Hooray for our eyes
Well, they are the Bears aren't they?
Half man, half bear, half pig.
I told you it was real!
they change the name of the school to Sic Em University. Problem solved.
At least this time it was stopped before it began. I mean, as I recall, last year Baylor actually did wear the jerseys which were OSHA-friendly and would have allowed them to play hoops in the municipal right-of-way.
I will say, at least USC didn't adopt this - can't imagine anything but chuckles if someone came onto the court with something that read, "Sic 'Em Trojans".
I actually thought you were going to go with the other USC for your example...
- actually saw this on a shirt when I lived in SC.
I lived in South Carolina for a few years. "Cocks Soccer" hats were very popular.
that used to be in North Pier in Chicago, had a window facing the steet (Illinois) with a display consisting of exactly three baseball caps:
South Carolina----USC----Oregon State
...with the team names, of course!
Saw one that said "your Trojans can't cover our Cocks"
Thank God Hollis isn't the AD at Southern Cal or South Carolina.
And good taste prevails.
common sense---everyone knows you can't train a bear to "sic 'em! ".
Dude; this. It never made any sense to me AT ALL. It'd be one thing if they were the Baylor Pit Bulls... The rule should be that the phrase on the front of the jersey at least has to make a sensical reference to your mascot.
We would not be allowed to put "go blue" on the front either. they'll probably just remake the same uni without "sic em'.
Why shouldn't we be allowed to if Dave Brandon wanted to? It's a silly prohibition that hurts no one.
I didn't say we shouldn't be able to. It's just their rule. On the other hand, however, what if South Carolina decided they wanted to put "you can't beat" on the chest above the number, then "cocks" below the number. It's a lot easier to just say none of it is allowed than try to regulate what is and isn't ok...talk about room for arbitrary rulings. (not that that has stopped the NCAA before)
If Brandon wanted to have a mascot at the stadium on game days, what would your reaction be?
Probably just replace the 'Sic 'Em' with Baylor and be fine.
I can't believe we are going to be robbed of the experience of watching these uni's in action.
"[sic] 'em bears"
would that be ok?
Adidas did itself proud by trying to introduce these clowniforms. More pub = more $$ for them.
I'm not sure you're interpreting that correctly.
Now if they could only come down on the psychedelic forest that is Oregon's home court.
The only reason I knew oregons court looked like trees was because of the arial view.
Otherwise it looks like they used different color wood...it's bad.
Some school is going to totally change the color of their court...like Boise or orchard lake in football.
Go figure, I'm watching them now.
That's actually not too bad.
I actually like that. It works because it's not an obnoxiously bright color like Eastern Washington's football field.
I was watching the UM v Indiana gamne and they kept going to the oregon game for highlights and everytime they would I honestly thought there was something wrong with my TV. I was like "WTF is going on with this tv" and then it would switch back to the UM game and everything was fine so I was all "Whew, what was that all about". Then it would do it again. It took about three four times before I realised it was actually their court. I was in shock that someone thought that would be a good idea.
What's worse: the '92 basketball team warmups...or...the Indiana basketball overalls they always wear?
Go blue, but what were we thinking? I know we were only a few years removed from the fashion my horrible 80's...but these things looked like arrows pointing to hell.
IU's basketball warmups are to them what the winged helmets are to us. They are usually very well liked so I'm going to go with not those.
Except our helmets are actually cool.
has gotten right in a looooong time
Better than the Notre dame staee uniforms good ole Nike rolled out.
They wore jerseys that had fighting ducks on front of jersey in game vs Oregon St. How is that different from sic 'me bears?
Is the duck, so it's allowed. If Baylor was the "sic 'ems" then it would be ok.
...that a company that shells out millions of dollars marketing college athletics via apparel would know the rules about what they can and can't put on said apparel. This incident is the best argument yet as to why we should drop adidas. Of course, that pales in comparison to the argument for keeping adidas:
Why wouldn't Adidas make sure they could actually put "Sic Em' on a jersey BEFORE they made them?
Maybe this way the jerseys get extra street cred - "banned by the NCAA." Only OUTLAWZ would wear them.
Interesting that Adidas thought 'Go Blue' should be on the inside collar for Michigan, but 'Sic' Em' should be emblazoned on the front of the jersey for Baylor. Maybe Baylor officials had more to do with this than Adidas.
...some sanity in the world of college uniforms.
I used to think that the NFL was a bit boring fro being such uniform nazis but given the recent absurdities polluting the college landscape, I'm now forced to admit that I quite like the NFL's uniform policy.
