OT: AA Student Housing

Submitted by Shaqsquatch on
So, shameless self plug, but I just got into grad school, which means I get the great fortune to spend at least two more years at Michigan. However, the house I've lived in for the last 3 years filled up while I was waiting on acceptance letters, so for my first time since the dorms I have to go house/apartment hunting. Anyone have any recommendations for places to live (especially near the Hill Area, grad school is the SPH)?

Students change their living situations all the time, and there's often rooms available posted on craigslist or other websites where kids just want to fill up their house + another person to help pay utilities. You can also call realty companies like Campus Realty or CMB, they'll give you info on what they have available. Definitely not too late to find decent housing.

I lived on East U just south of hill, amazing area for Sr. Year, but not a grad area... I'd recommend Investor's Property Management though, our landlord, they we're good

If you rent from anywhere/anyone, make sure their lease isn't written by Zaki at Michigan Rental. My roomates and I got screwed royally from him. He's a horrible moronic man.

SPH is good times. Try to make friends in every department, as it is all too easy to become siloed if you don't reach out. Grad school is all about networking. Enjoy! I was on Elm for a year, during my SPH tenure. That's really nice, just a 5 minute walk every day. Either that or the Ingalls/Catherine area are your best bet. Some apartments around Fuller Street are in good proximity, as well

I've got a condo in Saline I'll be renting out soon. Just a 2 bedroom/1 bath but there's a finished basement with a washer/dryer and a fenced sideyard if you've got/want a dog. 15 minutes to West Quad parking.
