I dunno.....I'll keep with Steve Nebreska...now that guys fastball was unhittable. I still remember that game in the World Series against the Cardinals....81 pitches of dominance and he even hit a homerun in that game.
OT: AL ALBURQUERQUE
By far the best Brendan Frasier movie in existence - even better than Monkeybones.
In all fairness, that movie made Rookie of the Year seem plausible.
Steve Nebraska was okay but I'd take the guy pitching for the Mets, Sidd Finch. Now that guy had a fastball.
Alburquerque has been great. Sometimes has an issue throwing his fastball for a strike but the slider is so unhittable that it almost doesn't matter. Hopefully he can keep this going all year.
I'll take Gil Gamesh. Only man ever to kill someone with his fastball.
Bit of a temper, but hey - it happens.
He has nothing on Bob Aganoosh.
I wonder if ol' Sidd is still meeting with the Maharaja?
I have really enjoyed watching him pitch.
The three innings he threw against the White Sox was some of the best bullpen work I've seen since Zumaya in 06'.
I'm a Rockies fan and I have no idea why we gave him up. Glad to see him doing well for the Tigers though, its a win-win. Austin Jackson is finally getting his hitting stroke back it seems as well *Knock on wood*.
Dr. Orgasm Johnson IV
Al Alberqueque. (see what I did there?)
my parents named me Max Johnson.
Maybe I should change the spelling to Maxxx Johnson?
AA has been lights-out this year, and helped to compensate for the move by Coke to the starting roation and Benoit's inability to get guys out at all recently. I do think they need to get 1-2 more guys into the pen so that they don't wear him down, but he looks legit and has the type of motion that won't kill him in 2-3 years like we've seen with Zumaya (unfortunately).
According to the laws of porn star namedom, (your porn name is your middle name and the name of the street you grew up on (feel free to call me an idiot, but that is common knowlege around West Michigan)) my dad's name would be Chuck Diamond.
And yes, he does have a moustache.
Yea......thats not good for me. I can either be Tyrone Winona....Tyrone Grand Traverse or Tyrone Willard........I guess the last one has chance but the 1st 2 pretty much kill any chance for me.
That's how Mayer Hawthorne got his nick by the way.
Considering how fashionable it is to have a middle name that's your mother's maiden name, and that the whole world has access to Google Maps -- plus the relative internet savviness of your typical porn enthusianst -- and anyone using this porn name convention could be causing some major grief for their parents.
How about dog's name, college address?
Romeo East William
Side note, since this is kind of the unofficial OT Tigers thread tonight: radio guys are making fun of the pathetic Toronto wave right now. Lolz.
Dude, definitely Tyrone Grand Traverse.
If you haven't realized yet, you got caved for your Wings meltdown last night. Your posts only show up on the MGoBlog iPhone Ap. Check it out with your other account if you don't believe me.
Not when you get caved. If that's what you want to believe, that's obviously fine by me. Logout and check for yourself.
and i missed it
Wolverine319 went apeshit in the Wings open thread yesterday, and the mighty hand of the mods caved his posts. He is now posting Sixth Sense style... he's persona non grata, but he doesn't KNOW he's dead. Only app users can see him.
...he's annoying the wonderful people of Bolivia?
Hey, for future reference, the point of caving someone is kinda lost if other posters tell him he's caved. Especially for someone that has already created a second account when the first was negged to Bolivian.
I disagree - I think chatting with someone that cannot be seen is hilarious. Its kind of like our mailroom guy here at work that talks to himself. Although, every time he walks by my office I have an urge to hide under my desk, afraid that he's going to shoot up the place. Come to think of it, talking to one's self is not funny at all . . . .
Lev King George would be mine...
I've always heard it's the name of your first pet + your street.
if middle name, then milton emerald.
if pet, then desiree emerald.
#2 definitely better, but i'm a dude, so.....confused.
Middle name: Lee Delmar
Pet name: Iggy Delmar
Both could work in the industry.
Loreaux Stanford? Or Loreaux Thornapple in that case.
Yeah, French/English or French/Deep South porn?
I've got some winners
Holy shit, that does work.
We always went by first pet's name and street name...I ended up with a spectacular name:
That's funny. Mine would actually sound like a dirty b rate porn name. Wayne Mahony.
So, which State did you graduate from? The Ohio or the Michigan variety?
On the other hand, Perry is awful. AAA for him anyone? He has never looked consistently like a stellar option.
Awful might not be a strong enough word. Horrendous would be plausible. The problem is, who do you have in AAA or even AA that you want to pull out of the rotation to throw into the pen? Furbush, Oliver and Turner are all looking great, but you don't want to throw off their growth as a starter for some temporary bullpen health. Maybe Weinhardt?
Perhaps this is a time where Coke heads back to the pen and one of the kids gets a crack at some spot starts with the big club?
Toronto is hammering lefties this year, so it would be nice to see him get one more chance. If he is still ineffective in that role though, sending him to the pen and calling oliver up would make some sense. Oliver is reaching the point where AAA hitters aren't helping his development, and every pitch he throws is just one more bullet out of the chamber.
If its just Perry getting sent down, with no other moves, weindhardt should be the call. He's already a releiver and he's had some stretches of success in the majors. Short stretches, but still, more than most of the farm hands. Lester Oliveros is a tempting name too, but he needs to show he can carry his success in aa up to aaa before that's a realistic option.
I hear ya. I'm not one of those guys who rags on Coke either. I feel like a lot of people were really iffy on the idea of him as a starter from the get-go and (whether they realize it or not) are rooting against him to succeed because they want to prove their initial inhibitions correct.
I want Coke to do well because the Tigers really need a left-handed starter. Especially when Morneau and Mauer get their act together.
That being said, he has not looked good as of late and the Tigers have some options in their pen and in their system to stay in the race this year.
That strike zone is really small! And sometimes the stitching on the baseball isn't quite all even. It's hard, you know! Seriously!
(I dunno why, but I have little sympathy for Perry and his inability to hit the strike zone at 94 when Zoom was hitting it at 104 consistently).
not throw his slider 62 percent of the time, though.
beat me to it. i listened to a game the other night where i'm pretty sure he threw 9 sliders in a row
Have you ever heard the saying throw it until they hit it?
Marmol has made a living throwing sliders almost 60% of the time. Have you watched him pitch? The slider is keeping hitters off balance, even when they know it's coming.
about keeping hitters off balance and whatnot or that they'll figure it out. It's the concern of throwing so many sliders (a high stress pitch)
Tigers pitching has really stepped it up after the 1st week of the season. Villareal sucks though, Benoit has had a couple shaky relief appearances, and Perry is coming off an injury.
Since Martinez came off of the DL the bats have been hitting better too. This Tigers team is so streaky. Getting swept by Indians and Mariners? C'mon man! Going 3-3 would have been ok!
But I like what Ive seen this past week.
Villarreal has sucked? As a kid in his first year in the big leagues, he has been solid. Both Villarreal and Albuquerque have been pleasant surprises for the bullpen so far. Could you imagine the pen without them right now? More Brad Thomas? Enrique Gonzalez?
Benoit has been shaky, but I'm confident he will come around. Perry looked awful tonight. Schlereth has been inconsistent, but I still think he will pan out to be a serviceable LOOGY.
Baseball is a streaky game. They didn't have the bats against the Mariners and the Indians are playing great right now. They should be better than 18-18. If they can get the bats to be more consistent, they will be competing for the division.
Might be his first season but every time he goes in I expect bad things. i.e. 3 runs vs Toronto or the 2 he gave up vs Cleveland. he started the season off ok but has been in kind of a funk. He not has a 5.79 era, not what you want out of a guy trying to protect a lead.
I agree with Albuquerque but Villarreal...not until I see more of him. As of right now I get nervous when he comes in.
doesn't suck so much as he's just ran into some bad luck. A .359 BABIP is pretty high. He also has allowed a HR/FB rate of 15.9. Considering how fluky HR rates are, that is probably an annomoly. His FIP and especially his xFIP both suggest he's going to be just fine.
not even close to the worst starter in MLB. Not even remotely close.
