OT: The 68 "Coolest" People to Attend the Tournament Schools

Submitted by nmumike on

SI created a list of the coolest people ever to attend the 68 schools in this years tournament. Some interesting people on the list for sure. Who knew that Bob Gibson HOF pitcher for the Cardinals played basketball at Creighton, or the Big Show from WWE fame played basketball at Wichita State?

Anyways it has Madonna as our "coolest" but I think that is very debatable.

Who do you think is the coolest person to attend, not necessarily graduate from Michigan is?

My choice has to be James Earl Jones or Gilda Radner outside of athletes that played here.

Branch Rickey would have been a good choice.  Helping to break the color barrier is pretty cool, unless your idea of cool involves cone shaped undergarments and fake accents.

I knew SEC basketball was terrible, but that map really drives the point home.  Zero teams from the states of Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina made the tournament, and almost as many teams made the tournament from the state of New Mexico (2) as the entire SEC (3).

Working on the 96 seed Bracket of the "Coolest Michigan alumnus/alumna" broken into four regions, Sporting, Politics/Commerce, Arts, and Science and Technology.

Why 96?  Because I got to 64 and there were too many cool people to leave out.  Cool being defined in my mind as "person whom you have the least shame reminding people went to Michigan", which is the essence of alumni bragging.

Oh and Moses Fleetwood Walker is on the list.

Honestly, half the people on that list are "cool" in that they are involved in music or sports.  What qualifies as cool seems to have a pretty narrow definition.

Definitely some of the coolest Northwestern alums would include Cindy Crawford, Warren Beatty, Chuck Heston, but probably Cindy Crawford is the all around coolest.

What? Northwestern didn't make the tournament this year? Huh...

I nominate a three time Super Bowl winning quarterback who lives on the cover of GQ and is married to one of the world's most beautiful women. Has he changed the world like some of the others mentioned in the thread? No. But for pure cool, it has to be Tom Brady.

As a Colorado alumn, I have to bitch about our choice too.  Christopher Meloni is OK, I guess, but I can't believe there's a person alive who thinks he cooler than Robert Redford (or a host of others).
