OT - 5 Star DT Eddie Vanderdoes Not Going to ND
He will take his talents to UCLA instead. This was a weird recruitment overall. Initial commitment was to USC, then De-Commit and surprisingly picked ND over UCLA and Alabama. Now this.

Vanderdoes has enough time to change his mind at least three or four more times by NSD.
He's a 2013 kid, who signed with ND and now has broken the contract with ND to play at UCLA. Will have to sit out next year and only eligable for 3 more years.

A lot of ND kids signed a LOI to play for Charlie Weis. Did ND "protect the integrity of that very important program" when they thought it was in their interest to make a change?
Thats why you sign to the school, not the coach.

It's a transfer for all intents and purposes, so his spot will be an open scholarship once it's done.

UCLA chicks are wayyyyy hotter than ND chicks. It would be a no brainer for me.
If in fact, chicks were the issue, then you are dead-on right there. Pasodena and surrounding area has it going on. ND has some very hot girls, but they are few and far between in comparison.
What about Pasudena?

You lose players here and there, it happens. Any large group of people will contain those who dislike the current arrangement of the group and opt to strike out on their own. However at some point when you have this much top talent jilting you on NSD, leaving after a year, or not showing in the Fall, you have to question the coaching staff there.
Although I suppose Kelly bought himself a few more years when he traded on ND's name to win the honor of being Alabama's chew toy for four quarters.
Im surpised some of these players make it thru school. I went to Kent State and the players who didnt play got hot chicks. Imagine if you were a star at USC/Texas/SEC school, i think it would fall off by graduation lol.
From what I have read, he was more of a Notre Dame lean than OSU but, either way, AWESOME.
I agree with ND not releasing him. But it seems like something else is up, otherwise why sign the loi in february only to want out a few months later.
It is good for nd not to let him out of his loi instead sending out the message to all recruits that the school they sign with can do this. Basically, sign with the school you want to play for and make sure you know before you sign.
You have to sit out a year to transfer to another FBS school like UCLA, so there already is enough of a deterrent.

So.. A 5 star recruit saunters up to the M table and says I am going to take this chair. Puts his name on the chair. The table is now full, there is no room for someone who, you know, really wants to be at the table. Then he gets up and leaves and leaves you one chair short of a full table. A chair you could have used to on someone else.
I don't see the dickness factor here. I am not sure what you mean by "treating players once they are locked up". EV signed a LETTER OF INTENT to play football in exchange for an education at ND. And now, apparently, after all these months its coming out that the intern who flubbed the LOI list on signing day by including EV's name (he was to announce later) its ok to just let the kid go? I am absolutely 100% positive that UM would do the same.
So... how binding is that letter of intent on the school?
It is absolutely hilarious to me that this guy would rather lose an entire year of playing time than play for Notre Dame. It would be one thing if the kid could just count that first season as a redshirt year and get four years of potential playing time afterward... but no... he only gets three years to play.
4 years to play 3 years of eligibility.
...compiled a list of the 4 & 5 star recruits who have left or decommitted from ND in the last 2 years? It has to be an unusually high number.
