Lions have been playing a lot better than this, but the questionable OPI's hurt us and our own players make stupid mistakes. There's playing with a chip on your shoulder and then there's playing stupid
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
Well we can kiss the Wild Card goodbye
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
No. Not yet. Chicago, ATL and the Giants all lost and are also all 7-5. We could have grabbed the Wild Card by the throat, but we're not dead yet. And we've got Oakland and the Vikings yet, too. Those can easily be had. Even by this spectale of a football team.
Well yeah, but Oakland is a hit-or-miss team that could beat us in a game of "Who can commit more stupid penalties" and I'm not relishing going to Lambeau to play a potential 15-0 Packers team looking to make history
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
I be like dang. Lions be like the lions.
This just isn't a playoff team.
I'm not even a lions fan, but this is pretty ridiculous... Lions have been called for 4-5 penalties that were marginal at BEST, while NO got away with the same plays. Have the lions committed some stupid, ridiculous penalties? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that the calls have been unbalanced. The tally is currently 11-3 when it should be more like 7-5(6). Take into account when those missing calls should have been (FG attempt, etc.) and it writes a diff story.
That said, I do think the Saints deserved the win more. I just feel like they were provided an easier path to it than they deserved.
i want to slap nate burleson in the fucking face
Lions were making a game of it early in the 4th. But since that loss to the Rams the Saints have been playing at such a high level.
Michigan Solar Car - National Champions: '90, '93, '01, '05, '08, '10
Two national TV appearances over two weeks. Both embarrassing with stupid penalties. This team can be competitive with anyone, but the ill-timed penalties need to end. 10 wins is a guaranteed wild card. We'll have to scrape and claw for each win and not push referees.
I should be used to this shit. I find myself continually amazed that I am not. I must say it's a lot more fun watching the Lions lose if it doesn't mean anything when they do.

A lot of those penalties were dumb, no question, but they haven't called ANYTHING our way. A bunch of those push-offs called on Burleson were absolute garbage. Recievers and corners bump all the time, and only one of those was the contact even CLOSE to waranting a call. They've been holding VadenBosch ALL night.
Not like the Saints haven't been taking their shots tonight either, they just aren't calling ANY of them. When crap like that happens, you get frustrated, and that breeds more penalties.
These announces are absolutely unbearable, too. They're been giving the Saints a 3-hour blow job and taking every shot at the Lions that they possibly can. I don't care how much Backus's age is showing, he doesn't deserve to be called out for being the losingest player in the NFL like it's all his fault. That's despicable.
This is like playing in the early 2000's again, losing 10 games by a touchdown or less and losing a good half of them on getting a screw job. Can't remember the exact game, but I'll never forget watching us throw it deep on the last drive. Their safety had both hands around the reciever's neck pulling him, and the ball just barely slips off his finger tips. No call. That embodies this franchise more than any play I've ever seen. Absolutely no breaks, all the futility, etc. I'm tired of it and I really hope this team finally becomes the one that gets tired of it to. It still looks bad now, but there's reason to hope for the first time since Barry. Starting 5-0 just makes it hard to remember that, methinks.

And that announcing is going to just going to add to the national vibe that the Lions are wild untamed reckless idiots.
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
And it's absurb. They don't mention any of the uncalled elbows they're throwing at us, any of the late hits on Stafford, none of it. I don't blame the guys for being pissed. How would you feel if you've got guys like Jenkins taking cheap shots at you, but the moment you even so much as look back at him the wrong way you've got a flag in your face?
I'm beginning to really wonder if the league does this on purpose. This is the story of this entire team, and games like this are why it stays that way. You could load the Lions up with the Pro Bowl's first team and I'll bet they'd STILL find a way to get screwed.

the Lions were embarassing. This is why they don't get Monday night games very often. No playoffs this year and we'll need a new Oline and probably draft defense again.
We need two Olineman and another back and a corner and a safety and a kicker and a punter. Jeebus this team always has so many holes.

Hanson is still a great kicker. Nobody makes EVERY 55-yarder, and the block was a missed offsides.
Our best corner, two punters, three running backs, and I believe also a safety are injured. Can't do much about that. O-Line we definitely need though.

I think it's easier to say what we have, rather than what we need. We have a QB, receivers, a defensive line, and a kicker that we can get another year out of. And that's it. Again, Hansen missed a 55-yarder, and had one blocked by a guy who was about 3 feet offside, although no one likes to talk about that part. Apparently Usain Bolt was on the edge of the Saints' line on that play.
Everywhere else there's holes, and big ones at that.
You can't blame Hanson for his rough outing, the guy was offsides on the blocked kick and he missed from 55 yards out. Second Ryan Donahue went on IR, so we're set there next year

Madonna will be doing the halftime show of the Super Bowl, could they get any more irrelevant? How about having a Notre Dame highlights show of returning to glory.

he's just getting old. We need a shutdown corner and we've got to get rid of Backus and Cherilus. The Lions haven't had a good OLine in my 47 years. Barry made some look good, but he also had more carries for loss than any player in history.

Age is not nearly as relevant with kickers. Morton Andersen kicked until he was at least 45. And keep in mind, Hanson was over 90% this season before tonight. If there were sure signs of slippage, I would agree with you. But not yet. I think we're good for at least another year.
Penalties and fumbles are one thing. However, his biggest transgression is his mouth. I'm convinced that his attitude and trash talk are a big reason the Lions are so undisciplined. They just don't need his type of leadership on or off the field.

I have never seen this many OPI's before on one team let alone one player
