I hate that they keep fucking with their unis for The Game.  Show it some respect.  Of course, maybe if we would win one more than once a decade, they would.

BTW, the alt. uni that i would like to see is for each team to wear their home unis in The Game, the way they did until the early 60's.  That would actually be an authentic throwback.  And it would look awesome . .  Michgian's and Ohio State's home uni colors are a good compliment to each other.

I agree with this. I'm not a huge fan of the alternates and prefer the arcahic traditional uniforms to this. Ohio State in a way has become too commercial wearing alternative uniforms to show off the newest style Nike has created. Once a year is enough. Stick with tradition and the appeal of the regular white uniforms, not this garbage.  BTW any chance you can post a pic of the old uniforms in the 60's you're referencing of both teams? TIA.

it's almost impossible to find this information with a simple google search. White jerseys were instituted by the NCAA in the 1950's to facilitate viewing on monochrome (ie, "black-and-white") TVs of that era, even though the NCAA's first invasion of the television world was to ban broadcasts of games by Notre Dame and Penn in 1950. By about 1952, the NCAA had settled on the one-national-game-a-week plus regional broadcasts that more or less were the rule until the NCAA was successfully sued by Oklahoma and U of Georgia in 1981. The white road jerseys were instituted sometime around the beginning of NCAA football broadcasting ca. 1952, although I can't find any explicit discussion of this on-line; I remember it was in the CTE story a couple of years back, I think in the New Yorker. I can't find that online either. According to a hit for "Dawgsports," the white jersey rule was lifted sometime around 2009. You can see home unis on both teams in both the snow-bowl OSU game of 1950 and in the excerpts of the UM-USC Rose Bowl of 1948 posted to YouTube by WolverineHistorian. If the white-jersey rule has in fact been lifted, the Game would have been the perfect place to restore some real throwback action. Unfortunately, the MBA's are in charge with gimmick uniformz the new "tradition."

The '52 game was blue vs. red; in the '58 game M wore white. I've always assumed this was because of television--if you're old enough to remember B&W TV you'll understand why.

The white jersey rule hasn't been entirely lifted, but in 2008 USC and UCLA both showed up in dark jerseys. USC was charged with a timeout for wearing illegal shirts; UCLA immediately burned a timeout to even things up, and the game went on. The next year a rule was made that you can apply to your conference for an exemption for a particular game and the conference is supposed to ensure jersey contrast.

I got into a fight with someone in 9th grade (well, I was defending myself from upperclassmen) and I asked one of them if he got his hat from the Dollar store reject bin because it was black with a red "o", and black is not one of their colors.  As they were flushing my Block M fitted hat down the toilet, they politely explained how black is apparently part of the official color scheme.

Fun people. Great times.

I'm so tired of so many people saying, "Well in this year, the Buckeyes were ranked this, we sucked, and still beat them." Like the guy above me said, "This ain't 1993" or whatever year someone else is referring to. Whether we like it or not, Ohio is an elite, top-five program and we can't just go into the game anymore saying, "We're Michigan and will win." Our team is still at least a couple of years away from being good. Right now, they're just average, which pains me to say because I love this team more than any other from any other sport. The Buckeyes are going to annihilate Michigan. Early prediction is 38-13.
