OT - 247 list 5 Power Programs that are losing their appeal. Can you say DISRESPEKT
I know this is just some brief notes, but I found this article on 247 on 5 programs they believe are in decline (or in position of decline).
OLE MISS is number 1 for obvious reasons, but our favorite D'Anotine is getting more and more pubicity highlighting the change in program direction for SPARTY
Oh, and I am loving every single second of it. Every article, every media blurb, every post.

Of the 120 or so D1 FBS teams, I would rank the MSU HC job somewhere between 35 and 70...
February 24th, 2017 at 3:04 PM ^
Really? I'd say between 23-32.
February 24th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
So if I were to compare the MSU head job against its comparable in other conferences:
- NC state in the ACC
- Arkansas in the SEC
- Oklahoma State in the Big 12
- Arizona State in the Pac 12
MSU's problem is they're never going to get out from under the shadow of others in their conference, just like those I list above are kinda-sorta national programs ... but not really.

I'd say Auburn might be a better example. Auburn's has a recent NC, but they are similiar to MSU in that Auburn is the little brother in the state of Alabama to the Crimson Tide.
February 24th, 2017 at 8:27 PM ^
Auburn has a better history than MSU. I could see Oklahoma State.
February 24th, 2017 at 3:35 PM ^
Between 35 and 70 sounds right, as long as you consider they are tied with 5 others.

I agree with, but don't hold your breath on it actually stopping any time soon. People around here love to feel included and as long as it contiues to get upvotes, it will keep happening. I give it 3 to 9 more months of constant use.

Baylor should be somewhere on this list.
...for obvious reasons.
February 24th, 2017 at 2:32 PM ^
Baylor has no appeal left that it can lose. This list implies that there is something left to be salvaged with the respective programs.
Baylor does not have that.
February 24th, 2017 at 4:44 PM ^
Very true.
I agree, however, if there's one thing I've learned - it's that just when you think Baylor is all Baylored out...Baylor will Baylor again.

Stay tuned.

thinking there was going to be a bit more roasting of MSU. It's actually just a pretty well thought out opinion. It would be a tough division to play in, and Staeeee is outspent by their counterparts. Of course he could play the disrespekt card, but this is hardly bulletin board material IMO.
February 24th, 2017 at 2:33 PM ^
I'm not biased, but I never saw any appeal of MSU.
The Degree? Trash.
The Campus? Trash (and way too fuckin big).
The Stadium? A giant Trash receptical.
The Program? Decades and decades of history being Trash.
I guess MSU could do well among hipster recruits that are actively trying to have shitty things. Then again, hipsters generally aren't the football-playing types.
February 24th, 2017 at 2:36 PM ^
Most of their fans? Trash.
February 24th, 2017 at 5:45 PM ^
Their fans are SUPER Trash. If you're in Michigan and start talking to someone you can almost tell that they're a Spartan even before anything related to sports or colleges comes up.
February 24th, 2017 at 10:50 PM ^
and I've said this for years, but all one has to do is just watch a MSU basketball game and when they show a camera shot of the Izzone, and one can right away tell that most of people in it are Trash.
February 25th, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
Their fans are dirty brown water trash.

February 24th, 2017 at 3:37 PM ^
Most of them didn't even bother to try other schools.
February 24th, 2017 at 4:15 PM ^
Naw. They all totally got offers from other schools but CHOSE to go to state. Every single person from the students to athletes at MSU most definitely had other options, but MSU was right for them and they will happily inform you of this any time it's brought up.
February 24th, 2017 at 4:53 PM ^
State is quite a bit tougher academically than it used to be and in part because UM is so damn hard to get into and seems to take a lot of out of state students. I have quite a few friends who are fellow MICHIGAN ALUMNI and whose kids are now very possibly looking at State, but who have grades/scores on par with the parents' scores 25yrs ago. For metro Detroit recruits/athletes, I think State still has appeal.
Unfortunately for them now, Harbaugh, mainly. And that's the point of the piece.
February 24th, 2017 at 6:11 PM ^
Many of the fans and the athletic department have a LOT of trashy aspects. The campus is not to my taste, but the stretch along the Red Cedar isn't bad at all.
But where I get sideways with this is calling MSU degrees trash. Apart from some disciplines (I'm looking at you, Communications), their degrees are not trash. It's a good school with some top shelf programs.
It's not Michigan for academics, but it isn't trash. Not by a long shot.
February 24th, 2017 at 8:20 PM ^
A lot of trash talking going on here.
February 24th, 2017 at 2:38 PM ^
The last time they won NINE games was 2008. Since then, they've had a few seasons with 8 wins, that's it. The rest of them have been below .500. They aren't "in position of decline," they are already really bad.
If you are going to include them, you better go ahead and just throw any other medicore to crap program into that list.
February 24th, 2017 at 4:39 PM ^
The article isn't about the appeal or quality of a program. It is about the desirability of coaching that program. Their point about the Cal job potentially being less desirable next year seems correct based on their reasoning (firing their coach despite performing okay for Cal).
February 24th, 2017 at 4:44 PM ^
Is relatively silly. I can dig up plenty of power programs that have been average and aren't "destination jobs."
February 24th, 2017 at 5:37 PM ^
is still valid. Based upon who Cal has hired over the last 20-25 (if not even longer) there has been very little appeal to this job for a long, long time. Sure it's appeal might go down, but the appeal isn't/hasn't been very high anyway.

I click on every msu threat just to upvote the 3-9 jokes. Still gets me every time. Someone needs to make a meme of Tyrone Biggums doing a "yall got any more of them 3-9 jokes" for me

Hahaha this is great. Its the simple things guys. Like your fuckboy little brothers winning a game on a miracle, talking shit for a year, then their program implodes :D. Happy friday to all!
February 24th, 2017 at 3:47 PM ^
I bet you could come up with at least 23 to 32 different jokes about msu...
February 24th, 2017 at 8:24 PM ^
MSU is not a threat at 3-9. :)
February 24th, 2017 at 2:44 PM ^
Man, this is really disrespektful.
February 24th, 2017 at 8:33 PM ^
Yes it is. You can sure bet Mork Datornio will have chips on her shoulders!
February 24th, 2017 at 2:48 PM ^
Didnt realize Mizzou and Cal were big time jobs.
February 24th, 2017 at 5:41 PM ^
While not a big time job, Pinkel actually had them at a pretty good place. From 2007 -2014 they won double digit games 5 times, and played in 4 conference title games, 2 in the Big 12 and 2 in the SEC.
February 24th, 2017 at 2:48 PM ^
It's great to see MSU back in its place, but finally getting national attention and then shitting the bed like they did in 2016 is way more satisfying than laughing at them in the media.
Don't give them anymore chips on the shoulder, but instead more pride before their fall (again).

You mentioned who was number one, but I'm curious who is ranked 3-9.
