OT- 420 (Come on, you knew it was coming)
Since were in a bit of a dead period how many MGoTokers do we have out there? As you all may know tomorrow is 4/20. A day to celebrate the best plant/ medicine God has planted on this green earth.
Besides the usual recreational smoking, how are you going to go about your day? Anyone going anywhere or doing anything special?
Feel free to discuss. Stories are always welcome.

I graduated in 1981. Back in those days possession of less than 2 ounces of pot was little more than a parking fine and seldom (if ever) enforced. I used to work as a bouncer at the Village Bell and when a patron lit up a joint all we did was ask them to take it outside. The funny thing is that if cops were around when they went out they would simply ask them to take it back inside. Nobody told anybody to put it out.

The only people that still find it taboo seem to be those that don't understand it. Nothing more relaxing than putting on a good show or album and lighting up.
The worst consequence I've ever had is forgetting what I was doing mid-task. Perception is the issue and that's changing rapidly.
Honestly, to each his own, but the holier-than-thou posts only make you look like a pompous ass. Not everyone likes weed, we all know this. But making a post about how you're above those pot smokers on the board and how you have kids so you don't drink or smoke is nothing more than your prerogative. If you don't like weed, don't post on the weed thread, simple.
My dad kept alcohol in the house. Him and my mom sometimes drank it around me. I don't think I started drinking any sooner than anyone else I knew.
I am also a dad. I don't intend to smoke weed around my son, but I also don't feel the need to use that as a reason to poo-poo the weed thread.
That's exactly what my parents did with alcohol. If they wanted to drink they'd drink, they didn't make it out to be some big deal, and that made me less tempted to drink because it wasn't some special thing that was being kept away from me. While there are always those who will want to get absolutely wasted, it seems like some underage drinkers just try to consume as much as possible because it's not accessible to them otherwise. IIRC, many countries with lower drinking ages have much fewer issues with DUI's, public intoxication, etc. However, that could be chalked up to a lot of other reasons though. I just picture binge drinking being more common in areas where alcohol consumption is more controlled.
My friend wrote a paper about the differences between us and Europe when it comes to the drinking age, would like to see it changed myself.
I long ago decided not to let other peoples' nonfalsifiable, uncritical prejudices (which is really the substance of the "holier than thou" mentality) have any influence, much less determinative impact, on my choices/reflections/experiences.

Good post Wolv. I agree completely, and I just can't stand the soap-box attitude of some people. Nothing wrong with smoking a little weed as long as it doesn't dictate the way you live. Alcohol is much, much worse.

Holy shit. Some of you should smoke up quick and relax. I didn't say there was anything wrong with you smoking and I'm not trying to be holier than thou. The fact is, I don't smoke. The company I work for drug tests. My kids are trying to go to college and play sports which involves drug testing. They drive around on the weekends and I don't want them driving stoned and I want them to have their wits about them to avoid people who ARE high.
Change my avatar? Why, will my kids get a contact buzz from seeing it?
It's the whole "I'm in my 40's, so it's taboo to me" spiel. And driving while "high" doesn't impare you nearly as much as drinking and driving. This has been tested, and proven.

In contrast, my mother is 51 and was absolutely SHOCKED to find out that I had never tried pot. She doesn't smoke now, but did in her youth, and apparently she "just assumed [I'd] tried it". It also has been demonstrated to have several valuable medicinal properties (aside from the analgesic properties that justify its use as "medical marijuana") and is being explored more and more (med student). It is also most definitely safer than alcohol, considering you can actually DIE from alcohol withdrawal if you're enough of an addict. There's actually no physiological withdrawal (therefore, addiction) associated with marijuana in normally consumed quantities. The only potential for addiction is psychological, which is basically not the case for any other recreational drug/nicotine/alcohol. The medicinal uses of cocoa, however, are unknown to me.
I applaud you for attempting to set a good example for your kids. I don't do pot, and I wouldn't want my kids to do it either. Frankly, I don't really get the appeal. But if it was between pot and cigarettes, I'd rather they choose pot.

Hilarious. I'm a part-time blower of tree's these days...don't know if I'll partake tomorrow but if I'm around any I most certainly will take a puff or two...here's to hoping someday they will legalize that shit for real.

brother used to keep the tradition going. AFAIK the 4:20 came from some high schoolers in San Fransisco area that all met up after school at 4:20.
In the late 60s and early 70s, I remember a lot of long haired hippies coming to our house at 4:20pm because we had a detatched garage and my brother installed an exhaust fan. As soon as someone heard the back door open, there was enough time to pull the smoke out. They would start their mini-bikes (2 cycle) to help.
It wasnt until later that my brother told me he was one of the biggest pot dealers in school. Quite a businessman.
Not anti-weed, but I am anti 420. Seems counterintuitive to me for stoners to have an organized, structured day to smoke. Why take a daily routine and make a day to celebrate out of it? How about a day where I do nothing but play basketball? Or maybe I could set aside a day every year to shower excessively? Neg away because you smoke, not like I'm going to lose any points.

How productive are you when you're high? I'm just saying that the 420 community isn't really a "by-the-book" group. That and I get really sick of hearing about it. I hate other stuff like this too, Talk Like a Pirate Day is up there, so is Valentine's Day, there's no true significance to it.
That is a valid point. Some people are more productive than others, it depends. I can't do anything of value when I'm high. I'm not really a "let's get high and go do something" kind of guy. I'm more of a "I have nothing to do tonight, let's get high, sit in my living room and listen to Nas-Illmatic on repeat while we eat Junior mints by the box" kind of guy.
That's the way my friends are, they smoke then we order a pizza and chill all night and I get a good laugh out of the ridiculous things they think of.
I'm like your friends - totally useless but having a good time when I'm high. But everybody is different. My roommate freshman year was probably more productive when high than me when sober.

You're complaining about a day dedicated to weed to people who went to a school that invented a (different) day dedicated to weed. Had to expect a little backlash from some.
I did expect backlash, doesn't mean I can't still disagree. To tell me not to go on a pro-weed thread with negativity would be like telling somebody who doesn't like an OT thread about the NBA to stay off. This site is decidedly anti-NBA, but that doesn't stop anybody from expressing their opinion.

Its 420 everyday for people out here, not any different than having a few beers after work in the midwest though.

I bought one of these for the occasion.
This reminds me of a conversation I had in college during a UM-OSU game. Someone we were with said, "That buckeye leaf looks so dumb, it almost looks like a pot leaf. Why would you want a pot leaf sticker on your helmet?"
The rest of us stopped for a second to think about it, and we all came to the conclusion that it was actually really cool to have pot leaf stickers on your helmet.

I really want to agree that it's cool, but I've hated Ohio State and pretty much everything about it, especially those ugly bass boat paintjob helmets. DAMN YOU WOLV!
This craigslist still cracks me up every time.
I lived in a house with 8 other guys (was not a frat house) and they all smoked the smelly green leaf and grew it! But, I was the only one that didnt smoke, because I simply didn't like it. Their were many times we would all sit in the front room doing whatever and they would all be smoking and I would help pass it around and not once was I ever pressured into smoking the bowl, bong, joint, blunt. They were all pretty good roommates.
Smoke on and enjoy your 420!
