OT: 2014 NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium officially a sellout...with tickets still available

Submitted by MichiganPhotoRod on

Only single seat tickets remain.  From the article, "Officials expect the attendance to exceed 105,000."

The announced attendance for Big Chill at the Big House was 113,411.  However, due to electronic scanner failures at the entrance gates, as explained at the time, several thousand tickets weren't scanned.  Guinness' official number of 104,173 only counted tickets that were scanned.

And for those in the community who are bean counters and/or enjoy reading about the amount of revenue the U-M Athletic Department takes in -- and sources of the revenue – I give you this little nugget…

The NHL is renting Michigan Stadium on Jan. 1, 2014, for $3.1 million. Athletics will incur $600,000 in expenses associated with hosting the game.

From the article:  "The game is officially a sellout; however, there are several thousand single tickets still available."

Well, as long as it's a sellout.

There are some extras attached to this game per this article. In addition to the temporary lifting on the ban on selling alcoholic beverages inside the stadium, there will also be fireworks at this game as there were at the Big Chill in 2010.

What's with this block party in downtown Ann Arbor and puck dropping at midnight?  Sounds like it might be a cool event downtown to bring in the New Year.
