking. See the two World Series and late season collapses at the end of the 06' and 10' seasons.
But still no one compares to the Lions for mind-blowing defeats.
October 14th, 2013 at 12:12 AM ^
the tigers have 4 titles (tied for 9th in mlb history); and 11 WS appearances (tied for 6th). ya, that's very overrated.
October 14th, 2013 at 12:13 AM ^
they are 4th in both of those items for AL teams.
October 13th, 2013 at 11:51 PM ^
Lets not start a flame war between the two teams. We're all on the same sides with those teams.
October 13th, 2013 at 11:56 PM ^
The Lions are known for choking, and the poster was just pointing out a little irony for what unfolded today, that's all.

Crap. We could have broken their backs. What a waste of a great pitching effort from Scherzer.

It's times like these that I wonder how truly serene non-sports fans' lives must be. Because my weekend was just utterly fucked in the ass by sports.

But congratufuckinglations Boston, you won a home game in a playoff series. Seriously. You're down a game on the cards going back to Detroit.
October 14th, 2013 at 12:02 AM ^
I recall the Pistons of the "Going to Work" Era blowing game two to the Lakers with a last shot shot by Kobe and still winning the series. Will the Tigers so the same resiliency or will they collapse like a house of cards during a earthquake?
October 14th, 2013 at 12:14 AM ^
how jacked Comerica would have been with a 2-0 series lead and a Boston team completely screwed in the heads by Tigers starting pitching.
