Michigan State's mascot was based off of the cast from In The Heat Of The Night, which took place in the fictionalized town of Sparta, MS.  The show ran on NBC from 1988 to 1992.  Four years is about how long Dantonio's run is going to last as well.  With MSU returning to the middle of the pack in the B1G , things are finally returning to normal around here.

If you want to see wolverines up close, the Thompson Park Zoo in Watertown, NY is a great place. They have two, a male and a female. Best time to see them is in the morning (10 am when the zoo opens) in cold weather. They are pretty awesome. My daughter and I have spent a lot of time watching them play fight, climb, swim, dig, eat, and lope-run. Also, when I say see them up close, I mean it. At various points around the enclosure, you can reach through the chain link fence and touch them if they're there (and they will come up to see you fairly often), though of course you should not. Please don't do that. I can't believe the zoo can get away with having such an up-close encounter, actually, but I guess it's a small town thing.

"If wolverines have a strategy, it is go hard and high and steep and never back down, not even from a grizzly and least of all from a mountain.  Climb everything - trees, cliffs, avalanche chutes, summits.  Eat everybody - alive, dead, long dead; a still warm heart or frozen bones.  I will never really know what it's like to be one of these hunter-scavengers, but I've learned a little more about courage and a lot more about what 'wild' means just from being on the wolverine's trail."

- Doug Chadwick, wolverine researcher

Thanks for sharing!  My parents saw two this past summer in Glacier Nat'l Park.  I've just missed seeing one out there the past few springs.
