OT: Alabama will beat Texas A&M by two touchdowns or more. Anyone disagree?

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

Despite playing at home I really can't see A&M winning this game. I think Johnny snuck up on Bama last year, and in fact he did most of his damage in the 1st quarter, with Bama giving up very few opportunities the second half.  Additionaly, A&M lost Luke Joeckel at LT. I, like most human beings, am not a Nick Saban fan, but he is a damn good defensive coach, and if there is one person that can gameplan and defeat Manziel with scheme (plus Bama's talent) it is him. I see that Vegas has Alabama as 8 pt favorites on the road, and I think that's conservative. 31-14 Alabama.

I think that Alabama's gameplan is going to be wear out A&M's defense on long drives. Force enough stops...then play the time of possession game.

I don't think Alabama completely stops Manziel but I don't think A&M's defense can stop Alabama. Manziel has to make some mistakes eventually so I think Alabama wins it but I think it will be a fun watch.

I'm no fan of Manziel but I'm rooting for A&M in this game.  I'm sick of Alabama, sick of the hype machine, sick of Saban getting his ass kissed just for crossing the street, sick of how they can lose home games in November and still go to national title games and sick of the cheating.  You win 3 national titles in 4 years?  You're cheating.  I have no doubt about that.

A&M is who I'm rooting for.

Who do I think will actually win?  Most likely Alabama by 3 touchdowns.  Unfortunately.

Manziel polished his passing game. While Alabama focuses on his scrambling, Manziel will torch them through the air. Two 6'5 wide receivers who run under 4.5, in addition to slot ninjas who run 4.4. That'll be the difference.

It was no fluke.  They could have lined up and played again the same day and A&M still would have won.  You can't attribute it solely to an element of surprise or A&M's quick start; it was anyone's game in the second half, and A&M just flat out-played them when it mattered.

Manziel is putz, but he's a bad matchup for Bama.  He'll get his points.  The game's going to be decided by AJ McCarron and that miserable A&M defense.

First of all, Saban's teams don't do that. If you get beat by his team, it is systematic and complete. It means you just can't stand up to the pounding and competition.

What makes the Crimson Tide a great team, is great athletes who know how to play the Saban way. But then you go up against a guy with moxie who just plays the game, like Harbaugh, like Flutie, they just make plays and will their team to win, and then it doesn't matter how they line up and how one side has better guys. Because their leader believes in himself and his team, and they accept his karma and getting the job done, and he does it. And the mind takes over. And the mind always wins over matter. Always.

If a freshman beat this team in Tuscaloosa, how are they gonna get blown out at home? Ask yourself that? This is college football, not the pros.

Another possible X factor is what could happen if Manziel makes a couple dumb mistakes. Being a cocky jackass is all well and good if you're winning, but we don't know how is behavior is playing in the Aggie locker room. Will the team turn on him if makes some big mistakes? Will Maziel lose his cool if his teammates do likewise? How much control does Sumlin have over this kid? A&M seems at times like a dumpster soaked with gasoline, with someone holding a lit match precariously over it. We already saw against Rice that A&M kind of sucks if Manziel isn't playing.

I think people are giving Alabama way too much on this line.  It should be closer to 4 or 5 in my opinion, which is why I'm backing the Aggies.  On a similar note, the OSU/Cal line is insane imo.  No way OSU wins that  game by 15 or more.

A&M will be better than people think.  I think it's a 10 point game or less and I'm not against A&M winning it.  Not a very ballsy prediction I know but...to at least put something out there I'll say

27 - 21 Alabama

Saban was horrendously outcoached by the entire TAMU staff last year.  Saban's ego will not let that happen again. I don't like his methods, but there is a reason that he is known as a coach who is nearly impossible to beat when he gets extra time to prepare.

Saban has been preparing for this game since the end of last year's upset.  I think Bama wins by at least four TD's.

True, and Saban is outstanding at putting guys into position to make plays.  But he can't make them himself.  Manziel is an great player, and he will present a serious challenge to Bama regardless of the scheme.  Sometimes, better players just beat you, and I don't think this will be a blowout.

Virginia Tech will be the second best defense that Bama faces this year. Plus VT has all summer to prepare and Alabama was breaking in 3 new OL. Alabama also has two weeks to prepare for this game.

Alabama wins by 3 scores IMO.

There seems to be a lot of excitement around the game. I was talking with a fellow passenger (in their Bama shirt) and he expects Saban to be prepared. He thought Manziel's ability to scramble might get them a TD or two but he thinks Bama's defense will contain him enough for their offense to go to work. Dynamite drop-in Monty, I know, but I felt like I needed to report from the trenches.

Alabama only put up 200 yards of offense on VT which is not the same defense it once was. A&M has no defense, but they have a heck of an offense.

Manziel plays terrible and gets rocked by Bama's D but TAMU somehow still wins. Unlikely, I know, but that's what I'm cheering for. If Bama wins then the rest of their schedule sets up way too nicely for a three-peat. On the other hand, if TAMU wins I still think they drop a couple games this year.

winning by 7.5 points. Knowing the odds are that close I would put money on Texas A&M. It's in college station and Kyle Field will be rocking big time. I've got the Aggies wining by 7 or 10 points in a hard fought game. I think Bama gets its first conference loss this season though tomorrow afternoon.

Stop JFF you stop aTm. I can almost guarantee that the moment Saban got home from destroying Notre Dame he started watching film on Manziel and gameplanning for him. Bama by 2 TDs. Saban's record in revenge games is stellar.

But I hope Manziel falls hard this year, starting with Bama steamrolling him.  He can be good next year if he wants.  Or even great.  I have no problems with that.  As long as he flops this year.

Whatever team wins will be considered a sure thing for the championship and whatever team loses will drop only 1 or 2 spots because they clearly could only be beaten by the best team EVAR.

Don't think this is about A&Ms offense or Bama's defense though.  I think Bama grounds and pounds them to control the ball and goes to the air off play action primarily in the second half.  Manziel has limited opportunities..However, 2 TDs is a lot.  I can see Bama having a double digit lead 14-17 points all game, but A&M getting a garbage TD to make it look more respectable.  Bama 31 - A&M 21

Alabama will win, but probably not as much of a blowout as some expect.  VT isn't a world-beater, but they kept up with Alabama offensively; most of the scoring difference is because of a TaINT and some special teams plays.  And Manziel is light-years better at QB than Logan Thomas.  The A&M defense looks weak and will undoubtedly be exploited, but Alabama can be beat during the regular season; a bowl game after months of preparation is totally different.

in the regular season, but I dont see it happening to the same team 2 years in a row.  I think Saban has been prepping for this game as if it were a bowl ever since last year's loss.  He was justifiably worried about Manziel before for that game if I recall correctly (man knows football and probably saw some stuff on tape they didnt have time or personelle to correct on short notice), but he has been scheming for this one for a good 10 months.

The only thing that might spoil The Fighting Texas Aggies' chance is their freaking kicker. Bertolet is terrible under pressure. Especially when it comes to extra points.

These teams are not Michigan, fergodsakes. Why do you people care?

Personally, I only watch Michigan games. No way you'd ever catch me watching an SEC game. Never have, never will.

I want Alabama/Saban to get their comeuppance, but I also want Johnny Foosball to get his.  The only way this turns out well for me is if A&M wins by something like 3-0, with Manziel throwing 6 picks but Alabama failing to capitalize on any of them.

Prognosis: not bloody likely.

To be fair, Manziel was fantastic against them almost all game. It wasn't any fluke. He was a great player last year. If anything is going to prevent A&M from winning it will be their weak defense not Manziel.
